@B O ꓭ Probably still gonna be big but a big buuuut will be that it's most definitely gonna be less endearing and people wouldn't get as attached to it compared to today, and the game will stand-out less.
@B O ꓭ it would but you only feel the true minecraft experience when C418 music start to play. When you are chilling alone like you never did before, amaze by your shitty cobblestone house. But it doesnt matter because is your home and the sun is rising up for a new cubic day, maybe tomorrow you play minecraft with your friends, maybe not but you have something to build now that you end your house.
Maybe not the greatest forever (it's difficult but possible that someone better comes some day), but definitely for being the absolute legend that gave character to this masterpiece of a game

i played minecraft at my grandmother's in 2013. the music would play throughout her house for multiple hours every day. she still tells me almost 10 years later that it's one of her fondest memories of us at the house, and asked who the composer was because she liked it.
the thing I find sad is that most of the soundtracks he made for the game are no longer played in the game, alot of the alpha soundtracks aren't really heard anymore, or atleast have an extremely low chance of playing compared to the beta music and the new music coming with these new artists. Alpha is honestly the best soundtrack and I wish it played / played more in-game.
I remember when Steve was added to Smash Bros, and I was really upset that none of C418's music made the cut. Then someone replied to one of my many pessimistic tweets saying he did not want his music to end up in the clutches of Nintendo's Copyright ID data base, so Smash Bros' lack of Iconic Minecraft Music made a whole lot more sense.
That makes actual perfect sense, a shame nonetheless. But arguably I’d say I’m not sure that C418 should be the one to make the soundtrack for the smash game. Rather anyone else from the mess that it is now. Organised and respected mess of course ;d
This is why copyright laws need to be overhauled. To allow use of music without the unnecessary complexity of the current system. It's almost abusive...
When the song came on at 2:30 i got teary eyed... these are the moments that made Minecraft Minecraft! The nostalgic feelings, all that came from C418! Without this music, it would never be the same!
For me it's not only the music, which is minimalistic but interesting and progressive, it's the time of life I heard it and played the game. Back then I had so much less to worry about and would spend hours with friends playing Minecraft. Good times
Well guess what, C418 is getting to be a part of Billboard's music awards for Volume Alpha. I'm very happy to see that he finally gets an award for one of the greatest soundtracks of all time!
He made loads of music before, not much of it is online. He also wrote a few videogame soundtracks before Minecraft, although they were very small hobby projects and he doesn't publish those anymore.
I swear every time I hear the original soundtrack, I get hit with this nostalgia wave and mixed emotions, I get kinda sad that I wouldn't be able to play the game as a kid again. So many memories. I just wish to go back and play survival with my friends once more, this game really was my whole childhood
Same i almost feel depressed i dont want to hear it. It brings too many good memorys in mind but after growing up my friend group grew a part. I still remeber how the 7 of us would always play minecraft...
Good for c418, he's not letting microsoft take control of any of his hard work, that's admirable. It is such a shame that he won't be back to make more of it though. That... hurts.
Exactly what i was thinking. Notch might have ocastrated the game but it never would have been the hit it was without c418, he deserves a much bigger stake in it but alas microsoft would never accept that.
C418's music always felt melancholy, but in a good way. It brings back memories of playing with friends who have been offline for years. It's beautiful in its simplicity.
Who knows what's in that new album, that has apparently more tracks than Alpha and Beta. How impactful that would be. How much great Minecraft music we are missing. That's what worries me.
C418's style just holds high. It can be imitated, but not replicated. This proves how masterful it really is. May Microsoft one day change their minds. Please, we all want to hear what's been bottled up.
I would argue that C418 made minecraft and would actually bring more than the new artists. Not saying that the artists are bad mind you, just that when people hear the name C418, they instantly listen and enjoy. There isn't a single minecraft player who doesn't enjoy his music where as some people don't like pigstep, infinite amethyst etc

