Graham is a genius, and his characters are brilliantly portrayed, the song about the foot pump is so silly and hilarious, iv watched it over and over and I laugh as much each time. Brilliant 😊❤
This should have been invested in to have been on the telly. I love his work, his vision, his warm comedy. I also appreciate the whole home made style and study on seemingly insignificant things. Its comforting! They missed out big time with John Shuttleworth and probably misunderstood an entire audience. That North South divide or just short sightedness?
I had no idea this existed!!! Excellent!! This guy's observations are so clever. It is a shame he is so obscure. I suppose the humour is a little too subtle for most.
'Suburbia awakes' sums up Britain on a summer afternoon... I reminds me of my childhood. Laid on my bed in the school holidays, listening to the street outside....
John reminds me of my Father, he was born in Berwick Upon Tweed, north part of England on the border of Scotland, my mothers name was Mary; when ever john calls out to Mary it is exactly house my father sounded (takes me back to the 60s) when ever my father and mother would disagree, my father would say to her 'Mary!! go comb your hair!!' How Graham created this character of John is supernatural.
I think it works better when you cant see Ken or Mary. Its still interesting to see what Ken is supposed to look like though. Its a bit weird seeing him in the flesh after just imagining him for all these years.
What a find! After all these years, I wasn't even aware there was a tv pilot. When I think of the rubbish that got the green light - how was this not commissioned? It is truly freaky after all these years to see Ken in the flesh. He's not a million miles from what I imagined, but I still prefer the version of him I have in my minds' eye. Ken - you're a star, and I've always thought you should have your own radio show.
I wish it could be on T.V. but they put too much swearing and ads about life insurance, virus, cheating, if you can't pay well take it away, murder, theft. Hospitals piles , leaky bladder. Underwear, it would be a real treat to have a bit of Happyness ,for a change!.
'Hot Afternoon in Early June' one of my all time fave Shuttleworth songs, just so delightful and so observant but fits better in the 'Midsummer Madras' episode that was on the radio.
Does John know that his wife moonlights as Holy Mary, a bar maid in the famous Manchester club The Phoenix where you can enjoy 'sunshine indoors' Ooooopppphhh!
Amazing find - thanks for uploading! I had no idea there'd been a pilot. I've always thought of the Shuttleworths as a sitcom and thought it would work, though it's so subtle and so much about everyday banalities I couldn't imagine it working in the mainstream. Interesting to see Ken - he's pretty close to what I imagined, though I've always had him in my head as Bill Oddie with an Afro - and less obviously weasely. The interiors and surroundings are exactly right. (Mary I've always had down as a beady-eyed battle-axe a la Timothy Lumsden's mum in 'Sorry'). Awesome find.
Graham does a great job actually dressed up as Ken as well as the voice. I pictured his afro being bigger. But as for Mary!!....I don't think it's ever been mentioned on his radio show but I did imagine her as having short brown hair in that style. If anything the actress is just a bit too young and pretty. A little older and with more of a glum face and she'd be spot on. Have to say these things are best to the imagination. On UA-cam there's a couple of things I never knew Graham Fellows tried out for the character like this and the talent show thing. But the way he creates it for radio....The Shuttleworth family, Radio Shuttleworth, Lounge Music, Open Mind....and his live show where it's just him on stage....it's all better than telly. Oddly enough the sitcom would've restricted the possibilities which have no limits on radio!!
Graham i love the heavenly serene intro music you created for John Shuttleworth and love the atmosphere you created around the character warm, kind , uncomplicated, funny, and very lovable, I try endlessly to recreate some the lovely keyboard music that you play i bought a Yamaha PSS-680 , but i cant seem to find the other organ you have a Yamaha PSS-51 what's the difference between them ??. never give up John Shuttleworth he just puts me a such a happy place, and if you can please put more f his stories on film if you can. Thank you so much Graham
I never imagined Ken Worthington looking like that - with that thin papery voice, I "saw" him in my mind as this little grey wizened fellow of about 75...
Disappointed they didn't use the same house from 500 bus stops. Can't imagine John living here. Ken is slimmer than I imagined, looks like a diddy man. Mary is spot on. Great stuff and good to see but I'll go back to the radio shows and my imagination.
I can't help but think that this would have worked better if Graham had played all the characters...Mary and all, maybe even Treacle. Ooof..still a very respectable television presentation.
Nice, but this is not at all how Ken looks in my head. I will pretend this man looks and sounds like Ken, he is also named Ken, but he isn't our Ken. The real Ken looks like an everyday, dull older British man.
I can't believe anyone could be physically capable of disliking this
Agreed- amazingly addictive look at our little lives....what clever man
If any non British people are watching, this is what the UK is really like
I'm a Brit living abroad and that is why I love The Shuttleworths. Everyday British people and their capers, I miss this so much.
Well up north
Northern England, we don’t wave to our neighbours and be that friendly very often in the south
Was like.
Absolutely!

