God Bless those Guards! & huge shout out to the 2 musicians, who held their mate up as he stood up, got back in the ranks & was going to try & continue playing his Trombone, at the risk of Reprimand, they showed that the training they received as a Soldier of the British Army, pays off & runs deep. The safety of others before self is the default position.

In 2020 I think it was, they were more at risk of drowning, they had a monsoon. Some years they have no "incidents", some years like this they have a heatwave & have lots of "incidents". Every Year they have Medics there.

It’s the weirdest feeling when you faint on Parade. The only way I would describe it, imagine that someone puts a pair of glasses on you restricting you vision to about 90degrees (45 degrees from centre each side.). Even at that point you just think oh, that’s a bit strange. Then imagine that 90 degree angle suddenly closing in to zero. At that point you’re on you’re way down. I fainted twice on Parade, both times it was early morning, quite cool, each time - as I was standing is how I hit the ground. The first time I was out cold, unconscious for 17 minutes. The second time it happened as soon as someone touched me, I was aware that I had fainted but I couldn’t move, speak or focus.
It’s not fun, it hurts, you do some damage. There are tricks to avoid it but they don’t always work. My respect to each of those soldiers who fainted and to the rest who participated. Parading in those temperatures is draining and exhausting.

If you really need to apportion Blame, at least get your facts right. Trooping the "Colour" has nothing to do with the Royals except for the Fact that the Royals present each Regiments "Colour" to them. The "Colour itself" carries the Battle Honours of the Regiment, since it's inception. It also carries the Regiments Badge & Motto. The Regiments "Colour" was originally carried into battle by an Ensign & if he was killed someone else would pick it up & carry on. The Historic early battles, no one shouted orders, they were drummed by the Drum Corp. that is the reason & significance of the Single Drummer before the Escort for the Colour march of to take it. The trooping of the Colour, when the Ensign slow marches the "Colour" to all Troops, is a re-enactment of the days when Men fought on foot & Horseback, with Muskets & Swords, think the Battle of Waterloo, when the Troops needed to re-form after a Charge, they reformed as ordered by Drum beat, on their Colour. To be able to do that, the Colour was shown to all the Soldiers. It was "Trooped" through the Ranks of Soldiers, Infantry, Cavalry & as far as I know, Artillery, so they would all know what the Colour Looked like, so they could re-form in the right Place. Obviously, they don't need to do it now, but this is the British Army & they are very big on Tradition. The Regiments "Colour", is one of the most Important & meaningful objects a Regiment owns, far more important than the Regimental Silver. In some Regiments, an Officer actually takes the "Colour" to his room when he retires for the night. The Monarch attends the Trooping of the Colour, partly as titular Head of the Armed Forces but also out of Respect. If you watch carefully, The Monarch Salutes or in the case of the Late Queen, bows their head to not only the "Colour" being Trooped, but also to the Cavalry "Colours" & the Number 1 Gun, which is the "Colour" of the Kings Artillery on the March Pasts. Every Single Soldier on Parade are filled with Pride, not only the Regiment who is Trooping, Welsh Guards in this case, because they know the History of it & also know that their "Colour" remembers those that fell in all those Battles & know when they are gone, Generation to come will also be carrying on this Tradition. Not one of them doesn't want to be there.

@@spy_on_the_web Sigh... Yes!!! They are serving their Country & the People of their Country. They are carrying on the Great Traditions of The British Army. Any True Brit knows about these Traditions & knows what they mean. The "Colour" that each Regiment owns, is one of the most important things the Regiment owns. It carries their Battle Honours, their Regimental Badge & Motto. It is their History as a Regiment & by extension, it remembers those of their Regiment who fell during each Battle. You don't need to be at War to be a Soldier & there are many ways these Soldiers serve the People of the United Kingdom. But if the United Kingdom does go to war, then these same Soldiers are the ones who will be on the Front Line. They are highly trained fighting Men & Parades like this are excellent training for holding the Line, even when someone goes down injured or dead. This event (Trooping the Colour) has been going on for Centuries, it is a re-enactment of the Days when orders were given by Drum &/or Bugles & the re-form point was where the Colour was. Before the Battle, the "Colour" was trooped, so that everyone knew what the "Colour" looked like & could recognise it even in the heat of Battle & the Smoke from the Muskets obscured the Battle Field.

