- DIY Upgrade of the front stock speakers in a Chevrolet Matiz M200 (2009 MY) with Pioneer TS-G1030F.
I have also upgraded the stock CD / Radio unit with a Pioneer MVH-S420BT • Chevrolet Matiz stock ... and the rear stock speakers with Pioneer TS-A4670F • Chevrolet Matiz stock ... .
My DIY skills are not that great, but the end results are great, especially with the up receiver.
Came here to watch a tutorial for my matiz and find a pink floyd lover, cheers from mexico¡¡!!
Awesome! Thank you! If you're interested, check out my other video changing the main receiver / head unit :)
I was trying to decide which speakers to buy for my 2001 Suzuki Ignis but your reaction to Pink Floyd is exactly what I needed to be sold on the Pioneers! If you still have this car, add a small class D subwoofer and you are golden. I already have a sub, missing the mids and highs for now.
Also if you have an AUX jack or bluetooth, using a parametric equalizer on your phone and playing music through it will make it sound like a pro audio setup. You can use REW to generate an EQ profile that will absolutely blow your mind and you can use Poweramp Equializer (on Android) to apply the generated EQ. Or you know, a miniDSP as a normal person would, but I'm trying to save a buck here!
Hi, glad it helped; I was surprised given the price-point how big improvement these made! :D
See other videos - we also upgraded the rear speakers to pioneer 6x4" which was another great improvement, and finally the head unit to a Pioneer one with Bluetooth input... Anyhow, all moot now - we no longer have this vehicle!
@@SeanPearceUK just installed mine yesterday, they sound amazing for the money and size, as you said. Thanks for the video mate!
Hi Sean, did the same upgrade on my daugthers 2005 Matiz. Worked like a charm, I reused the original screens. Thank you for uploading this video, big help. Thanks !
Glad it helped. I decided to use the Pioneer covers - but I suppose an option is to just fit the bare speakers and replace the OEM covers, if that works for you. :)
@@SeanPearceUK I removed the two not used flanges and could fit the OEM covers right back. A few minutes ago I replaced the old 1-DIN radio for a 2-DIN JVC with all the modern features, It slided right in, all the stock connectors fitted, so this was a 30 minute job. Next thing is the replacement of the back speakers.
@@tedschuurmans very much looking to put in a replacement (probably single DIN with Bluetooth), and rear speakers with 'next size up' from the fronts (see other comments for model numbers). Would be interested in the model of the JVC and what you think?
Most importantly - did you make an install video?? 🤔😁
(I'd heard that the brackets are a little tricky in the Matiz, but your experience sounds different?)
@@SeanPearceUK Hi Sean, I have put in the JVC - KW-R930BT, as said the 2-DIN version. It fits really well. What I noticed is that in your video, you have brackets, in the 2005 Chevy Matiz there is more like a cage (don't now if that is the right word), it surrounds the whole 2-din and it fits perfectly. I just bought a gopro camera, but not yet able to make any install vids. Let me try to get the camera to work, and will do a bit of a "reversed install" vid, that will make a lot of sense ( I suppose) :-)
Thanks! Good choice of music. Those speakers will go right in to my Peugeot 107 👍🏼
No problem 👍
How did the process go ? Im having some trouble with my toyota aygo 2009
Thank you very much for this Video.
It was very helpful.
I have done it with the same Speaker type.
It's good to have this kind of Videos on UA-cam. 😊
Glad it helped
I came for the speaker but stayed for the music 🎸😄
Got me a Copyright hit! :-D
This video helped me a lot, greetings from Chile mate!
Great to hear that... Was "first time" for me and so scared of screwing it up... Making the video helped keep me on track :-)
thanks a lot i thought its harder and takes more effort
greetings from poland
Glad it helped!
It is a nice video Sir, and I like the music very much. BUT, I do think you have a problem, especialy at min 5:09, the original speakers were 8 ohm (the 40W is BS for sure), so I think you had probably 2 channels per speaker in original setup, that in case you had only those 2 speakers on the car. NOW, the new 4 ohm speakers sound louder, sure do, actually X2 loud, but the load on your CD unit, per chanel, has droped to 2 ohm ... well, may I ask ... is it still working? If it still does, that`s a fine CD unit. Sorry for my english ... but I`m sure you got the idea
Oh wow! I had not spotted the impedance differences between the old and new speakers! I'll have to check this out... I suppose worst case is it can damage the output stages of the receiver / CD!
HOWEVER, it did perform OK - no noticable problems posed that I was aware of!
BUT since then I have changed the receiver to a Pioneer Bluetooth one - and a new video on that upgrade is in order...
I will actually double check the impedance compatibility with that too - one would hope they are "matched" or tolerant of the range!
