    RockShox Flight Attendant first arrived in 2021 as a high tech, fully automated electronic suspension system. As the long-awaited response to Fox Live Valve, the first iteration of Flight Attendant was primarily targeted at longer travel trail and enduro bikes. However, given the system’s obvious efficiency advantages, we knew it would only be a matter of time before RockShox would bring this tech to the XC racing world.
    In 2023 we finally received a clue, with prototype Flight Attendant forks and shocks appearing on the bikes of numerous World Cup racers including Loana Lecomte and Nino Schurter. Having since been proven at the highest level of the sport, RockShox Flight Attendant XC is now finally ready for its public debut.
    We’ve been riding the system over the past couple of months on the new Specialized Epic, and here we’ll be diving into all of the technical details behind Flight Attendant XC. I’ll be discussing what’s new, how it works on the trail, and why we think this is the new performance benchmark in the world of XC racing.

    Very well presented! I added a power meter to my Trek Slash Flight Attendant last week, and the changes are; increased change tempo, front rear splits, and of course more user data. Much more dialed suspension.

    on the right side of the cockpit is the shifter for derailleur and the left side is the manual remote for flight attendant.
    my question is where do you put the paddle shifter for the axs reverb seatpost in the cockpit?

    • @FlowMountainBikeYouTube
      @FlowMountainBikeYouTube  Місяць тому

      If you've got two Pod Controllers, there are four buttons in total. Using the AXS app, you can assign whatever function you like to each button.
      For my setup I have the right hand controller set up for shifting the derailleur up and down the cassette. The left hand controller then activates the Reverb AXS dropper using the lower button, while the top button engages the Override mode for Flight Attendant, which in my case is a dual lockout.
      Hope that helps explain!

    my bike scott spark 2023 team issue
    did pre order the flight attendant only front suspension since the scott frame wont be able to put the rear shox
    since its just only front flight attendant shox i can have, i assume that there will be no automatic system will happen since the brain is all in the rear shox..
    what are your thoughts?

      @@peterfreeman3317 You will be disappointed then. Scott are only selling the FA as part of a full bike (that has the modified frame to access the Scott specific FA shock) , currently with two models: SCOTT SPARK RC WORLD CUP EVO (EU) / SCOTT SPARK RC WORLD CUP (EU) that are listed but not available yet.

    To me there seem to be two groups for this. 1. Sponsored racers and 2. People rich enough that they pretend to be sponsored racers.
    I'm not denying the tech is interesting, but I'll leave this the wealthy early adopters and race teams.

      You don't need to make $200k+ to afford a $3k suspension upgrade. I see the masses dropping that on new wheels and tires for their $45k+ truck every day. They aren't making serious money either.
      If cycling and mountain biking are your thing, why not enjoy it to the fullest?

    This looks pretty cool. *But then I realised...*
    Today, after spending a couple of hours last night getting my watch to speak to my current Garmin and Strava accounts, and getting the current accounts to speak to each other and making sure it's all working in synch with my iphone, ipad, laptop and cadence sensor, I set off on an epic ride.
    Forgot to put my watch on.

    I’m a middle aged guy who has worked hard enough to be able to afford luxuries like this. Yes, I get that the price is daunting. Yes, I get that electronic, adaptive suspension on an MTB is unnecessary but it is pretty damn cool. My cars have adaptive suspension, so why not my bike?

      Technically the only difference with a Flight Attendant fork is the module at the top of the damper.
      RockShox sells the Flight Attendant damper separately, so you have the option to plonk one in to an existing fork rather than having to buy a whole new one.
      Conversely, if something went wrong with the FA damper, you could remove it and replace it with a regular Charger damper.
      I'm not sure why RockShox would stop supporting the software, as we understand the Flight Attendant family is going to be expanding significantly in the future. Though even if it did for some reason, the forks wouldn't be unusable as you could always fit a regular Charger damper if you wanted. And as mentioned in the video, without a battery fitted both the fork and shock simply operate as normal in a fully open position. You'd of course lose the Pedal/Lock settings, but neither would be unusable.
      It's also worth noting that the service procedures are identical between the Flight Attendant forks and shocks, and the regular non-Flight Attendant versions. Seal kits, oils and spare parts are the same, and so are the recommended service intervals.
      Hope that helps explain, but just yell out if you've got any questions!

  • @BikingNL000
    @BikingNL000 Місяць тому +3

    I would never see myself buy this, just like any electronic shifter, no matter the price. I love my bikes to be without any batteries, except for my Garmin computer and thats enough. In a world where everyone needs to think about their choices with regard to climate change and a not forever lasting supply of raw materials we really dont need more added batteries and computers to bikes.

      @@FlowMountainBikeUA-cam My perspective as a bike workshop owner is that it's just a bit much in general. I Love that it exists, but I ponder if it is really necessary. The people who it is most useful for are going to be the people who would be put off by the price. One of the best pieces of advice on riding I've heard is to 'look up', so you're prepared for what's coming. I feel that without some kind of lidar sensor it's always going to be a step behind. I will finish this off by saying I haven't ridden it and am open to having my mind changed.
