Margaret Starbird and others, state that Mary Magdalene, or 'Magdalene' actually means, 'Tower' and in Gematria, is the 'Holy Spirit'. 'The fish'. Love this, thank you so much.
I'm not entirely surprised that someone would write that, to be honest. As a practicing Catholic, I've always been curious as to the importance of Mary Magdalene and the fact that she was treated by Jesus as one of his confidantes. Personally, I get this sense and feeling that while orthodox Catholicism states that the spirit is male (i.e. masculine), I've personally always felt a feminine energy from that part of the trinity. It's definitely an interesting idea, but of course I can only go my own intuition, as I don't have any primary or secondary sources to define or defend those ideas.
Please spread it around. Not sure exactly what you mean by Conservative --Religious( not sure what that means); Political, Financial, or Architectural. Please spread it around anyway.
Discussing Thomas's last saying... You might like to consider that what we call male is not male but a hybrid male/female mix of half and half, whereas female is XX and total female. All male birds are truly male while all so-called female birds are the equivalent of our XY maleness. Ancient religions were based on unaccountable but REAL patterns.
Thank you so much Centre Place for this enriching content. Quick question: what version or translation of the Bible do you suggest we read? Any specific study Bible that you'd recommend? I typically read from my ESV Study Bible. Thank you so much.

@@termination9353 if you read the passage more carefully, Jesus gave his mother into the care of His disciple whom He loved who was standing there already with Jesus' mother. That is to the Apostle John. This is a much more logical explanation of these verses.
The upshot is, KUDOS to you for being circumspect in your explanations without ruining the value so much of this has to people who need a definitive roadmap to add safety to their lives in an ever-changing world.
For many years it's been my contention, having delved into interlinear translations, that the reference to the, "beloved/who he loved" disciple was Mary M., particularly from John 19:27 since all it took was to change neutral word to masculine. Also in the "naming" of Simon, the Greek word, according to concordances [Strong's, Thayer's, etc.] was, "petras" rather than, "petra" changing the meaning from, "shard/gravel/pebble" to the universally used, "rock" , which would make sense that Jesus would be making a joke about the conspicuously irascible and slow to understand Simon finally getting something right. Ironic though in light of where the name, "Peter" has been used ever since, eh? Another term that's questionable to me is disciple. disciple - from the Greek mathités which means, "students" or "schoolchildren", in one instance the meaning is specified as the first stage of learning, what we'd call kindergarten. Disciple has come to be understood as ones who completely understand and fully accept the ideology of the teacher.
I’m catholic and my understanding of disciple is just as a willing student of the teachings of Christ. And from my own understanding a disciple should never embrace any ideology, since ideology blinds us from Truth. What cultural/denominational niches do you see this mistaken understanding of disciple occur? I’m sure that even happens in Catholicism just that my own experiences have been much more grounded in the nuance that comes with truly understanding since we keep making new mistakes even when the old ones get fixed.
The problem with Mary Magdalen being the disciple Jesus loved is John 19:26 - _When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, 'Woman, here is your son.'_ Lazarus is the one identified as the one Jesus loved in John 11:3 _So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick._
@@ryanrevland4333 Seems like he loved quite a few people, eh? John 11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha, her sister, and Lazarus. The point being no man was acknowledged when iterating who was at the foot of the cross and it was the one word, which was sex neutral btw, as, "he" that I see the problem with. It's suggested in the concordances [plural] that it should be interpreted as a "they" or "them as appropriate to the context. Just sayin'

