However, it is awesome when a setter is so good that his/her attackers have no blockers or a 1-on-1 opportunity. That's basically the only time you see "straight down" spikes in high level play.
San Diego State had a club teams player years ago when I was in school. He came to play when we were up in Chico. During warmups he could bounce the ball so hard and vertically that you'd swear it would almost hit the gym lights. He turned out to be something of a one trick pony but damn he did that trick well.
Most of those are just falling balls, the only one really extremely impressive was the one at 3:00. That setup was perfect. The ball didn't linger in the air longer than necessary, it was still on its apex for the spike (unlike the others where the ball is falling and accelerating)... beautiful

Watching these boys jump over the net and spike the ball reminds me of back home. I played volleyball either our coaches put me under the net to set up the ball, spikes, or serve. The muscle and bones grind like crazy every time I jump to spike the ball. The 3rd meter back home we call it; (chang nge mwet). Fly high as you can. Great job.
Sorry, but lots of the clips (practice) are fake. They don't use mens net hight (2.43 meters)... Only womens height which is 2.24. That means it's much easier to get a 3-meter spike...

Invariable the boys football team would CRUSH the girl's volleyball team, having practiced volleyball not at all, after the girls' had been practicing for years and were well into their season. The spikes the boys could do were unstoppable.
Powerful yes, but let's see them do this with the tall opposing players with their arms up. I'm not professional, I did however dominate the volleyball court in rehab lmfao. When you see people super winded from a fun game of volleyball it really shows you the damage that drugs, alcohol,( a drug) and cigarettes can do the the human body. Up until that point I had never really wanted or had the chance to try out volleyball. As soon as I got my first spike and block on a guy trying to spike it I fell i n love with playing. Every single day for those 30 days I was getting healthier and playing volleyball for a good hour +. Thankfully it helped me get somewhat back into shape and provided me with an outlet to get my anger and issues out..... I won't go into that since it's not related and only someone who has been an addict will truly understand. P.s. I didn't realize how many injuries you would suffer from volleyball lol. Jamming of the fingers to twisting an ankle after going up for a spike or block. I sprained it during one match and had to take a day or two off lol. All in all the volleyball part was a great experience.

this video has so many dislikes because half in not more are not 3rd meter spikes just mini jumps by tall people, a real good one is the clip of a 6'5" dude who jumped 38 inches and made a spike a foot over the net with fucking power to his slam, that is a 3rd meter spike.
I mean, Spike something at 3 meters might sound crazy but it isn't, usually professional players hit it at 3.5 or 3.7 meters (we usually hit it at like 3.1 or 3.3 on college/university level)
I had a guy in high school who used to smash balls like this and it gave someone a grade 3 concussion. The dude was completely laid out. The whole gym just went silent. It is crazy how hard people can hit.

It's deceiving because there's women on the court. That means they're using a 7' 4 1/8th inch net(women's height). The men set the net up 7 inches higher so these spikes wouldn't look so ridiculous. Still some insane vertical jumps on those guys!

Fran Meca That‘s wrong. If the ball hits the ground then a player can hit the net or cross the line. An error (ball on the ground) happened first so the other error doesn‘t count. But there were some spikes that really wouldn‘t count but that aren‘t so many. :)
Fran Meca you are very wrong. If the player scores a point, then they can go to the opposite side of the net and touch the net. They only cant do that when the referee gives license to serve the ball and when the game is going on.

Touching the NET after the Ball has touched the Ground is not a fault normaly. But in a game it can be hard to determine wich happened first.
Most of them aren’t though, yeah ofc there were some. But the majority didn’t.

training, lucky genes, to stay in the air longer bend your legs back in the air to create hang time.
The floating is just an illusion. Sprints and squats will certainly help you achieve a big vert. Like loot said, genes and jump technique help too.
