Ladies and gentlemen of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Selection Committee, you cannot put the #1 and #2 seeds from the same conference in the same quarter because ethically it looks bad because intuitively you are trying to say, “We want someone from this conference to make the Final Four,” and that happened three times in the entire bracket, and worse yet, all of the #1 and #2 seeds from the ACC are in the same half, making it clear that you want to see an ACC team in the finals.
Exactly. The committee is worried that one conference might dominate the final four. Typical academic, elitist, egalitarianism... They want to ensure 1 team from ACC and 1 team from B1G in final four. If they split up the 1s and 2s from the same conference into different Regionals and different sides of the bracket you might get 3 ACC or 3 B1G teams in the final four. Gee, it wouldn't be fair to have real competition between conferences. It is so boring to have left half of bracket be ACC and right half be B1G. I will go out on a limb and predict the final Pitt/Stanford/Louisville v Nebraska/Penn State/Wisconsin. Why should the fans have to suffer through a bunch more intraconference games to get to the final four? We have been watching conference matches for the past 2 months.
It's difficult to avoid placing the #1 and #2 seeds from the same conference in the same quadrant now that the Pac-12 no longer exists, and most of the top teams are in the ACC or Big Ten. For example, Creighton is the only team in the top 8 that's not from either of those conferences, highlighting the disparity in talent between conferences. Despite this, I think the selection committee did their best to create a fair bracket.
@@aznboyy7126 It's not that difficult, just by switching quadrants to SMU and Creighton above and Stanford and Wisconsin below, you've already corrected that mistake.
DAMN, after all that traveling, I was hoping stanford would get to host instead of louisville...especially since we know the final 4 will already be held in louisville. Tough break! GL Stanford!
It's dumb but sadly logistics is still part of the way the committee will arrange the bracket. You know because it's 1920 and commercial air travel isn't a thing.
Facts … all the conference realignment are set up to benefit TV money from football, to a lesser extent men’s basketball. The travel affects football, the absolute least of any sport Many times they don’t even miss a class on a Friday to go play somewhere Saturday But teams out west that are now in the Big Ten and the ACC miss more class on one road trip then a football team doesn’t an entire year This has become absolute lunacy
I'm a fan of Illinois, but i'm also genuinely shocked to see them in the tournament to begin with. Didn't reach 20 wins and they lost their last two games.

For Round 1/2 matches geography plays a part of the pairings. This maximizes attendance if games are closer to fanbases.