Totally agree , and could not have put it better myself.
I
Also agree,
Shame there’s no new
Material 😢
Well said. Although he did make a full series, 500 Bus Stops, which you can buy the DVD of. It's great.
The South can't handle culture.
Graham Fellows is a genius....

Wish the BBC/another network had picked this up and run with it, like Stella Street/One foot in the grave. This would have made a wonderful series.
I know, I'd rather see a reality show of the musical genius John Shuttleworth who has been on Jools Holland, than reality shows with talentless celebs
Ken’s come a long way from getting crucified by Tony Hatch on New Faces in 1973
I love how Ken looks and acts exactly how I imagined he would !
The near death experience of treacle had me on the edge of my seat
What a find! After all these years, I wasn't even aware there was a tv pilot. When I think of the rubbish that got the green light - how was this not commissioned?

I’m so pleased to at last see Ken and Mary. They’re just as I imagined them! Ooof!
Brilliant. This should be made into a T.V. show.

This is quite simply a "CULTURAL MASTERPIECE"...............and I really mean it !!!!!
It's rubbish John. Doesn't grab me. 😂
Ken swinging on the stairs!! Genius 🤣
Love how the car changes from a Golf to a Clio. 🤣
Watched this a few times and only just got the joke about the microwave 😅
'Hot Afternoon in Early June' one of my all time fave Shuttleworth songs, just so delightful and so observant but fits better in the 'Midsummer Madras' episode that was on the radio.
It's poetry ain't it?
great rare footage although in my head I always imagined Ken to look like Syd Little.
Although John said he had an afro a couple of times. More like Leo Sayer maybe :)
yes , crossed with him off Corrie who used to run the supermarket

Peter Cornelius is notable in his absence
Very entertaining should have gotten a series!
Ken's sartorial elegance is lost on radio or behind the camera. Such a dapper gent.
Does John know that his wife moonlights as Holy Mary, a bar maid in the famous Manchester club The Phoenix where you can enjoy 'sunshine indoors' Ooooopppphhh!
Thats exactly what i was thinking. Well spotted. Greetings from northern Ireland.
Call the continuity police people !!! Green golf turned into a green Clio
The Women at 1:01 i guess is meant to be Mary’s friend, Joan Chitty
Ken, cracks me up!
The fantacy scene where John floated along singing about Suburban life made me feel a bit queezy ..... I had to have a lie down afterwards.
It was weird time travel thats why.
Same with John's washing line that Ken rides on. Makes me dizzy!
@@antoinettehellyer9522 .... Ken was probably on the Malibu
It's as if Mr Shuttleworth is walking around in one of my dreams.

''Shurrup satan .... oooooffff''
always great to see new John Shuttleworth stuff :)

Ken is described in the book 500 bus stops as having a ginger afro
Brilliant!

