- Pulling Umbreon VMAX Alternate Art Secret Rare from Evolving Skies - Pokemon TCG
When I got back into collecting Pokemon in 2021, there was only one card on my list that I wanted to pull instead of buying as a single. With each set, I set a limit of how many packs I'll open before stopping and then buying the other cards I want as singles, so I don't waste my money. But not Moonbreon. This one needed to be pulled. 17 booster boxes, two 144 ct single blister cases, about 50 packs from other collection boxes and tins, and about 250 packs purchased from PokemonCenter.com in May (which I've had INSANE luck with, pulling either a secret rare or alt art V every 1 in 10 packs), and it finally happened. I've been dreaming of this day for 7 months, and now I can finally stop opening Evolving Skies!
I record pack openings for personal use, but since I open so many packs I recently decided why not upload a few of the big hits? Quality has gotten better since I began recording openings (I won't even share those because the quality is so poor), and should be better in the future as I get a better microphone do more than super basic edits. I feel so bad watching this, knowing that earlier my husband and I pulled the alt art Umbreon VMAX from three Evolving Skies boosters. We didn't even know it was worth anything, because we haven't bought cards in years. Insane luck on our end, but so stoked to see you were able to finally get one!
I did the same thing bought 3 pack first lvl the espeon with the books an the sec pack had the umbreaom Vmax an Ik it’s a ten sent it in already both cards were mint gems boy the binders almost done
Crazy! It was a ton of fun opening packs of Evolving Skies and worth the journey, not to mention I stocked up on booster box cases when booster boxes were $95 and still have a bunch leftover in storage that I'll sell someday to recoup what I spent on the packs I opened! Cheers!

Smart move buying it! With every other Pokemon card, I'll buy the single of if I don't pull it within the set amount of packs I plan to open for a set (I always set limits on how many packs I'll open for fun before stopping and buying the cards I want), but with this particular card, probably my favorite card of all time, I wasn't going to stop until I pulled it just so I could get my reaction on camera and re-watch it from time to time. Umbreon is my favorite because it reminds me of my black cat, Dr. Fink. Why is Umbreon your favorite, Nate?
@@gregdoh Instantly became my favorite upon Gold and Silver release back in the day. I love the design and evolution mechanic. Umbreon suits my personality well too.
@@RocketVet I wish I would have still been into Pokemon when Gold and Silver came out. I had Blue and Yellow, then many years of not being into Pokemon. Did you ever watch the animated series? I stopped after Indigo League, but now I want to watch an episode or two with Umbreon!

To put this number of packs into perspective that is approximately 33 booster boxes with each box containing 36 booster packs.

Man I’ve been wanting this card so bad! I’m like you where I really really really want to pull one from the pack myself, but I’ve slowly come to the realization that it would be much more efficient to just trade for it. Seeing all these ungodly pull rates on this bad boy is just unreal. I’ve managed to pull two alt art sylveon v’s (out of like 100 packs give or take) luckily but this still eludes me: awesome pull man just got a new subscriber 👍
Thank you!! This was the only card in modern Pokemon that I "needed" to pull so I could get it on camera. For every other set I usually only open 50-100 packs for fun, then buy the singles I want since that's almost always the most cost-effective thing to do. So I'm with you! Trade for it! And enjoy it!!
just buy it cause 1200 packs to get this is 5000 dollars..
@@cj1613 Agreed! I only paid about $2.65 per pack (stocked up Dec 2021 when booster boxes were under $95). And fortunately I've been able to break even by selling duplicates and bulk from the set. I would never recommend anyone open packs to pull their chase cards unless they have a plan for how to make their money back or equate the "fun" factor into the equation, because just like gambling in a casino, "the house always wins".

@@gregdoh oh no unfortunately. I was 5 days into collecting and wasn’t expecting much. Was just trying to have fun and see what Pokémon would end up in my binders. I now know… to film everything. But the thing is… I have a feeling that was it for me haha. I doubt I’ll be getting anymore big pulls after that!
I pulled that card last year and all I did was buy 1 pack at Target I believe it came with 2 packs and a little hand held binder.