Also, did I understand correctly that we think Mary Magdalene must be historical for the reason that Magdala is not a real place and someone wouldn't invent a non-real place? But wouldn't the non-existence of the village in the historical record at least open the door to invention? I believe the argument is that inventing a non-real place doesn't help someone trying to feign historicity (therefore it must be a real place that didn't make it into the records), but I don't think Mary Magdalene was used as an anchor to history. I think she served a dialectic purpose, and the name Magdalene tells us something about what she represents. Was "woman from Magdala" a Greek colloquialism prior to the gospel stories? I assume it's only because of them, which would mean she's "Mary of the Tower" or something like that. Either way, her character seems to serve the lesson of the story, not represent a historical patron or leader.
Paul didn't say women couldn't be prophets. He said, in fact, that a woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered is shameful. In other words, he acknowledged the fact that women prayed and prophesied in the assembly. He just said they need to wear a head covering. The women who he said should remain silent in the churches were not prophesying or praying but must have been causing a a disturbance of some kind. He said that if they have questions, they need to ask their husbands at home. But prophetesses are well established in the church.
I was always fascinated and wondering when women talk about St. MARY MAGDALENE (Mary from Magdala, presently Migdal, Palestine), most of the time they seldom mention, bring up the subject, or drop the issue that the facts, 7 Demons have cast out (expelled/exorcized/drove out) from her... (ref. Luke 8:2)... Most women firmly denied she was a former Adulterer or Prostitute, because it was not directly said in the Bible... Christ said, the Tax Collectors and Prostitutes will go ahead to the Kingdom of Heaven than those self-righteous Pharisees and Sadducees... (ref. Matt. 21:31). Do you think any woman possessed with 7 Demons is not capable of the Sin of Adultery, Fornication, or Prostitution?... It would be tough to believe that she was not capable of at least committing one of those SINS, wherein, in those days, women's roles were mainly Housewives for the main purpose of giving HEIRS to their own husbands' LINEAGE... Facts and Truth of the Matters, Biblically and Logically speaking... Amen.
Do you think it might be profitable, to include in the discussion the work of Glenn Kimball? While I realize getting ahold of much of his work is difficult following his death (as his family seems to be suppressing the vast catalogue of his recordings), there are still some lectures and interviews up on UA-cam... not to mention two of his three small books. His contention is that there is post-extra-Biblical evidence that Mary the mother of Jesus, Magdaline and Joseph of Arimathea (among several others close to Jesus) fled or were forced out of the Holy Land and migrated to countries up north. I think his insight into records of this migration northward and the impact of their potential presence in northern countries is terribly fascinating and, potentially, very important. For anyone interested in this subject, I would highly recommend taking Glenn's lifetime of work into consideration.
It's also in Homer's epic the Odyssey. See the servant name Euryklea and the word meaning to proclaim which is also the word used by Jesus about the woman who washes his feet in Mark.
Is every exchange between the apostles dialectic? Is anything in the gospels not dialectic? How late could the gospels conceivably be? Is it all too late to preserve historical information, because that's not what it was trying to do? Could it be that the gospels are trying to grant authority in the great argument for which "new" traditions should win out following the destruction of the 2nd temple and the Roman decimation of Jerusalem?
Also, IF Philo and Logos-theology is the germ for Jesus Christ, is there any scholarship for John being the original Gospel? It's definitely closest to Philo, and then could explain the synoptic gospels attempting to put the Logos-made-flesh into actual history, perhaps using Josephus (which is why Luke knows Josephus, as I've commented on other videos).

Thank you for the information you present! Very intriguing! I wonder what a progressive teacher like yourself thinks about the idea of giving in to the desires of "the flesh" and the decisions we as human beings make based on the desire? Should the individual be considered above the collective based on these desires?
Jacapo explains that Syro was a Syrian nobleman, whose wife, Eucharia (Mary's mother), was of royal kindred. He continues, "Mary Magdalene was born of a right noble lineage, and her parents descended from the lineage of Kings." In a much earlier manuscript by Archbishop Rabanus Maurus, Eucharia is more fully detailed as a descendant of the Royal House of Israel. That was not the Davidic House of Judah but the priestly Hasmonaean House of the Maccabees, who reigned in Jerusalem from 166 BC until the Roman occupation of 63 BC under General Pompeii.
Odessyus had his feet anointed by a woman named Euraclaeia, which means "known far and wide." Jesus said to the woman who annointed his feet that she would known far and wide.