Its unfortunate that c418 is not with Minecraft anymore. He's undisputably a genius, and I can confidently say that his music, is Minecraft. Nobody can do it like him.
@bruh funny that sells their soul to microsoft for a quick buck. microsoft owes c418 everything for his impact and instead they just hire new shit artists
C418 said on twitter a couple years he was almost done working on the third minecraft album which was said to be longer than the length of alpha and beta combined. I've been so excited for it ever since I heard the aquatic update's music. I hope I can listen to it one day
His music has a magic to it. So many people from many paths of life have played minecraft and heard those songs, so they mean something different to everybody. For me, they're emotional because those melodies remind me of some of the best times of my life. I can't thank minecraft and C418 enough for that.
i had the pleasure of meeting daniel rosenfeld when he was staying with a friend of mine. he was open about struggling with severe anxiety and the recognition he received after composing the soundtrack. i was much younger back then and my presence had overwhelmed him to the point that he almost didn't come to speak with me. i really do hope he's doing better now
C418 did the right thing to keep the rights to his iconic music, and perfectly demonstrates the glaring issues in the intellectual property space and how badly its abused by megacorporate conglomerates.
i mean, yes, its not like the artists want their music to fall under somebody else's name. Lena wants their music to feel like it was made by Lena, and still be Minecraft, and the same with Kumi.
It's good they kept it in biome specific areas, meaning C418 is still the main theme, and any new additions won't take away anything from it, only adding parallel
very sad that the agreements didn’t work out for Dan, but his music stays iconic to the point that all the other composers just copy his style. the new music is alright but it will never be the same
C418's Minecraft music is one of the few playlists where I can listen to it at anytime and it brings me back to a calm, and content state of being. It sounds good, it feels good, and makes for some lovely background ambience
When I turn on the music I only hear a few tracks from him. Not all of them like back when I played on the ps3 and ps4. They've replaced it with gross new music that I hate. I need to figure out how to bring back the old music. But I'm on mobile. So it's in a separate folder. Resource packs don't work.
@@13_cmi I agree, I don’t like the music much. People were saying they really liked Lena Raine’s music because of how well it depicted the nether, and of course Kumi Tanioka. But their music holds absolutely zero emotional value. But C418’s music, you can tell he poured his heart and soul into it. C418’s music will always be levels and levels above any average composer’s music because of this.
I’m proud of Daniel for sticking to his guns. His music is an art form, and deserves to be treated as such and not given the corporate bullcrap that fells many creatives in their pursuit. I’ll always have a soft spot for his work, and if you guys want more C418 music then, well, listen to his other stuff. His other albums, especially One, 148, and Dief, are some of his best works yet underrated since its not Minecraft, so go show some love. Honestly, when I heard at the end that C418 owned the rights to all his music, I was happy for him. If he was replaced by someone else, but lost the rights to all of the music he made, it would've been a tragic end. Otherwise, good for him!
@@brunnomenxa TBF, C418 only got to keep rights to his music because Notch wasn't rich at the time of their deal. Him not wanting to sell his music isn't integrity or anything nice like that, just pride even though artists selling their music to game companies is a normal thing.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the new soundtracks. But that could be due to the emotions that come to surface when I hear those classic MC soundtracks.. So bittersweet.
I actually really like them. But, they do NOT bring the same nostalgia that C418s tracks do. Not even close. They are objectively good soundtracks, but they are not C418s soundtracks.
@@lunathecutest6652 Exactly. At the moment, though I love Lena's music, I prefer C418's. But after 5 years or so, when the former's starts to become more nostalgic, I'll love them both equally.
c418 did the absolutely insane but ultimately smart move i think. im sure he got offered microsoft millions and he straight up said "i own my work". he probably lost a shit load of money but he kept his integrity and we will always love him for that, aswell as the amazing soundtrack he produced. im confident in saying minecraft would not be as popular as it is today without the miraculous influence of c418's music. gg, cant wait to see if he makes more music. ownership of the things you make is a powerful tool if you have the right audience.
Also, If I'm correct on this, c418 is passively generating income simply because Minecraft still uses his music. since it isn't owned by microsoft. They are paying him either licensing fees or royalties to use the music. Which is probably why they didn't go forward with him as well, they have to fork over money to use it. I will say here though, I am not 100% sure about this and it's solely my interpretation of how I think the system works, I may be wrong with what I'm saying here.
I don't think Microsoft would've gotten to the point of offering him millions, it already made sense for them to ditch C418 when clearly there were creators who'd sign away their content for much less. Sad but it is what it is.
@@johnsappleseed Yeah people like Lean Raine would gladly be bought out for way less than what could be offered to c418 simply because a lot of people want recognition, especially if it's a game like Minecraft. Barely anybody knew about Lena Raine until Celeste and Minecraft. It's just that popular and lucrative.
I'm 100% in support of C418 being in complete control of his music. It's HIS art. And he ultimately built the tear-inducing soundtracks of MC. MS shot themselves in the foot with not being willing to work with him.
I think for Microsoft it's not a big problem to find new musicians, because money solves almost everything, but I agree that future minecraft soundtracks would be much better with C418
He's the one who chose to not be willing to work with them. He had weird ass requests that didn't make sense for a music artist. He basically didn't want people to know he made the music while still having the rights to it, dude was literally retarded and fucked himself out of millions because he thought he was gonna be famous and didn't want to be when he already is.