(*THAT* said, there has been two occasions where the new unit "shut down" and would not turn back on; until the whole unit was disconnected / reconnected and second occasion, battery disconnected and reconnected! BUT it has behaved itself in the some months since that last occurred!)
Good work!! Thank you!
Welcome!
2 questions whats the diameter of the speakers and does wattage matter for it to work or no?
Hi, the diameter is 10cm or 4" (inches)... The wattage determines how hard they can be driven, and these easily handle the stock stereo - plus if you see other upgrades - an (more powerful) pioneer stereo upgrade too. More important is to understand the nominal 'impedance' in ohms suits your amp... These are 4 ohms (same as stock)... You. Must choose / understand for the amp your using... Using lower impedece means they are driven harder and can draw too much current from the amp. For specs see www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/ts-g1030f/specifications
Hi Sean great video! Can I know what adaptor are you using to connect the Pioneer with the stereo?
There wasn't an adaptor per-se. The speakers came with some exension wires, which had the appropriate "spade plugs" on one end. I used a kit I had and crimped on the blue Spades which then plugged into the sockets on the original Matiz connector - as seen around 3:30 in the video... You can see this kit and the little leads that came with the speakers about 0:10 seconds into the video. If you search Amazon for "Crimp Connector set" they're available for about £20-£30 with a selection of connectors (Rings, Forks, Spades) and a tool...
@@SeanPearceUK Thank you for the answer!
Is the bass on this video coming only from the Pioneer speakers?
Yes, absolutely - they made a huge difference; but recording through phone not even that great!
Also added the Rear speakers (6x4 inch) (see links in description) and they made another significantly impressive change as well! 🙂
We dont see the most important thing.. how to remove the plastic to get access to the speaker ??
Sorry - I used a plastic tool (Spudger) and just lifted them up and they popped up - I think there's just two or three clips holding them in.
00:43 before
08:20 after
Thank you - quite a contrast, even through the phone microphone! :-)
Really a nice job man! Thanks for the video, i have the same speakers but i don't know how to install the pioneer grills instead of the stock one. They dont have the clip for "clipping" into the plastic of the car, how do you fit it stuck into it without the clip? Thanks for answer and sorry for my bad english :)
As I recall the surround for the Pioneer Grills are screwed through the two speaker mounting holes... They don't "clip" in place of the originals...
Now I cannot remember if the surrounds are "on top" of or "under" the speakers, though...
Sorry I was too excited and missed that part in the video!
Did you get how to fix them down? Please help
@@NewTABRIS96 you need to remove the "grid" from the Pioneer plastic, Place the Pioneer plastic without the grid on the speaker (they Need to Just be placed, not screwed, only placed) now you can screw It with a short screwdriver through the hole on the Pioneer plastic. Once the Pioneer plastic hold the speaker and itself Simply push back the grill info the Pioneer plastic. Sorry for bar english but i'm italian, i can try to explain It better in italian. It's easier to show than saying It.
Could you advice me an adaptator for the chevrolet matiz in order to connect the speakers ?
For the speakers to connect to the internal connector - one needs to add some "(male) spade connectors" to the cables included with the Speakers.
I have a kit of spades + crimp tool which I use for many similar tasks. The alternative would be to strip and solder the "unterminated" ends of the adaptors into the original adaptor.
Did this improve the sound a lot?
It certainly did, but also with an upgrade of the stock Stereo and rear speakers too... See other videos hereabouts! :)
I’m late but did your stock speakers also sound like a 3 year old made them blindfolded?
Haha! Yes, they were poorly. The pioneer updates (front and rear) were a huge improvement.
@@SeanPearceUKAh ok thank you do you know what sizes speakers I should use cause I believe it’s stock now but it sounds like I’m only listening to one 4th of the song and one doesn’t work.
screws and cap fit? The old cap doesn't fit?, I'll appreciate your answer, thanks.
The OEM covers can be discarded and don't look particularly nice IMO.
The Pioneer supplied cover plates fitted perfectly, but I only used 2 out of the 4 screws; same positions as the original OEM. The Pioneer grilles (obviously?) then fitted the pioneer cover plate, and screws through the speakers to fix both in place. (i.e. they don't "snap" in place as the original OEM covers did.
I used the same metal screw brackets as OEM (rather than the Pioneer supplied ones), and I believe, (cannot recall) the OEM screws; if not, then I used 2x Pioneer supplied ones!
As I'd only used 2 of the 4 fixing locations, I was a little worried that they might not fit 100% and be twisted / bent or wobble or vibrate; but they did not.