There are a few things wrong here referring to Mark. @8:00 - Jesus mother is not unnamed. - the women are not led by Mary Magdalene. She is just the first listed. in all 3 mentions. - not just the family is painted in a bad light. Mark also paints Jesus in a bad light. - the most obvious feature in Mark has been left out: the end mirrors the beginning. there is a simple reason for this behavour: Mark was a deconverted ex-christian. And he tells all the reasons to his deconverion in an allegorical way. Overall i would say it is a comprehensive good introduction, even considering alternative views.
@@maxwellmaxwell3042 Gethsemane. The Author of John's gospel thinks this is unbearable. This is the shortest and most obvious example a christian would object to.
Where did Mary M exist outside of the Bible? Otherwise, your discussing a character in a story, within a story. One needs to bring validity of her existence.
Great lecture. I have just discovered these and will be watching more of them. One question, though., Why does this lecturer seem so sure that the authors of Matthew and Luke were not aware of each other? I know this is a popular view, but by no means a fact.
"There's no reason to create a character from Magdala or Nazareth" as a writer I find this to be a bit of a silly assumption. I intentionally write characters from no-where towns, often for no reason other than personal enjoyment. It makes the story more human, more interesting, more believable.
"Apart from the fact that Jesus was said to love Mary Magdalene, there is not much in the gospels to indicate their intimate closeness until Mary appears with Jesus’s mother and Salome (the consort of Simon Zelotes) at the Crucifixion. Not so, however, and the gospel of Philip, where the relationship between Jesus and Mary is openly discussed: "And the companion of the savior is Mary Magdalene. But Christ loved her more than all the disciples, and used to kiss her often on the mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended by it and expressed disapproval. They said unto him, why do you love her more than all of us, the Savior answered and said to them, why do I not love you like her? ... great is the mystery of marriage - for without it the world would not have existed. Now the existence of the world depends on man, and the existence of man on marriage." P. 70 Bloodline of the Holy Grail by Lawrence Gardner
I've read a theory that "Magdalene" is actually a nickname meaning "Tower". I don't know if there's any Historical basis for this. I've only read this in all those weird gnostic Mary magdalene goddess books.
Mark is not the 1st gospel matthew is,the 1st one, what mark r u reading frm, mark's gospel does not end where you say's it end ,there isnt another mark's gospel, if there is another marks gospel tell me where it is!
Which version of the Bible are you reading? The original manuscripts of Mark’s Gospel ends after Mark 16:8. Also, Mark is the oldest Gospel. Use your brain and realize that the order in the Bible is not necessarily the order in which they were written.
Being a witness to the risen Christ is not the be-all-and-end-all qualification for an apostle. Lots of people had seen Jesus after His resurrection but not all of them were apostles. "Because I say so" is not the basis for strong doctrine.
Thed demons were character defects which all possess in varying degrees! such as anger, anxiery, gteed, lust, dishonesty ,fear, jealousy ....... you name a few!! J
neatly put, bravo. The interrogatory 'who' can, it seems to me, only mean which of a number of possible candidates? One can hardly point and say, that one there chatting to Spock, or the barmaid at the rose and crown in Jerusalem.
Not really, because there is an abundance of evidence that Spock and Kirk are fictional characters. Even though many historians and critical literary scholars also think supposed individuals like Moses and King Arthur did not really exist, using the same kind of scholarly rigor, most scholars who study the New Testament, do believe that a person named Jesus of Nazareth did in fact really exist. They just also feel a lot of fictional embellishments have been added to his story.
So we have two prominent but mysterious figures in John's Gospel, The disciple Jesus loved and Mary Magdalene. Here's an idea. The beloved disciple is emphasised because he is the writer or narrator and Mary Mg is emphasised perhaps because she is the person who relayed a lot of these stories and information...there has to be a reason why Mary Mg is emphasised so much.
Is it like nobody is going to check anything someone says because less than 1% of the words in the bible are spoken by women. Mary mother of Jesus spoke four times. At least two of the times she speaks Jesus rebukes her. Paul thinks very highly of a woman in one of the churches he visited and then famously tells women to be quiet ( probably a scribal insertion). It was only after Adam rejected the animals that God decided to make Eve out of Adams spare parts. In America the various religions stood opposed to a woman's right to vote.
Adam did not 'reject' the animals. Rejected them in what way? He gave them all names: (Gen 2: 19 (KJV) (which means he named the 'serpent' also). God knew he needed a partner for himself and made Eve from one of Adams own bones, 'bone of my bones, flesh of my flesh', (Gen 2 :23 (KJV) not 'spare parts'.....from his very substance, out of his body. One flesh.
@@J31624 you realize you arguing and saying fictional characters said something when they are fictional, they didnt exist so really could not have said anything.... it's all just made up