I’m glad he owns the music and not some money hungry corporation. Minecraft wouldn’t be Minecraft with out him. Thank you C418 for all your work. We hope to hear your music in other games in the future!
I agree but i do know why Mojang/Microsoft started going to other musicians for those who don’t know the reason why it’s because if Mojang wanted to do a Minecraft collaboration with a different game they can’t legally put in the C418 music and even if C418 agreed to allow his music in collaborations the other game company would not want it in there game sense it’s not legally owned by Microsoft and that opens up the possibility of lawsuits.
@@darth3911 Funny you mention this, because this is EXACTLY what happened with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate & the music that was added. That being said, I think that they might've contacted C418, but perhaps he declined to allow the team to create a fitting remix, hence why we don't have any songs from Minecraft itself.
I just want to say that C418’s “Excursions” is one of my favorite albums ever and everyone should go listen to it. (And also C418 recently did some music for Cookie Clicker!)

I don’t his music will be in the game for much longer honestly. Every update you hear C418’s music in-game a lot less frequently. I urgently suggest everybody to give some of C418's music outside of minecraft a listen, everything is an absolute masterpiece. He wasn't just hired because he was in the right place at the right time, mainly because he has talent.
Let this sink in: his Alpha Volume (all the survival tracks) is getting a super prestigious award from Billboard. That music is up there with the diamond tracks released in our history.
I personally think you’re spot on. This is precisely why I wasn’t happy when Microsoft acquired minecraft. I really don’t want Minecraft to feel corporate ya know
Unfortunately this seems common place same thing happened to two other legendary composers. Mick Gordon got screwed by Bethesda and Marti O’ Donnell got screwed by Activision.
@@Somethingaweful Eh, the Mick Gordon thing wasn't Bethesda's fault. Mick just never made all the songs he was supposed to on time, even though Bethesda gave him multiple delays. Trust me, Bethesda wanted Mick to do the soundtrack, but Mick didn't have that much interest it seems or just simply forgot. The fact that it came down to delaying the entire game just because it didn't have a soundtrack is indicative of Mick just doing the wrong thing. It's not black and white, but let's not act like Mick Gordon was innocent and betrayed when in reality he was given the full expenses and most leeway possible in the business just for him to not finish on time.
C418 Stal disc is my favourite by far, so many times my character has woken up only for me to make him listen to that song while still getting pumped about the silly drops that song has, will never fail to make me happy. I miss you C418
Just want to make it known that in-between and after Volume Alpha, Volume Beta, and the 1.13 singles, C418 never really disappeared. Its really anything but. Hes fairly active on twitter and still makes music (as far as I know). Hes made some absolutely incredible albums that have nothing to do with the Minecraft OST. If you want to check his stuff out Id recommend starting with Excursions and One.
The part where he says that when the music plays, doing a seemingly mundane task suddenly becomes more meaningful is what really got me. This is because this is very true. Whenever I played minecraft in the past, I turned off the music. But now, whenever I turn off the music it feels like a big part of what makes this game so special to me is missing.
yeah... especially when doing anything underground... the task feels more time consuming and is harder to accomplish... but when the song just pops in outa nowhere... all that tiredness goes away like my xp after grinding so hard on getting em
I’m a musician but, there is something about in game music that makes me immediately turn it off. Sadly this goes for Dan’s music as well. However, I do like to achieve/find the discs and play them in game.
man this takes me back, when i used to stay the night at my friend's house in 2014 we would play Minecraft, and c148 would come on and we would build big things like huge hotels, mansions, and we even made huge spiders and bugs. now i don't see them anymore because they have a life, having jobs and living at their own house. And this music reminds me of those memories.
I'll be honest, Microsoft should've just let C418 keep the rights to his music and let him keep working on Minecraft. It is truly sad, but I'm glad he is able to work on a new project. (Let's just hope Microsoft doesn't try and remove his music from Minecraft...)
They're slowly phasing out most of it. Reducing the chances of it playing with each update. Like how they're slowly phasing out (Java edition) in favor of Minecraft. Yes, Bedrock is sold as minecraft, but java edition is sold as an edition. Bedrock is the main character in the story now. Because unlike java edition, the xbox account has less rights than the old mojang accounts. It allows them to sell you skins, datapacks, worlds, ect. Opening up microtransactions in game. That's Microsoft for you, what once was free will no longer be. Slowly phase out Java, but promise they're not going to. They're just manipulating new players into abandoning it so that the OG minecrafters will just die out.
Im my opinion some music can/should be biome specific but most should stay as being random. I love just randomly hearing minecraft music while playing. I support the new artists as their music is phenomenal! I hope that mojang doesn't make too many biome/place specific music, but a few here and there isn't that bad.