@@gregdoh i only opened like 100 boosters of evolving skies, only got a few good pulls. most boosters ive ever bought for a set was for the unbroken bonds and team up sets
@@theboss5780 Both really fun sets, which I missed out on as I just got back into the hobby in the fall of 2021. I usually set a limit between 50-300 packs depending on the set.
I love that this took me 3 packs to pull from my broken pull rate case of the sleeved boosters. Still got 18 left. The pull rates on my case are seemingly 1 secret per 2-3 packs

Thanks! I haven't yet. I've been waiting for the recent hype to die down just a little bit more before sending cards in for grading.
I just pulled one of these from a ES booster pack from Walmart. Any recommendations on who to grade it with?
Congrats!! Grading is a bit personal preference, and I have yet to grade any of my cards. I planned to learn more about grading and get the cards I want to grade sent out in 2023. I would only send them to one of the big 3: Beckett, PSA, or CGC. Watch a few UA-cam videos about grading Pokemon cards. I think that just like collecting, as you learn more about grading you'll figure out the companies you want to use, get a better idea of what cards to send in, figure out the best time to send them in to get the most bang for your buck (they all seem to run sales at various times), etc. Good luck!

We used to pull rares and holos out of packs from base set and take them to school and sell them for 3,4 and 5 dollars thinking we were hustlers lol if only we would of known better. Big congrats on the pull, I adore my umbreon vmax alt art cards definitely my favorite of all time

@@boomfuq8277 ha, that's exactly what I did- 2 sisters, threw one holo at a time and watched them fight over them, some probably got very damaged. At least it was fun at the time, just like selling those holos for you was probably awesome at that time!

@@abbeystackhouse9562 I pulled that one really early in my evolving skies openings (not a Ray ray fan though!), but it was when I was recording my openings at home and didn't plan on ever uploading them, so the quality is bad and my reaction is quiet because my girlfriend was in the other room. Best of luck if you are still cracking Evolving Skies packs! Otherwise, seems like prices are down a bit right now and might be a good time to buy the single again.

It was a lot of fun and no money was lost, BUT, pulling it in 60 packs would have been better. Congrats to you! I feel for the people who are still opening Evolving Skies since prices on packs are $4+ now.

I just noticed that you pulled your Umbreon out of an Duralodon pack ! So finally it’s a myth that you only can pull a specific card from a specific design pack, like for example Lugia 1st edition can only be pulled from Lugia packs which now I can see that is actually not true at all
Ha! Yup, similar to when some people say that all the hits are in certain product because of their own personal experience. No, it's almost always random, unless someone messes up and we end up with the rare situations like the Fusion Strike God booster boxes.
I sold my shadowless Charizard at a garage sale for $20 in 2001.
At least you got some money for it! I gave away all my shadowless base set, 1st edition fossil an d1st edition jungle holos. To go back in time to get those cards back...

I started researching my old x’s, ex’s, promos, and all the rare hollows I had from collecting as a kid. Come to find out my shiny palkia goes for 124 bucks. The rest came out to be around 200 worth of cards, but they’re too beat to sell. I pulled this Moonbreon after my brother bought me a 5 pack Tin with 2 packs of Evolving Skies last week. They were my first cards since I was a kid! We went back for more and got a glaceon alt art worth 150 right now, pretty crazy.

That's amazing! I had a ton of fun with Evolving Skies and even though I opened so many packs I ended up actually making money selling doubles, bulk, etc. It was worth it!

@@gregdoh facts man the only place i can even get packs at retail or lower are them divergent power tins and the new back to school packs, other than that ive literally opened 5-6 hundred packs and pulled 1 alt art v umbreon, i think id cry at this point if i pulled the vmax, youre reaction is the most genuine ive seen on yutube and the story behind it made it so much more rewwarding i bet lol
@@DonnieEls I'm glad there are still ways to get Evolving Skies packs at retail. Is the Umbreon V alt the only alt you've pulled? Or just the only Umbreon alt you've pulled? In my first 900 packs I pulled 12 alt arts, then in my last 315 packs I pulled 13 alt arts- crazy lucky pull rates on those last 315 packs. I definitely don't want to encourage you to keep opening them until you pull it, but I'm rooting for ya!!

