I've run that event a number of times in the Super Sport Division. Car #396 with Jeff Dugan and myself. Brought home the gold with an average of 170.313mph. Ive been having an itch to go back.
Thanks for the video...brings back memories of my buddy Don and I passing the General Lee with John Schneider driving just b4 the Narrows. Best part, we were driving a CHP replica Z28 and I hit the lights which instinctively made John lift. He smiled and flipped us off on the pass, of course we DQ'd but it was worth it 😜👍

I think most people either have no clue it existed, or just cant get time off work to go, personally, i didnt know this was a realistic goal of a event to go to until like this week imao
Well you need to have a car that your willing to abuse, and unless you want to stay in the lower speed classes you need quite a few racing safety upgrades. And your car needs to be in perfect running condition if you what to live thru it.
Cool job bringing a V8 Corvair to that event, in a way i was sort of hoping it was a corsa running the stock 4 carb engine, but that wouldn't be holding a good 115 mph out there long!
The camera is an Insta360 - it has two 180-degree lenses and captures a 360-degree sphere of data. By editing the video in software, you can choose which viewpoint to playback/render to the output video. The camera does not physically move. Glad you like it!
Which one of the 3 coupes are more stable at speeds 100+. Your Hugh wing , or the Duck tail, or the slick back??? Plusooksike you have front aero / ground effects.... Just curious. It'd be cool to ride along in all 3 to get an idea. Plus how do they effect speed. OK just getting geeky with it!!!
It's hard to say as we've not driven each other's cars at speed. My wing should be putting down ~350 lbs at 130 mph according to the spec sheet that came with the wing. I also have a front nose that minimizes the airflow under the nose. On two road course tracks (Sonoma and Thunderhill East), my aero package cuts ~4 seconds per lap - this was done via same-day, back-to-back testing. But for the rally run which is mostly straight it's just a a feel/stability thing. We had all 3 coupes up over 150 mph this past May - no issues.

Have a look at www.sscc.com. About a grand to enter but it's more that just the rally- parade of cars, car show on the lawn, 1/2 and 1 mile speed runs, banquet dinner, award ceremony, etc. In May is the NORC (60 miles, two ways - 120 miles total) and in September is the SSCC - 90 miles one-way
In Texas we have the Big Bend Open Road Race, 57 miles from Ft. Stockton to Sanderson with a return after lunch. Nevada is just too far away for me, I have to cross 800 miles of Texas.
If I were to do this again, I'd get the R and cut out the front bars in the front windshield area - or cut them out and make them quick-release/removable for non track events.
Well done video! My daughter and I did 110, 120, and 125 in my 2015 Challenger SRT in 2021 and 2022. Great memories!
Thank you! I started in May 2022 and have done 100, 110, 120 and I just registered for May in the 130 class.
Nicely done Dave! You ran a clean run. Now time for more power!
Great video. My brother is owner/driver if #89 Factory 5. Fun to see him and his car as part of your footage.

Every state should have this for people who want to legally take their cars out and do dangerous stuff with them in a controlled situation.

Fortunately, the corvair's lack of situation awareness is not typical. Most drivers are more professional than that.
