The conversation with Jesus and Lazarus was my favorite! I loved when Lazarus got it and the words he said, “They were just words on a scroll, but now they’re about you…”
Isaiah 53 always makes me cry. "Led like a lamb to the slaughter" is one of the most, if not the most, heartbreaking and sobering lines in all of scripture. In so few words, you understand Jesus's innocence and gentleness, and how absolutely violent and undeserved His death was.
Right? And not only was He slaughtered like a lamb, but they also sheared Him naked before slaughtering the Messiah 😣 it’s such a heartbreakingly eye opening prophecy
Its easy to be overcome by emotions with scriptures so descriptive such as Isaiah 53, but lets not forget the promises incorporated with it. All those suffering He endured so that we may have life and live it more abundantly! By His stripe we are healed!
@@ethankalen763 Amen! I’m paraphrasing a bit, but the same chapter also concludes with His OWN reward: out of His anguish, He saw His offspring and was satisfied, and when He finished the Lord’s pleasure, He prolonged His days!
I love how they portray the relationship between Lazarus and Jesus. From Scripture we know that Jesus dearly loved Mary, Martha& Lazarus, but it’s wonderful to see how it could’ve been 1st century Israel. They’re snarky with each other like close friends or family, but when all is said& done, the love between them was authentic and genuine. 😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏
I could definitely see this conversation happening. Makes my heart hurt to think about how much hurt Jesus went through not just on the cross but all those very real human feelings.
Every time I listen to your analysis, I realize how much of the story I miss while watching the Chosen two or even three times. Thank you and I am glad I discovered you
My thoughts exactly! Just like so many of us today! I think that's what The Chosen has done so well for us... They've taken what have been the words on the page & set them before our eyes in reality! 💖
Jesus not only wept, He was frustrated, angry; He dread. We have a Savior who suffered not just physically but emotionally as well. A Man of Sorrows. There are no words that cover the gratitude for what He did for me, and the gratitude that He knows what it's like to be human.
The conversation with Lazarus and in the finale with his mother holding hands are two scenes that really moved me this season. One thing I think has been missing from most adaptations of the gospels, is showing just how terrified Jesus is of what's to come and how he attempts to process it. This show has portrayed this beautifully throughout the season and Jonathan's acting has been top tier. The Son of God is prepared to do whatever it takes to fulfil the mission, but Jesus, the man, is absolutely terrified and struggling emotionally because he knows exactly how much suffering he's about to endure. The garden of Gethsemane scene next season will be incredible.
Thank you for all you do. The conversation Jesus has with Lazarus may not have been in scripture, but it’s so cool how the Chosen creates conversations that enlighten people to the understanding of scripture and link things like Isaiah with what is happening in the gospels for people who may not have known this before. As much as a lot of Christians watch this show , the fact that they use stories to explain things and connect the dots of scripture and who Jesus is helps the less learned and non Christian understand and is thus educational and evangelistic. This is epically awesome
Thank you for saying that. There are some who reject the show writers and runners for injecting any creative liberties of conversations and words Jesus say in the show that are not in scripture. Scenes like this are done for dramatic purposes, and while this particular conversation with Lazarus may not have taken place, it doesn’t depart from the theme of Isaiah’s prophecies.
Thank you for saying that. There are those who reject the show writers and runners for injecting any creative liberties of conversations, events and words Jesus say in the show that are not in scripture.

Right?! It’s so interesting how we as Christians know the story via text in the Bible, but for the people who actually were there, I could only imagine how creepy it would be to see someone walking out of a tomb. I honestly never thought of that until this episode, and I’ve heard this story millions of times. Imagine seeing someone coming out of a coffin. If I saw that, I’d be screaming and running for the hills or passing out.
I agree very unsettling feeling and emotions m. Wait till the end of days. When the dead shall rise. Revelations would give me nightmares when I was very young.