@@DonnieEls OOf... yeah, that's horrible. Sorry. I banked on the fact that I pulled enough alt art doubles to sell to help fund opening more packs. I don't know how you haven't thrown the towel in yet. I stopped opening Fusion Strike after opening 100 packs and my best pull was a regular Gengar Vmax. Evolving Skies has so many awesome alt arts though that it makes it more fun than any other Sword and Shield set to open so many packs to chase those alts.

I just started collecting cards around Christmas time 2022 and I found Evolving Skies here in my home town and I pulled the MoonBreon today. I was definitely feeling the Evolving Cries effect not getting anything until bammm. After 25 Packs I pulled it and Now idk what to do with the rest of my Evolving Skies packs left over. (20 packs) I'm thinking of Giving away the sealed booster packs out the the kids here in my small town. The Next kid Pokémon fan I see gets it.

A masters set is around 3.5k It's not horrible for the experience to open it yourself tbh
Ha, thank you! It was getting out of hand! But, I spent about $2.90 per pack on the first 900 or so packs (bought most product in Dec when prices were low), and $4.22 per pack on the last 315 so not AS BAD as that! (just under $4k total) Plus, I made back over $1k selling duplicates already, still have some duplicates to grade and sell, and also have a bunch of sealed booster boxes I paid $92 each for back in Dec when prices were low that I'll sell in a few years and use the profits to recoup the rest of what I spent back. I'd vomit if I straight up spent $6k on a $300 card! For me, it was the most fun set I ever opened, so even if I don't come out on top (which I already know I will unless Pokemon crashes VERY hard) it was still worth it!
(I'm really just explaining all this in case someone comes across this comment and wants a little more insight so they don't foolishly open pack after pack trying to chase cards for every set. For example, for Brilliant Stars my limit was 300 packs. The only card I didn't pull that I wanted was alt Zard, so I'm just going to buy the single instead of trying to chase it.

No, I usually prefer booster boxes just because they are slightly less wasteful, but for sets where I plan to open a lot of packs I like variety and usually open 1 144 ct sleeved booster pack case along with booster boxes and other products. The only reason I opened so many sleeved packs for Evolving Skies was because that's all that was available to buy for a while.

Nope, just completed my mission of pulling Moonbreon! I try to mention in all of my video descriptions that I'm not a UA-camr and just post a few videos for fun from time to time. He passed away in the spring of 2021. He had an amazing life though, spending a lot of his time outside with me gardening and snuggled up in bed next to my face at night. He was amazing, and we never had another incident of him panting after that one time as I made sure to keep a better eye on him outside on very hot days. Thank you for asking!

Me and my parents moved when i was about 10 and i had all my old pokemon cards i had all the old original ones alot of lvl x's and my top fav was gold star groudon but my parents gave all of my cards and alot of my toys away cus they said i was too old for it and they didnt want it in the new place wich still makes me very sad but awesome video love the reaction love that card amazing
Aw, sorry to hear. That's the story for so many people. I was lucky that I kept all my childhood toys, video games, and Pokemon cards and my parents didn't care. I hope you get to buy some of the stuff and cards you used to have someday from Ebay or other marketplaces!

Damn, only recently stared opening eve skies after they stop reprinting them. I think I might have opened ed less than 50 packs and found a Moonbreon in one of those knockout boxes. I feel so lucky for pulling one.
Congrats! I'm glad you pulled one after only 50 packs! I can't imagine opening packs of Evolving Skies at their current market price per pack. Most of the packs I opened were from booster boxes when prices were $90 per box and 144 count blister cases when they were $415, so I was paying about $2.50-$2.90 per pack. It was such a fun set to open though!

My god that's horrendous! I know someone who only opened about 3,000 packs and pulled 5 of them. If you're opening English 151, enjoy it and best of luck! At least the pull rates shouldn't be as crazy as Evolving Skies and a few of the other Sw&Sh sets.

