    Cool video thanks for sharing.I did my 2005 tahoe with 3 bench seats it is also a 9 seater with only 3 rows . i used the middle seat from a 2002 2500hd work truck for the front picked it up at local salvage yard for 30$ and my z71 had 2nd row captain seats i removed for the optional 60/40 bench i salvaged from a local yard for 50$ so for a lil time and money any gm suv can be converted to 9 or up to 12 with the burban and ext escalade.

    • @alankingdesign
      @alankingdesign  7 років тому +1

      Hi Troy. Thanks for asking. I don't have measurements. I could get you some if your using the exact same seats and brackets as I did. In the video, I screwed my brackets to a piece of plywood. Placed that on the floor then put my seats in place to lock them on the brackets. I checked my clearance to insure the back hatch still closes and kids had a little foot room. You can use longer bolts and 1/2" or 3/4" galvanized pipe nipples over them, to raise the back of the seats up a little. This gave my kids a little more foot room. Just remember that your seats will sit the thickness of plywood lower when installed. The plywood can be used as a template to get the holes in the exact spot needed. Double check under the car to make sure you don't drill into a hose or something. Adjust bracket placement if needed. Hope this helps.

      Trevor Felt that’s a good question. It would be uncomfortable but possible for adults to sit back there. They would have to sit side saddle. I’ve put younger teenagers back there for short trips and they complain of no feet or leg room. My 4 and 6 yr old think it’s the best seat in the car. J.S.R. Gaming x thanks for watching and the comment. Getting rear ended is a real possibility. Space on side impacts are even worse for everyone. I made it as safe and legal as possible to work with our family size and the vehicle we have. I'm one to be aware of safety and risk, but not live in fear of what if's. I grew up going on road trips in the back of a 78' Suburban with 6 kids in the back with no seat belts playing cards and our Game Boy. Today everyone is wearing a seat belt. We've used it for over 3 years now and it's worked out great!

      Hi Slick Vic. Search eBay for "tahoe 3rd row seat brackets" by custom_manufacturing. He offers a couple different options depending on the seats you are able to get.

      The seats are bolted to the floor. I don't see the issue.

      Michael Sullivan Still illegal, and I doubt you can pass inspection.

    • @alankingdesign
      @alankingdesign  7 років тому +26

      I pass inspection without any issues. Seats are bolted to the floor and has proper seat belts. I feel this is just as good or better than aftermarket seats you can add to your car.
      Rear end collisions is an issue and I appreciate the concern. I can see it similar to a side impact collision with passengers inches from the door in any car. The 4th row typically only fit in LARGE SUV's. Anyone doing this will have to weigh the risks, pros, cons and local laws for themselves.

      In states where occupants need to be in a seat with restraints, makes it 100% LEGAL to mount seats in the bed of an open pickup truck.

    Esv should be comfortable for 4th row attachment

  • @davidjones7177
    @davidjones7177 9 років тому

    Thanks for this. I'm hoping to do something like this. I have a custom built 4th row already, but I don't like it (too small and uncomfortable, and it only has lap belts so we can't put the smaller kids who fit back there better in booster seats in there).
    As I've tested this (by pulling the existing third row back) I'm concerned bout feet room still. Can you tell me if this is an issue for your 7 and 10 year old?
    David

    • @a007king
      @a007king 9 років тому +3

      My 7 and 10 Year old don't complain of feet room yet. It is still tight. I gained more room by raising the back brackets of the seats up with a bushing. It gave me another couple of inches by doing this. By raising the back up it also pushes the seat back a little and still allows the back door to close.

      Hi Adrian. I'm not a professional seat guy and not sure if that will work or not. GM did a refresh on the Tahoe in 2007 model year. You would have to do some more research on that. Good Luck!

    Hey what if u install 2 seats in the back facing each other that's enough room right

    • @alankingdesign
      @alankingdesign  6 років тому +1

      Quan White I checked this and it will not work. The seats I have won’t work face to face. The release is on the rear of the seat and wouldn’t allow clearance to remove seat. Also the seat fronts would be touching face to face, allowing no leg room. Another smaller seat might work? Hope this helps.

    • @quanwhite2125
      @quanwhite2125 6 років тому

      Alan King there's no way to pull the other seats foward an it probably could if I have smaller seats like the seats that come in a 2 door truck or sum

The kids in the back can clime in and out through the back window hatch. Thanks for watching. I should make a video on the luggage box.
