I haven't tried it myself, but I've seen some people on UA-cam heat their creasers on a electric single-burner hotplate, and that has an advantage of adjustable heat. I've used a micro butane torch, but only heat it for a few seconds. That torch has an intense flame.
Lex, Heat plate and Micro butane torch is a great idea! but then I need some feeling of old-fashioned-way of doing things! I am full of high-techs in everyday life. Craft is my safe house! ; )
Thanks for the tutorial - I was wondering if creasing is done before or after finishing the edges? I see some people crease: - Before the edges are beveled. - After beveling but before sanding/finishing. - After beveling and finishing.
If anyone could help me with my questions, that would be a great relief please. 1. What is special with an alcohol flame/lamp? I mean is the creaser better heated up on the alcohol flame or is it just a convention? Should I sure buy one of these lamps? 2. I am also on the fence if I should buy an individual creaser as demonstrated in the video, or go ahead and purchase one of those 5 in 1 sets that have creaser plus groover blades in them all together?
I already have 2 & 2.5... I am thinking of 1.0mm.... But don't know whether it's useful.... Is it for 1 or 2oz leather or skin? Alcohol lamp is not available here in India... I am using my ZIPPO for heating...
I use adjustable creaser and fileteuse. When i heat the adjustable creaser, only 20 seconds and press with gently and then Repeat two or three time for perfect result. How about you jun ?

Love your detailed videos, thanks kindly for all the hard work!
palosanto make left handed creasers if you ask them, as i have a set of them, although they are not cheap. the heads seem to be made out of brass too

It's so enjoyable to see you using an analog creaser. For the part that you overburnt, it seems that part is very strechy leather.

Why do we crease the edge of the leather? Is it just for decoration or has a specific function?
What about ceasing with a wing divider and damp leather ? That's what I have been doing.
Damp leather and divider... that's interesting method. how does it work with chrome leather?
I wonder if heating a wing divider would give a similar result.
Not enough mass to hold the heat, I'm guessing
Please tell me how to make it
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS REALLY HELPED ME AS A BEGINNER
Awesome! Thank you!
2nd : I saw some videos where bevelling before creasing... But in some videos, after creasing... Which is the correct way...?

right, doing it multiple times with adjusted temperature makes fine line. I tend to do it in cold and then heated.
Where did you get your burner?

oh, Lynn! thank you for your replies! :)

You heat your creasers way more than I do. 10-20 seconds is typically plenty for mine. Maybe it is the type of fluid/gas you are using in your lamp.
also the flame size!
