  • Dr. Platt and his colleague, Professor Lage, coined the phrase “inverted classroom”, to move active learning into the classroom and lecture outside of class. In this highly interesting talk, Dr. Platt will be showing how Higher Ed’s not the in the business you think it is.
Dr. Platt has been Director of Miami University’s Interactive Media Studies Program since 2000 and founded the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies. He is President Emeritus of the International Digital Media and Arts Association and along with his colleague Prof. Lage, coined the phrase “inverted classroom” with a 2000 seminal work outlining the benefits of using technology to move active learning into the classroom and lecture outside of class. His 2012 SXSW presentation with Peg Faimon has helped frame the conversation around the future of higher education. He has won a variety of teaching awards from the students, the school of business, and the university. He received his Bachelor of Arts from University of Florida and his MS and PhD from Carnegie Mellon University.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

This is great presentation. It really makes you think about what business different companies are really in.

ATTN Editors….I would really like to share this video but it still carries the previous mix-up title on 'Coffee' when I attempt to. Would you correct please?

Yeah, but the problem is that education is actually in the business of maintaining current power and class structures. Learning is just a by-product, that is conveniently defined by the institution....

More that educational institutes have there own self interests ie keeping there lights on and on brighter if possible whether there the most effective way of learning or not. Education it's self is just people learning things.