Traditions are important, though when the weather begins to exceed 25 degrees Celsius (it was 29-30 degrees Celsius) for a maritime temperate climate country, with temperatures usually half of that and often a third of that most of the year, I have long considered it wiser to have a proper Summer uniform. Use white pith helmets with gold crest badges instead of the bearskins, and a white Summer outfit to match, with long shorts and lighter fabric, white tunics, with gold braid and golden buttons. White gloves, perhaps, too.
White puttee wrapping fabrics for the lower legs and white boots with small golden buckles on them. Maybe there'd be a red stripe on the outer side of each leg of the shorts, like how there is a red stripe on the black trousers they do wear. Maybe. I'd prefer not but that would also be okay.
Obviously this will never happen as the British military establishment are so stubbornly set in their ways. The British only started wearing bearskin hats so large, due to the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The French Imperial Guard, the Old Guard (and Middle Guard etc) wore tall bearksin hats with metal plates on the front. Most Britons today are probably completely unaware that this was why the British Guards regiments started wearing the bearskins, because many of their then existent units fought at Waterloo.
As a symbol of the defeat of the French, the British began wearing them (sort of like battle trophies) as a signature sign of victory, at the time, to flex on the French. Over time, that became forgotten outside of the actual regiments, and beyond historians, and it just settled into being a tradition. But there should be a rethink, I believe. A true Summer outfit (this one is more intermediate, for a broad range of weathers) There should be a set threshold for the average temperature forecast that day, and then have them wear the lighter uniform on the particularly hot days.
Make that the new tradition, and stop being so stubbornly machismo about it. Stop torturing them for the sake of decorum. Imperial stiff upper lip mentality. The old guard (even more ironically, considering what I explained about the Napoleonic Wars) in the British military just don't like change. Why replace centuries of tradition with common sense? Oh, right, because plebs like me are too dumb to be right, apparently.
    The idea would be:
    - Winter Dress: Grey coat uniform: Winter (only)
    - Regular Dress: Red coat uniform: Intermediate (variable/most uses)
    - Summer Dress: White coat uniform: Summer (only; and only when very hot by UK standards)

@@SeahorsesJay Out of curiosity, I made an updated version of my comment: (longer, with more detail about the concept)
Traditions are important, though when the weather begins to exceed 25 degrees Celsius (it was 29-30 degrees Celsius) for a maritime temperate climate country, with temperatures usually half of that and often a third of that most of the year, I have long considered it wiser to have a proper Summer uniform.
Use white pith helmets with gold crest badges instead of the bearskins, and a white Summer outfit to match, with long shorts and lighter fabric. Wear white tunics, with gold braid and golden buttons. There could be arm wrapping too, coloured white, with patterning towards where the cuffs would be (only on the lower arms, from elbow to wrist)
The white pith helmets would have what are known as pith curtains (the 'tail' of a sun-screening fabric attached to the helmet; think British helmets in the Battle of Omdurman 1898, except brilliant white, not beige/khaki) There could be a decorative red and gold satin tail braid at the back of the pith curtain, overlaying it. There'd be small, squared-off triangular insignia fabric on the sides of the lower shorts and the short-sleeve tunic end of sleeve, coloured scarlet red with gold buttons.
White puttee wrapping fabrics for the lower legs and white boots with small golden buckles on them. Maybe there'd be a red stripe on the outer side of each leg of the shorts, like how there is a red stripe on the black trousers they do wear. Maybe. I'd prefer that this wasn't the case, but that is still good. The puttees would be wrapped in an alternating pattern and rounded off at under the knee. The shorts would be much better for ventilation, with plenty of air space in between the leg and the more 'safari' like shorts. Folded and sewn hems at the end of the shorts. The shorts would be ironed with side folds.
