Thanks for sharing! I'm waiting for my hot air soldering gun to arrive to try this with PLCC chips and sockets.

Good. remember preheating board with large ground plans. Preheat 150 f that should do it. always experiment on a trash board to find the right temps. Best Marc

I'm not sure what you said, but I think it was a really good video too. I'm thinking about deigning a board with some of these parts and now I'm a little more confident. Marc, thanks for a great video.

You have restored my hope indoing SMD rework. I've been redoing PS3 and Xbox 360 motherboards and sometimes the smd's and chip capacitors have knocked loose/off during BGA / GPU removal which results in the system not working when reflowing and reassembly of the units. I just bought some solder paste so that if they come loose again, I can properly reattach the pieces. Thanks.

The speed at which you aligned that tqfp was incredible. i find that to be the most difficult state.

Useful info thanks the question is was the original video really show with or edited on what seems to be an analog device either a camcorder or vcr or did you add the retro effects in post? The head switching noise on the bottom looks too legit to be successfully faked so I tend to believe the work was indeed don on some tape base system which begs the question why would you stick to the tape workflow in 21st century?

0:30 Why break the shield ? It adds stiffness to the socket and prevents it from warping. I have successfully soldered a couple PLCC32 sockets without altering them, with very limited plastic burns, and could have not touched plastic areas at all with a video microscope.

Where can I buy a solder tip like the one you’re using for IC. I’m using Face in the company but they don’t have that kind of solder tip.