@@03_Degen I opened 80 packs of 151 so far, and although it's fun, I'm about done with the set already. First set I've opened any packs of since Crown Zenith. Pulled one last night I dont open boxes I put them in acrylic cases to collect I noticed a rip on my evolving skies booster box so was useless to seal in a case and just opened it and pulled umbreon vmax alt art this was the only box I have and only 1 I opened how lucky was i, can't believe it 🤣
Opening product is never smart if your #1 goal is to get the most bang for your buck, but it's fun once in a while, and if you receive a damaged sealed product, might as well rip it! Congrats!!! Also, I love a good sealed booster box collection! They look awesome on display in cases.

@@cashyf I've been wanting to pick up one booster box of Eevee Heroes to do the same with, keep sealed, but I'm hoping we see a slight price decrease with the reprint of them in September (wishful thinking- I should just buy ONE box now then another if prices do indeed drop a bit).

Buying singles is the way to go with Pokemon TCG. Opening packs can be fun, but it's gambling and the house always wins if you play long enough. (there are strategic ways to break even or profit from opening packs though, which I did with Evolving Skies)

Literally bought Pokémon cards for the first time in over 10 + years. Pulled a rainbow v star charizard and a v max alt artwork umbreon. They’re both in sleeves and I’m not sure what to do with them for now lol

Ah, nothing like pulling all the other alts except for the best one in the set! I never pulled Golurk V alt or Leafeon Vmax alt, but I just bought both last week for $150 total. Sell some of your doubles and buy the ones you need! Moonbreon price just continues to rise. I wish I would have bought a couple of them when they were $200

I don't know anything about other languages except Japanese, unfortunately, and it's not too easy to find info on other languages. And are you sure it's real?

No you didnt. With a hit rate of 1 in 2200 packs this is an utter lie. No way 3 where stacked up ontop of eachother within 50 packs lol
@@muddatruckergaming Who said they stacked up on top of each other, LMAO. 30 blister packs were from 2 different walmart and 1 target. Booster box was from LCS fresh case.
It's crazy I had a booster box to keep sat there for 6 months noticed a rip in it so I opened the box and pulled 1 of these couldn't believe it ,I sent it away to beckett and they lost my card got a pristine 10 with 9.5 on corners was only a 0.5 away from a black label . It's fed ex who has aparantly lost my card so I'm claiming through insurance well beckett is claiming it for me I will never grade with them again 1st time I grade a card and that happened
Your story started off so happy then took a horrible turn. Congrats and sorry to hear! I've been buying and selling things online since 2003 and also run a brick and mortar business, and I've rarely ever had any issues with UPS or USPS but have had so many with FedEx over the years that I do my best not to use them, and wish companies that sell high end items would not use FedEx. I hope it truly is just lost and wasn't stolen by an employee, and randomly shows up in your mailbox weeks or months from now. Right before seeing your comment here I was reading through a post on the Pokemon World FB group where a guy got a Black Label Umbreon and in some of the comments there were people talking about them being the most strict for grading (which is good) but also having the worst quality control. That being said, it sounds like a FedEx issue you are dealing with and I'm really hoping it magically shows up in your mailbox soon! I'd be stoked for a BGS pristine 10!
@@gregdoh thanks for advice mate it has been lost since Aug sep time I'm going to just use psa from now ? Whats the prices on psa for around 20 cards or more would you know best place to send them I paid beckett 150 for 1 card but sure psa is cheaper thanks pal and happy new year
@@cashyf_88 oh, dang, that's a long time already. Did you at least get paid back from the insurance of the card? I've actually never sent cards in for grading and I'm not really sure who I would use. I would use Beckett if I had a card that I thought could be a black label candidate (extremely rare though), but between the big 3, Beckett, PSA and CGC, I'm not sure who I would use. It seems that all of them have pros and cons and opinions on which is best varies greatly. PSA seems to be the most popular though. Sometime this year I may send my alt arts in for grading, but I'll likely watch a bunch of youtube videos from people who have a lot of experience with grading before I decide which company to get them graded by. @@gregdoh yea but told bgs not to send it to my old card but I was ignored and they sent it to a old closed account so abit pissed off about that too that they ignored my request lol I nearly had a black label 0.5 away on 1 Sub grade as I asked what grade I got once it was lost I'm checking ebay to see the numbers on graded card to see if someone is trying to sell if its been stolen too cheers for advice mate