I like the idea of biome specific music in this case, I'd never want each biome to have its own soundtrack, but a couple rare soundtracks for special areas like a flower field or mushroom biome or what they did in caves and clifs seems ok to me, almost like a little Easter egg for finding it
Yeah cause as far as I could tell in game the other tracks still played in the meadow biomes and whatnot, it's just that the biome specific ones could *only* play in their own biome. I think it adds variety and a certain vibe to the biomes which is much needed. It's just a scaled down version of the nether and the end
Yeah, but it gets really annoying if you actually want to live in that biome. That's why I'm ultimately against the non- random music. It's only nice the first few times you hear it.
@@steamingpileofspaghetti9755 can’t other tracks still be played in the biome though? It’s just that the biome’s unique track is only playable in that biome, and not other biomes.

@@noahstrine8161 pigstep doesn't really bring that nostalgic kind of feel. The new tracks such as pigstep other side and all the ambient 1.16+ music is a vibe to say the least. The new music being biome specific might be the reason why it doesn't pack the same punch as other tracks such as Sweden and mice on venus makes mundane tasks actually fun. I have to say tho lena and kumi really blew it away with the music.
Great video! Another great thing about C418 is that very soundtrack at "The End" area are slowed down compared to the overworld area. The thing is, I _want_ it to work universally. Thats the thing about c418’s music, it works everywhere. Heck, why not just release the new Minecraft music volume as a standalone track without the name on it. As players we can just put it into the game ourselves.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Smash Bros. None of C418's tracks were included with the Minecraft DLC. There's a lot of speculation C418 refused to have his music in the game, and that's part of what pushed Microsoft to find new composers who'd outright sell the music rights.
If Mojang had the choice, they'd absolutely put more c418 music in. However Microsoft is the issue, being a big company and all who wants to have ownership of the music before using it for anything since they don't wanna ask c418
To be fair, none of the tracks from the original Minecraft made it into the game whether they were composed by C418 or not so I doubt that has too much bearing on the situation
To be fair I do remember Sakurai saying that since most of Minecraft’s iconic music(mostly c418’s work) is calm and relaxing, it wouldn’t fit within smash bros. Now if that is true, then it makes some sense, but then again I’m pretty sure that not all music in smash isn’t calm and relaxing.