The tunic would be of a thinner fabric gsm (grams per square metre) I'm not sure what exactly the gsm figure is for their red tunics, and I would love it if someone knew could tell me, but the point is, I'd have it that the Summer uniform tunics would be about half the gsm or less than half the gsm of the red tunics.
Maybe 100-120 gsm or something. Made with a smart fabric to be 'more breathable'. It would likely be short-sleeve with turnover hems sewn and buttoned down (short, to the elbow; though a full-length version could also be used instead) The armpit area would be lighter fabric and made to be more stretchable and breathable. Not a synthetic mesh but something similar but hard to see (microfibre cloth-linen fabric)
Rounded off with a white belt with a golden buckle with the regimental insignia, and maybe a standard red sash worn over the tunic for colour sergeants/drill sergeants/staff sergeants etc (though maybe NCO's would wear it too) I had wondered if the leg puttees could be an alternating white and red pattern, to match the two colours (red and white) maybe on the shorts (though I just prefer the entire uniform to be white without any red stripes, other than the golden buttons and buckles etc)
The boots would be lighter than the black boots they normally wear, but also require polishing and care (like the black boots do) They'd have strong and supporting soles, but would be flush with the leg puttees, matching them well. Obviously they'd have white silk or linen-cotton socks underneath the puttees and boots for regular comfort (you don't wear boots without socks, that is just asking for heavy blisters)
The puttees would be wrapped firmly to the legs (think WWI soldiers) and as I say, they'd have been dyed/painted white and form a tight layer close to the skin, giving the effect of boot gaiters while being acceptable aesthetically with the breezy, safari style white shorts. On the back of the strong, high quality belt, there'd be a white, polished leather pouch with the regimental insignia patterning it in a small central section, lettering and designs coloured scarlet red, with a gold button. Inside it would be a sealed, strong plastic ice pack carefully tested not to be too heavy for the belt.
The turnover ends of the sleeves of the short-sleeved tunic, would normally be white, though red for officers. The collar would be symmetrical showing a similar pattern to the standard red tunics, but would be red and white with gold elements in the design, and lighter in design to be less constrictive on the throat. The edges of the collar towards the buttons of the tunic would curve inwards not be sharply cornered, to improve comfort. I dabbled with the idea of a rare red pith helmet for rank of captain.
Most pith helmets would be white with white wrapping on the brim either side of the shiny, golden regimental badge in the front and centre. The red pith helmet would have white wrapping on the brim instead. Regimental plumes could be fastened or in-built into the side of the pith helmets, like they are in the bearskins (maybe having a dedicated golden fitting on the side of each helmet (the side they are on is different for each regiment; I will explain in a moment), to seal a plum into them (replaceable if damaged after long use)
Or, they could just be fitted into a regular part of either the left or right side of the pith wrapping, when being manufactured (the dedicated golden plume fitting is better though, because it allows easier replacement of the plume if necessary, without tampering with the pith wrapping fabric around the helmet brim; and the gold fitting would be only a small and subtle thing, big enough for the plume to slot into and be fastened tightly into. Simple.
      - Grenadier Guards = white plumes (the white plume would look particularly nice on the red piths that the captains and higher ranks wear) Fitted on the left.
      - Coldstream Guards = red plumes (which would look sharp on any of the piths including the rarer red piths) Fitted on the right.
      - Irish Guards = blue plumes (which would be interesting on either white or red piths) Fitted on the right.
      - Welsh Guards = white/green/white plumes in an alternating, pattern with green in the middle (which would look best on the white piths but still okay on a red pith with only a small band of green over the red pith; 'red and green should never be seen' although that is somewhat of a truism and not always right) Fitted on the left.