The back-up plan would have been then to work out how to use the two additional Pioneer metal tabs + screw holes (might have needed to drill the plastic in a very awkward area), but they performed impeccably as-is. 😀
@@SeanPearceUK thank You very much, I'm gonna do the same way!.
@@SeanPearceUK Hi, i did the same to my matiz but, I've screwed the speaker in the the 2 hole of the matiz dashboard, then how i fit the cover plates? For now i just pushed them into place, but i like to screw them down i just don't get how to do it.
@@NewTABRIS96 As I recall - if you want the PIONEER covers, as I have, you screw the Pioneer surround down into the two screwholes... The Pioneer mesh grills "pop out" (very carefully) of the surrounds, and can be eased back in again after fitting the surrounds... (Hopefully if needed in the future, the grill can be "eased out" again if necessary - but not tried that yet!).... Just be very careful not the bend the mesh - it does "click" in nicely if you progress slowly around the edges...
are the rears 4 inch aswell, i also bought the pioneers but i',m thinking i might buy the same for the rear
No - the rears are 4x6 and I've upgraded those too with Pioneer TS-A4670F. I have another video showing this upgrade sitting in the wings (I need to re-record one scene for it all to make sense, before publishing!). Note that there is a little fiddling required to get them to mount in place of the stock similar sized speaker, but not same screw-hole pattern...
Hey Sean, do you know a user manual for changing the speakers as a layman?
I don't know (don't think there is). The speakers come with some instructions, but accessing them depends on each car. I'm no expert and managed as you see in this video. I've just received another set of speakers for the rear and also replacing the stereo, so look out for new videos soon! I'll try to add a little more structure and show more details on those videos! 😁
What size were those male spades you put into the adapter? Great work
Standard red / blue ones in my pack... Sorry no idea otherwise but might be able to measure them in the New Year.
@@SeanPearceUK thank you I have the same car lol got me new radio installed now and new speakers your videos helped so much thank you
What speakers do you recommend on the back of the car? preferably pioneer too
I've not done, or even examined in detail, the back ones; but I think they're the same size (4" / 10cm) as the fronts, so the same speakers would probably work? Of course choice would be Pioneer, to match the fronts. :-)
In my mind I've been thinking that 6" round (PTS-G1330F?) or 4"x6" oval (maybe TS-A4670F?) or similar would be better in the back, if they are 4" at the moment! That all depends on fitment of course, and "drop ins" woule be ideal for me, totally lacking DIY skilz!
Of course price is starting to increase with these options too! :-)
@@SeanPearceUK I have been researching and I found that this model fits (Pioneer Ts-G4620s G-Series 4" X 6" 200-Watt 2-Way Coaxial Speakers 8.30in. x 6.90in. x 2.60in.), we are in touch, thanks for everything my friend!
Fantastic - (TS-G4620S) yes that looks like a good equivalent. Do you say they fit well in the back?
@@SeanPearceUK i installed The kickers ones, model DSC460 4x6" and fits perfectly!
Hi has anyone replaced the middle trim on top of the dashboard?
Odd place to ask... BUT maybe I could point you towards the very helpful owners club forum here: www.chevroletownersclub.co.uk/forums/matiz.21/
Are these speakers Bluetooth
No they are not. The speakers connect to whatever "receiver" (Radio / CD / Bluetooth) & amplifier your car has installed... HOWEVER, I have ALSO replaced the stock stereo unit (and rear speakers) now with upgrades - and the upgrade includes Bluetooth from iPhone and Android devices and works very well. Please bear with me - a little more editing and I'll publish both videos very soon! :D
@@SeanPearceUK did you replace the rear speakers with the same pionner model of the front?
@@nsilva800 See now latest Video - rear speakers are a different size and replaced with some Pioneer TS-A4670F... 🙂

> And the most important thing I haven't seen: how he adjusts the speakers and grilles to the holes.
I don't recall that there was any "adjustment" required...
If I recall - the mesh grilles from the pioneer covers need to be eased out... With the speakers positioned into the holes, put the pioneer surrounds over and align the screw holes... I can't remember maybe only 2 of 4 align... Once screwed in place, carefully insert the mesh back into the plastic surrounds. Disassembly will be tricky - the mesh will need easing out somehow without bending it!
What Price
I paid just under £25 in October, and presently they are showing £21 on Amazon.co.uk... For some reason I've just noticed the listing is showing TS-G1033i, and a little research shows that the TS-G1030F delivered and installed, is perhaps a newer model with near identical performance.
In Amazon to Mexico $35 USD that was yesterday, may be in your country is going to be more cheaper
music name?
It's Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album (see video details above - UA-cam has matched and demonetised! ;-) )
@@SeanPearceUK thanks a lot!