I just hope Microsoft doesn't remove the music after adding enough disc's to warrant taking away tracks. I know it would not fly with the community, but Microsoft is greedy enough.
I think that they may take it away in the Bedrock Edition but leave it in the Java Edition for much longer since a lot of the Java community will be much angrier about that than a lot of the Bedrock community
Wish they’d come to some sort of agreement. I’m still pained to this day that none of C418’s music made it into smash ultimate, likely due to this copyright situation.

The echoed piano that doesn't sound like it was recorded on a studio but rather feels like it's coming from someone's living room is my favorite. I really think Kumi is better at getting the C418 feel than Lena. Ill be honest, there's really only two or three tracks I actually like that are by Lena but the others are mostly inoffensive.
Yeah, while i like Pigstep and Otherside it certainly doesn't have the same feel as the iconic Mc music. Kumi's music fits seamlessly with C418's classic tracks
At the end, its not the same, its other thing. The music of new artists is good, this is a agreement, but the C418 music will not be replaced at all, cannot be recreated, this is not bad at all, will be 2 eras of minecraft in the soundtrack history. The Classic Minecraft Music - Include old disks, background musics and more The New Minecraft Music - new artists, disks, background musics and more
I don’t think Lena is trying to go for the same feel as C418 at all, which I am perfectly fine with. While I would also have been fine with keeping the music only to C418’s, I also feel like with how expansive and colourful Minecraft has gotten, keeping the OST to a single "colour" is kind of a missed opportunity. Please note that my point has nothing to do with making the tracks biome-specific. That’s an entirely different matter that isn’t really related to Lena and Kumi’s music.
I agree. I respect Lena Raine’s work, especially in Celeste, the emotion and feeling she puts into it warrants calling it art, but I just can’t get the Minecraft feel out of her music. To me, it just doesn’t fit in with the tone of the game. Kumi is a step in the right direction, I believe, and while it’s not the same as C418, it does feel more “‘Minecraft” than anything Lena has made so far. Again, love her work, it just doesn’t capture the feeling that C418’s music does for me.

Well, big companies are terrible. They probably gave him an ultimatum that he had to give them all rights to his music or something else he didn't agree with. It's understandable that he'd want to keep ownership of his own music. And yes it's really sad and I wish there was another way but I'd prefer him not to do something he wouldn't like.
While the new music sounds great when I heard C418s music my whole body had shivers, I even thought I was going to bawl. C418s music is so good that when Minecraft gets its final update, I’m hoping C4 comes back to work on one final track to say goodbye.
Im glad a big youtuber finally spoke of this, us composers tend to get screwed up a lot and there's not much we can do about it as our work goes unnoticed most of the time. Thanks Salc1!
When I first started Minecraft, I was young, and didn't know that C418 was the composer of Minecraft's music. When I saw "-C418" at the end of each music disc, I thought, maybe that's the kind of disc the music is in, or something like that. His name was so deeply embedded into the game, that I never even gave it a second thought. When Pigstep came out, and didn't say C418, but said Lena Raine, I was quite surprised. I had heard Lena's name before, from Celeste's soundtrack, and it took me just a bit longer to realize all C418 did for Minecraft, and for us.
Minecraft isn't Minecraft without C418 he's the guy wo made me fell in love with Minecraft only cause of his music i got peace in Minecraft eventhough Microsoft hires too costly or top composers but for us og players C418 will be the god of Minecraft music till eternity its sad seeing his legacy fade away but im happy that he gave us some beautiful memories we will never forget
C418 will forever hold a special place in players hearts. I'd love to see Daniel, and Lena, and Kumi all making music for minecraft. They are each amazing composers, and great music makes the game come alive!
Kumi Tanioka was a student of Nobuo Uematsu, she self-taught her style by listening to alot of the music of Final Fantasy games. She even wrote the soundtracks for the Crystal Chronicles spinoffs to that series. She's actually very prolific and important and I'm surprised that so few people know her work. She's a very good fit for the Minecraft OST imo, probably better than Lena Raine. That's not to say they're not both excellent musicians, I'm just far more familiar with Tanioka :)
its a shame she had to give in to Microsoft owning her songs though. honestly this practice no matter how common is kinda garbage and its really giving composers the short end of the stick. c418 deserves ownership of his songs and so do Lena and kumi
@@xdMatthewbx Oh they absolutely do man. The thing is that Kumi and Lena are probably comfortable in this arrangement because Kumi is used to Square Enix owning all her music and Lena is trying to make a name for herself in the VGM scene. Artists do deserve to own the music they make, I 100% agree though
@@Vextrove No, it definitely is a bad thing. As a creator (artist, musician, animator, etc) you become attached to what you create. You don't just slap something together and ship it off. To make something of real substance you put your heart and soul into it. It becomes a part of you. So then if you sell the rights to it, it's like having that piece of you ripped out and taken away forever. Want to go back and make a redux of a song you wrote? Better hope the soulless multibillion dollar corporation lets you touch it. Because it's not yours anymore.
@@Vextrove you don't have to have anything. its what you should be able to have. this is a predatory practice on Microsoft's part and I respect c418 for standing up for himself. no ownership, no music. he deserves to own what he makes as do Lena and kumi. you don't need to breathe, you just deserve to be able to as without that you'll die. not exactly the same thing but the point is nothing is needed. some things are deserved though and I strongly believe this is deserved
2:14 that moment right here, when the music kicked in, plus the commentary, made a huge smile on my face and i almost got tears in my eyes. That was insanely on point and combined with a huge wave of nostalgia made me almost cry. Damn, I love this game so much
I LOVE that he owns 100% of the rights. I'm sure Microsoft has tried to buy him out with huge sums of money but the fact that he didn't take any deal like that is SO badass. He knows his value and no army of lawyers and executives can change that. Bravo my man.
I've listened to some of the non-Minecraft tracks on his YT page and can confidently say nostalgia isn't what's making the new music feel a bit foreign to me. He has a very distinct and memorable style. The new music ain't bad though, just a bit of an adjustment.

