Great stuff, either one of those three, at their best, would be the best center in the league right now, and for Kareem and Wilt that's saying the very least possible.
After watching a lot of chamberlain games, he barely even used his strength because everyone would call everything... When have you seen him post up and push back...
Chamberlain was 50% after his serious knee injury in 1969 . One of the ways you see it here is that Wilt bends way down to flex his legs under or near the basket before putting up a shot or dunk . He would often lose the ball to a steal or be fouled which for wilt was a one point foul shot at best and usually zero points . You should have seen him in his prime . He was one of the most mobile (left, right, back and forward) and quick big men you ever saw . In his prime he'd grab a rebound on defense and dribble it down the court . an offensive rebound he just dunk or tip it in . if he came down with it , all he had to do was flex his feet and his head would be over the rim . He did go on to win an NBA title with the lakers in 72 and 73 but he had a great team around him including Gail Goodrich and Jerry West .
Good point.Wilt hurt his knee had an operation on it went thru rehab and came back to play that same season. They lost to the Celtics in the finals I believe and nobody even remembers that Wilt came back from serious injury and couldn't have been at 100 pct.I believe they lost in 7 games. With no injury and Wilt at 100pct maybe Wilt has 3 rings not 2
@@ralphgreenwood2469 actually you got the year mixed up. Chamberlain injured his knee in the 1969-70 season (the year they lost to the Knicks in the Finals), Not 1968-69.
I also remember back in the mid 70's we in Detroit loved Bob Lanier and wouldn't trade him for any player in the NBA including Wilt, KAJ, and Bill Walton.
I could never imagine Lakers fans booing Kareem, but then again he did start his NBA🏀career as a rivaling Milwaukee Buck (Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls were western conference teams at the time). I wish I were at the 1972 ALL-Star🌠game at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California but me and my twin sister were in our mom's womb at the time.
I didn't get a full count from the film yet but I get the feeling several assists weren't properly credited to these centers. Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were given only 3 and 2 respectively and it seems like they had at least a few more than that. I know for sure Bob Lanier has a nice assist in this footage that doesn't show up on the 1972 ASG stat sheet on basketball reference.
If I was Havlicek, I would have refused to wear a gold or purple uniform under any circumstance lol... Also, got to say that Kareem looks quite good in that gold uniform.
The 70’s was the decade of the center. Wilt , Kareem , Lanier , Walton , Thurmond , Cowens , McAdoo , Unseld , Elmore Smith , Bellamy , Reed , Jerry Lucas , And others.
@@RoyPage1970 Points are not the only way to dominate blocks and rebounds are just as important to educate you and other uneducated Wilt historians after his 6th year in the league he was told to pass and get rebounds and not score as much look it up!!!
Fun fact.I remember a sports writer for one of the newspapers say(It was the next day that he wrote the article)that he saw Spencer Haywood touch the top of the backboard with two hands from a standing vertical jump from right under the basket.
I wish I could get the stats for specific games. I remember as a kid watching Bob Lanier and KAJ. I remember Bob dominating Jabber in Detroit at the Cobo Arena. He would not do nearly as good on the road. I just wish I could find the stats to confirm my memory. I was a little kid back than so my memory could be biased.
At the young age of 13, I watched the NBA All Star Game for the first time that year 1972 in Black & White, because we didn't have a color TV set. Even though I was and STILL a BIG fan of Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain, The ONE player that impressed me the most was Spencer Haywood!!.....
Even though Wilt put up huge offensive numbers, he was a VERY unselfish player. He was 7 foot 2 and here playing vs. 6 foot 7 Wes Unseld and never went down to the low post and demand he have the ball every time and shoot over Wes.
There were at least 3 times when Wilt played with the palming the ball and faked passes and finally passing off, when he should have just wheeled to the basket and dunked it. Half of his points were from offensive rebound put backs.
This was in the era of expansion when teams were coming in every other year. Milwaukee was in a westernmost part of the league, while it was expanding out west.
They talk about Wilt's strength and athleticism....but they forget that he played the game with his mind.....watching this video shows that.
So true
Bill Russell has said ....one part of the game that no one ever talks about is how smart Wilt was...good job Underwatch films
Isn't it remarkable, that a generation later, Kareem was playing his final All Star game in 1989!!
Brandon Rael I was always in awe of Kareem
And people disrepect his legacy trying to brush him aside in favor of kobe or lebron. Smh
@@TheIcemanthomas yeah
Kareem was great and with Magic's help extended his career by a lot
Numbers say that Wilt is the most efficient player, that's the reason why the Lakers got thetitle that 1972 year.
Along with west and Goodrich
Jerry West in the all star game: one of the few times I can think of where a player had his name on the front and back of his jersey.
Great stuff, either one of those three, at their best, would be the best center in the league right now, and for Kareem and Wilt that's saying the very least possible.
BasketballJones48021 bruh nah they would dominate it

Wilt never won in 73
His last championship was in 72

Lanier was an excellent shooter as well. And not just "for a big man." He could shoot with most anyone mid range in.
Kareem the young lion!!!!!!!
YESS! Kareem even dominated Wilt in H2H matchups in the early years.
@@MrBimirud Wrong Wilt dominated Kareem and in his prime would destroy goofy Lew. The goat all hail the Stilt Wilt Chamberliaaaaann!!!!
No one talks about Walt Clyde Frazier. He was really a good player. He controlled the floor, a good passer and shooter. He also could steal the ball.
He was the ultimate point guard.
Yes he was .. one if the best for a long time

The centers of the old Midwest Division: Jabbar, Lanier, Sam Lacey, Clifford Ray/ Tom Boerwinkle. Heck, Boerwinkel once got 37 rebounds in a game.
Chamberlain looks like he's playing with high school kids

my uncle played bob lanier in highschool, pretty cool huh?

60S 70S BEST ERA IN MY OPINION!!!!!
Wilfri Castillo nah only 60’s and 70’s

Nice spin and finger roll by Wilt
What a fast paced game very competitive too.I would like to see the whole game

awesome highlights
they was very competitive for an all star game
Myles Henderson they all were competitive before the whole iso ball movement of the mid 90s and 2000s
Kareem iso alot.
Almost all the time he scored was off of a iso.
At the time of this game Magic Johnson was in 7th grade
Good lord that dunk by Wilt at 7:25
I loved that "dipper dunk" by Wilt he was so Kool with it.
6:43 NASTY move by Spencer Haywood right there! Embarrassed two defenders on that one, lol...

Dave Cowens, who was no slouch, at all, having to play against Wilt, Kareem and Bob Lanier, in the same game, was a bit much.
Hey, he did have Wes Unseld too.
Connie Hawkins had the best moves in the whole video.

Wilt is the GOAT!!!!!!!!!
Numbers don't lie, Kareem better scorer and free throw shooter at the time. Wilt better overall player.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
12 points (5-10fg, 2-2ft)
7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 steal in 19 minutes
Wilt Chamberlain
8 points (3-3fg, 2-8ft)
10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block in 24 minutes
Milwaukee is in the West?
Jerry West's jersey is funny, ... west in front and west in back lol

bucks in west in 19th century
At the time of the all Star game Kareem Abdul jabar was on the bucks so why is he playing for the west in this game
Bill Russell but why they are on the east side of the country

Milwaukee is not more west than Los Angles.
Dude’s all playing defense during an all star game…go figure
Since when is Detroit in the West??? I know it was years ago but that’s just wrong 🤷🏽♂️