Luke said Jesus appeared to "Simon" (not Peter). That could have been Simon Cleopas, one of the guys on the road to Emmaus. He's also mentioned in John's gospel at the foot of the cross (Cleophas).
I love the description of Peter as a misogynistic, more or less thug. If Jesus said to Peter, "You are the rock upon which I build my Church," which I was taught Jesus 's Church was the Catholic Church (I was raised and educate d Catholic) the Catholic Church continues to remain exceedingly misogynistic and even contemptuous treatment of women. Something I was never taught but internazilized to my detriment simply by breathing it in through the Catholic ether.. i long ago left snd reputiated the teaching of the Catholic Church.

If only you creatures understood that faith and belief are *Exact_Opposites* but clearly the savages or americans - deprived of all culture, have no idea that faith and belief are *Exact opposites*, Faith being active, while belief - which is passive/automatic , is like hope, a form of dreaming and thus tends to stupefy the reason or what can apprehend what is and cannot be different. Of course, not being able to understand that, some suppose belief to be something other than a maleficent weakness which Joshua/jesus explicitly forbade his pupils.

My research indicates that The Beloved Disciple whom Jesus is speaking about while on the cross is indeed Mary Magdalene. Mary was Christ’s wife and the two of them were a complete Soul, composed of both female and male energies. Mary Magdalene and The Christ were Twin Flames. So, when Christ was telling his mother that his beloved disciple would now be her son, he meant that as long as Mary lived, He was in her. She was taking his place because He lived in her!! He would never be gone as long as Mary lived. Sandra Embleton
As I myself am interested in Catastrophism, I’m always drawn to possible esoteric meanings in scripture (and all sorts of traditions ), so I found it interesting that someone else was asking about the anointment of the feet, the meaning of the hair (as rays) and the tears etc. - and also interesting then your explanation that Myrrhe is the pointer to death and the Egg to resurrection (- btw. the egg has a shell that comes off; significance see below). As my favorite interpretation of catastrophism has shifted somewhat away from comet impact to micro-nova, my own question in this story was drawn to the linen / cloth left behind after Christ has risen, and the angel in white cloth. Esoterically death and resurrection of Christ becomes about death and resurrection of the Human Civilization after the last reset, and with the sun being the actor, it becomes ultimately about death and resurrection of the sun. So my interpretation of the left behind linen would be an outer shell / layer of the sun (that may have dimmed the suns light for a time) that gets blown away by an eruption. (Something similar but larger may have recently have happened with the temporary dimming of Betelgeuse). I was recently drawn to repeating in my mind the “Memorial Acclamation” in my head, although I have been considering myself an atheist for more than a decade now, I was actually raised as a believer (I’m German and Lutheran). “We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection, until you come again.” In my head it is German of course: “Deinen Tod, oh Herr, verkünden wir. Deine Auferstehung preisen wir, bis Du kommst in Herrlichkeit. - Geheimnis des Glaubens.” “Bis Du kommst in Herrlichkeit.” actually translates as: until you come in Glory. And when I think of Glory, I think of Gloriole = Nimbus, which also conveys the image of a blown away layer with the brightest rays coming from the center. And awaiting that kind of “glory” again at the end of the age points of course to a repeating event / sun cycle. I could go on, how the twelve apostles represent the zodiac, and thus refer to the cycle of the Great Year (see precession of the equinoxes; watch some Randall Carlson for instance), so I thought: maybe Mary Magdalene being the first witness to resurrection might make her also an object on the sky (maybe Venus getting passed by the blown away layer first, so Venus enters the “grave” in a manner of speaking: which would make Mercury “the beloved” Apostle (Mercury is always facing the sun! It stopped revolving around itself)) etc. - there is a whole rathole to go down (Who is Peter? the Earth? Who are the 500? The Asteroid Belt? ). But there it gets complicated: there already is Mary (the mother of god / the virgin sign of the zodiac) on the sky… - but that’s another story. maybe there can be multiple Mary. P.S.: I know: scripture has many layers of text / authors, and also many layers of meaning, and not every layer of text has a correspondence to every layer of meaning. Still it is fun to try to get at the esoteric stuff (especially in John), even if sometimes I’m being anachronistic (or worse) in finding my own layers, that actually aren’t there at all.
Continue to do this. 90 percent of Christians dont do this. Its necessary to get out of the mentality of binary thinking. "If it doesn't mean this then it must mean that".
I suggest watching Chuck Missler Beyond Space and Time, anything by him, really. He will nail down all of those meanings for you so you can actually see Christ in all of that, if you're interested. He talks about so many interesting things. Be prepared to learn quickly. He speaks fast so I usually put the video on a slower speed to try and catch everything I can. Hope this help. God bless!
The Gospel of Jesus was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own. The religion was hijacked by Rome, the Gospel was broken up scrambled adulterated into a bunch of competing narratives. Later four of those adulterated gospels were canonized with falsely ascribed authorship and a Gnosticism cover-story. It was the finding of an original Gospel of Jesus scroll in Jerusalem that gained the Knights Templar power over the Church and their eventual undoing when the church finally retaliated against them Friday 13th.