Amazing what Jesus can do, he came to show them all and he knew all those miracles would go down in history for eternity and his words would never die. I thank him for all his love, he did all this for us, even us born 2000 years later ❤❤❤ Being grateful and thankful seems so small compared to what he gave to us, I feel like Mary how can we ever repay him ? 🙏🙏🙏
I really really enjoyed seeing the growth in Martha and Mary. They reminded me of my younger sister and I, how we were one way as little girls then sort of switched as we grew older lol. Martha was super busy and learned to sit, while Mary was relaxed the got busy. 😅 Cool

Great review as usual Brandon! You really pointed out a lot of the nuances that some people may miss scripturally and also the theatrical production processes like the Camara shots and music.
I was thinking about Isaiah 53, Jesus crushed for our iniquities in episode 6 where Jesus is watching the olives being crushed and is so emotional, and the only one to comfort Him is Gaius. Jesus contemplating what needs to happen to do His Father's will. POWERFUL!!!!

I am enjoying your breakdown of various scenes. It has challenged me to look deeper. BTW I shared one of your talks and FB banned it due to violating community statandards but without further explanation.
I always believed that when Jesus woke up Peter in the Garden and said, for the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Jesus wasn't talking about his Disciples falling asleep but Jesus facing his own mortality and being afraid in the moment wishing he could gather strength from his followers in his hour of need.
My head cannon is that Lazarus does remember the afterlife but can't or doesnt know how to describe it so he told his sisters it was like a long sleep so they wouldnt pressure him
IMO, the performances by Lazarus and his sisters highlighted this episode; they were just exquisite. I also like how Yeshua answers Lazarus' comment by saying, "I Am." He's done that at other times, too; very cool.
@20:09-the caveat with Jesus. Yahweh is experiencing a human existence in a human way. Jesus is Yahweh’s theandric existence, and as the man Jesus, Yahweh is at all times thinking an knowing as a mere man. And yet when He knows something beyond human wisdom and insight or performing miraculous acts, it is always by the anointing of the Spirit. The Chosen is doing a fine job of portraying this.
If Mary was around 15 or 16 years old when Jesus was born, and He died at 33, then she would have been 48 or 49. Her hair still could have been black with a few gray strands.
I thought it was interesting that Lazarus came out with the limp he went in with. Jesus did just enough to revive him & not completely regenerate everything after 4 days in the tomb

I'm enjoying guessing where the microphone was during that still camera one-shot. Hidden on the table within that huge centerpiece, most likely. Notice how loudly we hear the wine cups/chalices being set down onto the table.
We haven’t seen a conversation like this since Jesus and Nicodemus (John 3). I know we’ll see him at the crucifixion but will we see him before that? Will he be there when he arrives on the donkey? I know this conversation wasn’t in scripture but you have to admit, it helps humanize what had just happened. Though supernatural, it’s natural for us to ask questions. I’m looking forward to Judas losing his mind over the money spent in the nard. We’ll see how they filmed that as well. God bless you, brother, love what you’re doing!
I love your scene breakdowns Brandon. You are always so thoughtful about how to apply what you know about scripture to what The Chosen is presenting. You nailed it every time! Also, this scene with Laz rates 2nd or 3rd for me in all of The Chosen scenes so far! I LOVED it!!!❤
Our Creator tells us exactly what it's like to be dead. It's like sleep; unconscious, no thoughts; Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10; Psalm 146:4, 115:17; John 11:11. The resurrection of the dead is yet to come, when God's Kingdom comes "on Earth as it is in Heaven" like Jesus told his true followers to always pray for; Acts 24:15; 2 Timothy 2:18
One that I want to find out when I'm in heaven is what was it like for Jesus to be both fully human and fully God. My brain really can't comprehend what that must be like. Was he 'all knowing' all the time? Or did he sort of disable that knowledge most of the time to live a more human life letting God the Father make him aware of things when he needed to know them? I'm going to have so many questions when I get home to heaven. LOL
Along with Isaiah 53 is Psalm 22!! Jesus will prompt the Jews memory by starting it while hanging on the cross!!!! They only have to look around to see it being revealed in front of them...