I noticed that, too. That the music is location specific. I was building in a savanna a while ago and heard the same two songs on repeat, and with sadness, I had to turn off the music before it got annoying.
The fact that an entire generation could recognize these songs instantly is just incredible.
Maybe even 2 generations mmm more like 1.5
@B O ꓭ Probably still gonna be big but a big buuuut will be that it's most definitely gonna be less endearing and people wouldn't get as attached to it compared to today, and the game will stand-out less.

The fact that it came down to delaying the entire game just because it didn't have a soundtrack is indicative of Mick just doing the wrong thing.

The part where he says that when the music plays, doing a seemingly mundane task suddenly becomes more meaningful is what really got me. This is because this is very true. Because unlike java edition, the xbox account has less rights than the old mojang accounts. It allows them to sell you skins, datapacks, worlds, ect. Opening up microtransactions in game. That's Microsoft for you, what once was free will no longer be.

Its not so much that - its that it was forced, not natural and certainly not built/well thought out.
Yes, or combining both.
Yeah, but it gets really annoying if you actually want to live in that biome. That's why I'm ultimately against the non- random music. It's only nice the first few times you hear it.

I've listened to some of the non-Minecraft tracks on his YT page and can confidently say nostalgia isn't what's making the new music feel a bit foreign to me. He has a very distinct and memorable style. The new music ain't bad though, just a bit of an adjustment.
the new musics for me are just a little bit our of touch but just enough where you wouldn't even noticed it when doing some works in minecraft
Check out his album "One". It's the most Minecraft sounding of his non Minecraft music
I thought its still c418 until this video.. then i was super upset
@@claptivity ... welp... all legends will one day become a fairytale... or history...
Step 1. Get c418 to release that finished album
Step 2. Make resource pack with the new songs
Step 3. Profit
C418 leaving is like a family member dying without you saying goodbye, we will all miss his music and creating our childhoods with music we never knew would be so nostalgic
edit: ngl ever since c418's music played i can still imagine his name written on every world minecraft makes, from just being wood-stone-leaves and grass, to now having biomes, mountains, more wood types and beds
I noticed that, too. That the music is location specific. I was building in a savanna a while ago and heard the same two songs on repeat, and with sadness, I had to turn off the music before it got annoying.
Uhm theres no location specific tracks for the savannah biome. Do you know which track it was