Mary Magdalene was a witch, the initiator of one small field that died in wars, from the first day of the old Stone Age, a branch of the family that planted seeds and plants in the ground, whose men had died many times and places in wars, robberies, revolutions, coups, villages in the regions, and men without lineage, gave birth to many daughters of the lineage because of the missing male part in the genome, but the man was absent, and for this reason the women behaved strangely in the opinion of others, because the lover is not to be found in the natural rhythms found in our genes, and those who wandered alone in search of a lonely man strangely alone were called witches in Europe. Thus began Mary Magdalene's life, to whom came the pitiful Joseph and put Mary, through whom through Mary came the bread boy, Christ, the name Jesus Christ, who is a branch of the fisherman's lineage, who also ate bearded vultures, the river Niilo, the Egyptian region.

I love that Luke is thought to be a wealthy woman who was essentially a feminist.
I'm conservative but I like your lectures, they are very detailed and I learn a lot. God bless!

The problem with Mary Magdalen being the disciple Jesus loved is John 19:26 - _When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, 'Woman, here is your son.'_
Lazarus is the one identified as the one Jesus loved in John 11:3 _So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick._
Just sayin'
Mary Magdalene was a Jews and wife and disciple of Jesus. She wrote a gospel. She ignored that Jesus is a god or son of God.

But Magdala was a real place. It's located in the area of Migdal in Israel.
Are the Cathars the source of the word cathartic?
Sorry for my plethora of questions. I find these lectures fascinating.
Was Mary still a Virgin after giving birth to James , brother of Jesus?

Where did Mary exist outside of the bible?

@8:00
- Jesus mother is not unnamed.

"There's no reason to create a character from Magdala or Nazareth" as a writer I find this to be a bit of a silly assumption. I intentionally write characters from no-where towns, often for no reason other than personal enjoyment.

"Apart from the fact that Jesus was said to love Mary Magdalene, there is not much in the gospels to indicate their intimate closeness until Mary appears with Jesus’s mother and Salome (the consort of Simon Zelotes) at the Crucifixion. Not so, however, and the gospel of Philip, where the relationship between Jesus and Mary is openly discussed:
"And the companion of the savior is Mary Magdalene.