Shmuel & Yussif did not have any conversation about Lazarus resurrection during their visit/investigation on episode 8 … was hoping for it since the last sign was big
I think it is important to notice... and acknowledge... that Jesus was very hard on the religious leaders of the Temple. He said stuff like "you who say they are Yahudim (Jews) and are not... You are the synagogue of Satan". Remember that he did NOT go to the Temple for guidance... he went there to guide THEM. To be baptized he went to the Zadok line of priests in exile in Bethabara - John the Baptist. Seeing this... how do we love the "Jewish" through the learning curve? What are we to think of this legalistic religion that has obviously missed the mark? ... and we want to trust those same people today? to guard and guide what it means to be of Yahueh? Are we to trust them to safeguard ANYTHING official from God? Perhaps we need to walk the extra mile with THEM in this time?
Yes, Isaiah 53 is prophecy about Jesus. Jesus came to fulfill that prophecy - to live out that prophecy. But in the day that Isaiah wrote it, Jews interpret this passage to be a reference to Israel - God's chosen people. Lazarus would have questioned Jesus on that. " Isn't that a reference to our people? To all of Israel?" If you have contact with Rabbi Jason Sobel, check with him.
This comment is certainly not something of faith or salvation, but just something to be considered... In the closing verses of the book of John, Jesus tells Peter how he will die. Peter looks back and basically asks, "What about him?" To whom is he referring? Doesn't it make sense that he is wondering about Lazarus? He already died once, remember?!! Whoever it is, this is the same person who wrote this Gospel. There are lots of other reasons to think that it was not John. It was not called that until, I believe, the 3rd or 4th century. That doesn't mean it wasn't inspired. I just always feel compelled to mention this because it makes so much more sense that it was written by Lazarus, and talking about the reactions people had reminds me of those last verses in the gospel of John!
2:51 The other way I think that could happen is if the person didn't leave their body after the body dies. And the spirit most likely not coming aware of itself and trying to function the body. But like a car that does not have any gas. It just would not run. What would happen if he wasn't resurrected, and he didn't go to heaven or hell. Is eventually he will become aware of his spiritual side of himself. And it will act independently from the body. But in his current state, it would take a little while. This isn't exactly a good thing. Because it would be what they would describe as a ghost. In a little bit more than that. He will be literally trapped in a world filled with beings that are corrupted by angels a long time ago. And had deal with the fact that he is unique. And not like them. AKA I am talking about the unclean spirits, or known as demons. It might not be in hell, but it would be just as if he is. He'll be in a world where he can't properly interact with anyone or anything and the only ones, he could act with are actively at war with God. He may run encounter with an angel from heaven. they more than likely might not like to give him a light a day. So I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone. And generally, people either go to hell or Abraham's rest in this time. later to heaven.
I'm sorry but I still do not understand why Jesus would resurrect Lazarus and not Ramah! I feel that Ramah was just as important as Lazarus was, so why one and not the other??? Can someone explain??? I wasn't a great believer of Christian faith before, but this series has completely turned me around! I am so grateful for The Chosen but in my new-found faith, I still find some parts difficult to understand!
God is Sovereign. He does whatever He wants. But inevitably, there's purpose in everything He does. Romans 8:28 "…we know that all things work together for good to those that love God..."
Ramah was a fictional character and the storyline helps to set up “doubting Thomas” which is also in scripture. The raising of Lazarus is also in scripture.
The storyline of Ramah and Thomas is fiction. The writers are telling a story. And to link it in to the Biblical truth of Lazarus, the weeping of Jesus, the pain and grief of Lazarus’s family and the joy and comedy after he was raised from the dead - all the while Thomas is standing there - is ridiculous. And it has nothing to do with a doubting Thomas.
