Reading the qu'ran is something that should be undertaken after learning about mohammad. I agree completely. I read it before learning about him; a only afterwards did the pieces start to fit together. The bloodthirsty violence that followed Islam throughout the centuries was also put into proper perspective. How Islam can be acknowledged as a 'religion'... much less a 'peaceful' one at that... is so incongruously egregious as to be nothing short of insanity!

More accurately however it is a political and social ideology that makes it's political goals a religious duty for it's adherents to follow, and elevates the founder to have equal - or perhaps greater - status to their God. It also helps to realize that Mohammed was the only one to "be given the message of the Quaran by Allah" - only he witnessed the encounter, and then told it to others. The Gospel of the Bible was the telling of Jesus and his teachings by several witnesses other than Jesus, who were able to corroborate Jesus' actions, sayings, and philosophy, and then they told others. No one witnessed Mohammed receiving the Quaran, but many independent people witnessed Jesus. Conclusion: the Quaran is "likely" (or most definitely) the creation of Mohammed's own mind - and therefore a reflection of Mohammed himself.

Thank you, Bill, for another informative and highly pertinent video...I keep wondering about the role that his first wife, Khadisha, and her cousin, Waraqah, had on the formation of Islam. But even when I try to read between the lines, I have yet to decide whether they were genuine in attempting to create a Gnostic religion, or whether it was a cynical strategy for tribal power and business profits. Either way, it all got out of hand after Khadisha died. Does anyone else have thoughts on this?

As a messenger, one should be selfless, self-denial and kindhearted just like who sent him. If the messenger tries to seize God's properties, he is the incarnation of the devil. If the messenger is unkind who encourages you to kill other people, he is devil himself.
A selfish, intolerant, capricious messenger is worse than a mortal. Capricious or self-willed is the main characteristic of fake messenger. God, as well as messenger, has different names in different groups of people with different culture. Despite of that, true messenger bring harmony and peace to the world while fake messenger makes the world full of war, discrimination and capricious.
True messenger reveres God, whereas fake messenger blurs the relationship between him and God in order to swallow up God’s properties. He forgot that everything belongs to God and no one can occupy a single piece of rock eternally.
Fake messenger is slave of devil so that mortals become their killing tools and sacrificial offerings. The ultimate goal of fake messenger is replacing God by himself by receiving God's punishment eventually.
Selfish or not is the touchstone of true messenger.

that the Prophet (ﷺ) married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).

And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and Allah too planned, and the best of planners is Allah.

But the quran is only part of the story and the final chapters supercede the earlier verses.
Except that we could read the Life of Mohammad by Washington Irving. But still the biography of Mohammad comes from the Hadith, we could simply cancel his biography all together after we considered the nature of the Hadith and spuriousness of the Isnad. Since Bukhari gathered 30,000+ Hadith and there were a score of others 300 years after the Prophet death gathering similar stories.
Consider the Hadith that claims Mohammad married a nine-year-old. Now did Mohammad marry a nine-year-old, or did the tribal chief who told the story marry a nine-year-old and simply say that in order to justify his own self?
"The Prophet came to our village and washed his right hand before his left hand." Well did he really do that. "When the Prophet came to my village he steped into the Masjid with his right foot before his left foot." So what?
But if there is Sahih, then it is Qur'an which is Sahih, not Bukhari or any other chronicler, or any Isnad.

While Muhammad told his people to "kill those who disbelieve in Allah," children were often given a reprieve:

But Muhammad’s definition of a child was not the same as contemporary understanding. Keep in mind that many Muslims also insist that Aisha reached puberty at age nine, since that is the age that Muhammad began having sex with her. If so, then the age for “manhood” among boys might have been considered around twelve.
Muhammad played a bit loose with the lives of women and children during wartime. As recorded in both Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:
It is reported on the authority of Sa'b b. Jaththama that the Prophet of Allah (may peace be upon him), when asked about the women and children of the polytheists being killed during the night raid, said: “They are from them.” (Sahih Muslim 4322, see also Bukhari 52:256)