NOTE: the Scots Guards have no plumes in their bearskins, so I'd not presume to include an imaginary plume for them to start using just for this proposed Summer uniform. However, to be honest, it'd be nice to give them a plume too; either a black plume to match a plain bearskin lacking a plume, or a yellow plume, referring to the yellow on the old Royal Banner of Scotland (coloured red over yellow; a rampant red lion over a yellow field, with red border designs) Maybe even a yellow/red/yellow plume to evoke that old flag (used since the reign of Malcolm III in the mid 11th century) Just a thought.
But of course, the idea of dark blue/white/dark blue comes to might, regarding the modern Scottish flag colours. In any case, the Scots Guards have no plumes so maybe it'd just suffice to say they are the exception and don't have plumes. I think the yellow/red/yellow plume idea is pretty nice though. In terms of the concepts for the Scots Guard plume I just mentioned, of course the black plume would be the least favourite (you can't have a black plume on a bearskin, that is just silly, it would barely be noticeable and just look like a part of the bearskin was falling off, so it'd be better to have something which stood out on both bearskins and the piths in this conceptual line of thought. Black plumes would only work for the piths, of course.
Two smaller pouches would be symmetrically spaced on the front of the belt, and they would normally be white but red for colour sergeants, drill sergeants and NCOs. Captains and above would have golden pouches with white buttons instead. Just saying, this would be really beautiful and still functional in hot weather.
Obviously this will never happen as the British military establishment are so stubbornly set in their ways. The British only started wearing bearskin hats so large, due to the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The French Imperial Guard, the Old Guard (and Middle Guard etc) wore tall bearskin hats with metal plates on the front. P.S. - Bonus round: I have often wondered if the Household Division could expand. It probably just can't, but it's been around 108 years (1915) since a new regiment was added. I think they have since done a few things regarding battalions and added special units along the way, but I've mused about the potential ideas for new guards regiments to be added (plumes and all - though I've not got around to thinking of the button designs setting them apart; I'll get to that, eventually) The ideas I have had for them, include:
      - Mercian Guard: yellow plume or blue/yellow/blue plume. Referring to the old colours of the Kingdom of Mercia. A regiment for the Midlands, generally.
      - Anglian Guard: white/red/white plume. Referring to the cross of St George on the flag of East Anglia. A regiment for the East of England, generally.
      - Kernow Guard: black/white/black plume (the only time a black plume would work on a black bearskin, would be if it was patterned with white) Referring to St Pirran's flag, the 'Cornish flag'. Obviously a regiment for Cornwall. However, if this was more of a broad ranging West Country based design, it could go as follows:
      - OR the Tamar Guard: black/white/green plume. Merging the Cornish flag and the flag of Devon (with the shared white cross of both, being where they meet in the middle in this conceptual plume) Difficult to name, this one. I settled for 'Tamar' because it's where Cornwall and Devon meet along a border, along the Tamar River. Saying 'West Guard', 'Peninsular Guard' or 'Atlantic Guard' just didn't work for me. Tamar seemed better. Tough one.
(it's an either or situation, not both; probably stick with Kernow Guard, similar to the following three examples where one has to be opted for; sorry Devon)
      - Mancunian Guard: red/yellow/red plume. Referring to the flag of Greater Manchester. For a broader North Western recruitment pool. Sorry Liverpool.
      - Yorkshire Guard: blue/white/blue. Referring to the white Rose of Yorkshire. For a broader North Eastern recruitment pool. Sorry Newcastle.
      - Oxfordian Guard: red/white/blue. Referring to the flag of Oxfordshire. For a broader South Eastern recruitment pool. Sorry (many)
      And last but not least:
      - Albion Guard: blue/white/red (not to be confused with the Oxfordian Guard! - blue at the base of the plume for this regiment, red at the base of the plume for the Oxfordian Guard) Referring to the ancient name for the British Isles and of course, the more modern British Union Flag. For the entire country.
And for convenience, sod it, they are all worn on the left except the Albion Guard which would wear their plumes on the right.