ramah is not on the bible , they just add her to interpret thomas as a doubtful apostle. Lazarus is in the bible and its the will of the father to ressurect him with eyewitnessess thats why today in israel the tomb where lazarus was resurected is still there and people still visit there
Personally, I assume that the writers of The Chosen have decided to introduce the non-biblical character of Ramah (and have her not be healed) mostly for those of us who have also lost someone or didn't experience healing - as a way to help us deal with all the questions and to grow closer to Jesus in the process. It really impacted me when Little James talked to Jesus, earlier on and now we can feel with Thomas in his pain and questioning. Besides, Dallas himself hinted at a larger arc of growth for Thomas - this is not yet the end of the series, not by a long way! Also, remember that Jesus tells Lazarus here that his resurrection wasn't so much a case of "who" (and therefore "who not"), but rather a "when", in other words: this was to set in motion everything that is to follow after that event.
It is almost as if Jesus had to get the power of God out of him to use it all up so that he could die and then the power would return to him when he is resurected after 3 days.
When Jesus was in mortality, he was not God. Only when he was resurrected did he become fully God. And the author of Hebrews tells us that Jesus and the Father are the same. Both have bodies of flesh and bone, glorified to power and light to a point that were we exposed to it without the protection of the Holy Spirit, we would wither and die. Too many pastors and theologians think the Father is a spirit, yet they acknowledge Jesus to be resurrected with a glorified body of flesh and bones. To think the Father is a spirit and that the Son has a body of flesh and bones makes no sense.
God can not die. A real death sacrifice was needed to pay the ransom for Adam's choice. God sent His firstborn, His most dear and beloved of all spirit beings. The one God begot before the universe, before any angel. God, who has no beginning, begot His firstborn, the beginning of everything, before the angels or the universe and sent this most precious of all as a ransom sacrifice. Hypostasis/trinity god doesn't make sense because it is a lie. God sending His firstborn, only-begotten makes sense because it's the Bible truth. Jesus continues to serve his God and Father Jehovah long after his resurrection to Heaven - Revelation 3:12. The Father and the Son are two separate beings in Heaven. The Father has the power and can give that power to anyone He chooses. He has given all authority and the power of the holy spirit to Jesus, but Jesus still serves his God and Father Jehovah - 1 Corinthians 15:24-28
I don't think Lazarus experienced the wonders of Heaven at his passing. Since Jesus is still walking the Earth at this time, nobody can enter into the kingdom yet. It's not till after Jesus asends into Heaven that the gates are opened again and all those that have died before and up to that point can get in. It's because of Jesus's resurrection that we all can now enter into the kingdom.
I think Mary & Martha were referring to Paradise in Sheol. Remember the story about the rich man and the begger that went ti Sheol - one on the punishment side and one on the Paradise side called Abraham's Bosom. The were both alive & conscious in their spiritual bodies. It would've been the Paradise side that Jesus took to Heaven with him after the resurrection.
Beware people. The Chosen both takes away from the Word and adds to it in order to maintain a more interesting storyline. NOT OKAY. REV 18 22, DEUT 4 2.

Brandon, when Mary was looking into the tomb, was she thinking about what would happen to Jesus? Did she know what was going to happen to him? 🤔
To all of Israel?"
If you have contact with Rabbi Jason Sobel, check with him.
@23:15 Lazarus was The Beloved Disciple
How did Lazerous know what was going to happen to Jesus but the other disciples didn't have a clue what would happen to him?
I’ve had that same thought recently.
I personally do not care for the handheld camera technique. It messes with my brain.
Hello sir Brandon
Mary has a dejavu before it happens?
I disagreed with the decision for him to say he was "asleep." I think it takes away from the miracle.
John 11:11, "After he had said this, he went on to tell them, '“Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”'
Holy Spirit reveals to her for the Nard? Not has to fully be explained the true purpose!
Hello Brandon. Della Warren here
I don't think Lazarus experienced the wonders of Heaven at his passing.
It would've been the Paradise side that Jesus took to Heaven with him after the resurrection.
true bro i believe your saying 😊😊😊
OMG why do you keep stopping it .
Beware people. The Chosen both takes away from the Word and adds to it in order to maintain a more interesting storyline. NOT OKAY. REV 18 22, DEUT 4 2.