Brilliant! This should be commissioned along side the cartoon!!
you've endangered that poor cats life .....
He's a serial cereal eater
Wow, back in the day you could buy off-brand-bran-flakes for 89p
What a bargain, I'd have filled the garage.
This is fantastic!! Please make more
Love it! Thanks Graham & Merry Christmas 21. 🌲Ve
I watched this most of the time I was on holiday
Quite right John, nylon carpet would increase the inflammation of eczema, therefore kens reasoning is very suspect.
Nice one John, went to see you in Bromsgrove last night great show glad you’re back 😂
Ken wasn't wearing his whitesnake jacket
Last I heard Ken celebrated his 60 birthday
And had a ginger afro.
Christmas has come early!!
Agreed! What a wonderful surprise :D
Ken, you're a genius.
I'm having a hot chocolate. It's 2.26pm.
John`s neighbour on the other side is Mrs Bond and her son Noel who you may recall is very good at finger picking .
That Ken. He is a caution!
I never imagined Ken Worthington looking like that - with that thin papery voice, I "saw" him in my mind as this little grey wizened fellow of about 75...
I always pictured him to look like a cross between a mole and a frail old man.
@@crispindry2815 Come on, everyone knows Ken has an Afro!
same here!!
excellent
Superb
Should have been a series, better than the shit you get on telly nowadays...
Genial observation of the Suburbs
nice one Ken.

Love kens curtains ❤️👍😊
I’m laughing my self stupid at Ken swinging from the stairs.
Is John's wife the barmaid from Phoenix nights?
Yeah it is. She was called Mary in Phoenix Nights too
she does her own stand up character called Mrs Nice - she's fantastic!
Yes it is. The Actress’ name is Janice Connolly
Bass-player of The Dooleys!? A rare treat.
I knew a lad at school who looked like John lol.
i always pictured Ken Worthington looking like James May from BBC Top Gear
I thought Mary was supposed to look like one of the Chuckle Brothers.
Was hoping to see Ken's His and Hers mildewy wicker chairs.
But it wasn't to be.
Did he ever get that bench
It’s all he’s got left from the divorce :(
I can't help but think that this would have worked better if Graham had played all the characters...Mary and all, maybe even Treacle. Ooof..still a very respectable television presentation.
I'm picturing Graham as treacle the cat and it's terrifying - I wish he'd done it!
Actually saw Mary! That’s a rare sight indeed.
Ken is supposed to have a Toyota :-(
yes I think best left as just audio. far more powerful.
14:40. amazing stuff
Mary looks very close to how a imagine her.
I haven't seen Ken before
Just the job
It's all wrong Ken and Mary are in my own imagination ps I love it though
Holy Mary
I always imagined a fat Warwick Davis with a Jackson 5 afro as Ken.
13:27 Oooph, shut up Satan!
An ex girlfriends Dad was a like John. Always taking the tv sound down a touch and getting bollocked by his wife
Is that peter Powell reading the traffic report on the radio .
Mildewy or rancid?
Hahahaha Ken at last!! When was this meant to be broadcast ?!? Was it at same time as the radio series?
Does anyone know what the Peter Powell dialogue is ? Sounds funny
Not happy about Mary. It's Fellows doing her voice that makes it so hilarious. Quite like Ken.
Why am I only just seeing this? What year was this please? In between Series 1 and 2 of the radio series?
So is Mary miming to John's voice, is Ken also?
Love it though :)
Nice, but this is not at all how Ken looks in my head. I will pretend this man looks and sounds like Ken, he is also named Ken, but he isn't our Ken. The real Ken looks like an everyday, dull older British man.
Syd Little nowadays is my image. An annoyingly pathetic man - not that Syd is
Graham should have played Mary also. Very naughty of him not to.
I’ve never seen Ken Before.
Jilted John
Is that the same Mary as the one on the radio version of this?
No. On radio Graham does all the voices.
why is John wearing a wig and pretending to be Ken?
mad as a box off frogs........................................
Ken is supposed to have a Toyota not a micra
Interesting, but best left to the imagination. Oh, and his patio door frame needs sanding down.
Mark B oof!
graham fellows is genius but wheres Brian Appleton and unjilted John
I thought ken was like Navids wife. Unseen