“We proclaim your Death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection,
until you come again.”
In my head it is German of course:
“Deinen Tod, oh Herr, verkünden wir. Deine Auferstehung preisen wir, bis Du kommst in Herrlichkeit. - Geheimnis des Glaubens.”
“Bis Du kommst in Herrlichkeit.” actually translates as: until you come in Glory.

Wrong, we have so many early texts, from multiple places, in multiple languages, it can catagorically said that is simply not true.
@@delishme2 I AM quoting from those ancient texts Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts. Gospel scripture John 21:24 "This is the disciple[whom Jesus loved/ Lazarus] which testifieth of these things, AND WROTE THESE THINGS: and we[Apostles] know that his testimony is true."
John 11:5
Now Jesus LOVED Martha, and her sister, and LAZARUS
John 11:3
Therefore his sisters sent unto him{Jesus], saying, Lord, behold, HE[Lazarus] WHOM THOU LOVEST is sick..
John11:36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he[Jesus] LOVED him[Lazarus]!
@@delishme2 You never actually read the Gospels have you?
@@delishme2 which are you, Lala or Delishme?
I am surprised you do not mention that the bible was translated into several languages plus the Catholic church withheld seventeen books from the bible when the saint James bible arrived..
I had a problem with the missing no wife until I read about the Essenes. Their teachers were encouraged to be celibate.
Out of town away from airport

I am... Sorry.... (And not) I Am troubled that you cannot see the connection here. Those who 'seen Jesus in the flesh' were able to believe and understand Jesus because He is the 'word' or the 'law'. Where Paul was such an awesome 'lawyer' - that his vision which had 'scales' (of judgement) only needed a 'perspective' change in order for Paul to 'see the Truth'.
Yes. I am a 'prophet'. ...and you are running out of time.
Shalom.
One very important fact that all leave out is All the people close o Jesus were Essenes
I was waiting for the Da Vinci Code. 😅
Some scholars think that Mary "mother of James and Joses" is Mary mother of Jesus. Salome one of Jesus' sisters and this James and Joses are Jesus' brothers...all present at the death and burial as a family.
Steve salome is john zebedee mother and peter n david Zebedee matthew was written last James n jude n ruth n joseph was mary children jesus brother n sister n mary n martha Lazarus sisters
Save yourself a lot of work and analysis and read Dr Barbara Thiering no one has ever disproven her work
I have
As a self described Christian Rationalist cannot fathom the ignorant discourse around the work of the late Barbara Thiering. Her findings and conclusions are irrefutable and make way for a more truthful intelligent debate around both Christianity and Islam. All the so called experts are simply being arrogantly belligerent to protect their egos at the expense of the survival of true loving and inclusive teachings of the great Jesus the Man and Jewish David King.
people have been messed up about sex forever. what a freakish cultural accident for so many people to warp their lives around.
The making male could refer to adulthood in the Roman world. Christ's revelations are meant to make children of God into brothers and sisters of Christ.
Definitely not that lady in the picture, she’s obviously Irish or Scottish nothing Jewish or Hebrew looking about her👀👀👀
Luke tries to erase Mark. Where the heck does that junk come from? Does Luke cop to that? Does Luke's gospel open with, "This is an attempt to get rid of the Gospel of Mark"? No. Does Luke even know that Mark exists? Who knows? You cannot build a doctrine on ifs and maybes and that's all this guy does (and all the myriad guys like him (James Tabor, Bart Ehrman, Robert Eisenman, etc.). They get in their echo chamber, sit around and smell each other's farts. It doesn't occur to them to actually READ the material they claim to be expert in.
Luke 1:1-3 - forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, 2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; 3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
Where, in that header, do we find, "I'm trying to debunk a particular gospel account"? It's not there. How can a "scholar" state that it was the goal of Luke to eliminate Mark - "And it almost succeeded."
Poppycock. That's not scholarship, that's bullship.
