I’m so glad I got in early on this. This was the FIRST number one single in America to feature Rap music! That’s how cool Debbie Harry and Blondie were 🙂! Great Job on this!🙂

Hi! You are correct, Blondie was ahead of it’s time. This became the first Rap based song to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It opened a lot of doors. The “Man From Mars” the guy in the white suit was the choreographer of the entire piece. There were big name reappears in the video too. It was historic at the time and very shocking. Try, The Tide Is High and Call Me, next from Blondie.
I just found you and like your list of songs that you’ve done. I’m noticing an omission that I hope to rectify. I’m bad at guessing ages but I take you for late teens or so. I want to recommend a brother and sister duo from the 1970’s. Richard and Karen Carpenter know as Carpenters. I was 14 when I bought my first Carpenters album in 1970, Richard was 23 Karen 20. They were performing and competing in musical competitions before when Karen was as young as 16. They did some winning on those and UA-cam has some sound and videos from that time. I’m going to recommend a song from them when they were signed and became Carpenters. There’s a big rabbit hole here if you get so inclined. I’ll start with one of my favorite songs and videos of their and Karen is I believe 21 here. The song is called Rainy Days and Mondays and it is typical Carpenters in style and sound and greatness. I hope you enjoy it and want to learn more. I’ll link a video below. Be warned reacting to a Carpenters song can lead to the Carpenters Army finding you. ❤️

Blondie is the group. Debbie Harry is the singer. Yes, that's a saxophone toward the end. It was a huge hit on the underground disco, punk and new rap scene and all over the radio. Great reaction.

Very ahead, yes. She was a rocker with punk rock roots that was commenting (perhaps with not a lot of flattery) on the emergence of rap, which was still many years from being mainstream. Why the silly rhyming lyrics and the playful line “and don’t stop to punk rock” was not a coincidence 😏
