FloridaFlying - there is risk with anything one does in life. If you perform these flights and have identified and planned the mitigation procedures and briefed everyone onboard of what to expect and who will perform the mitigation’s then these flights fall within the FAA guidelines. Now if you just want to, say, take an A5 Sea Plane, fill your body with methamphetamines, a little Opioids, sleeping pills, some anxiety medications then top it off with a few beers then decide to pull off a few high-speed low level passes along with a few high “G” 60 degree bank angle turns then maybe you’ll be headed for some serious deadly outcomes but when planned correctly you can operate the aircraft within the envelop it was designed to operate in. You can’t plane for every situation and I would be worried about bird strikes at low level flight over these waters but with the prop & engine behind your the chance of birds rousting up into the air will be lower due to this aircrafts design. I’m not sure but I would want to take a flight over these waters at least once. I’m not sure if I would make a second pass but I believe you can make a single pass with minimal disturbance to the wildlife and do it safely!
cia212 - because of a baseball legend they didn’t want to release the truth about the possible cause. Baseball has more money than the A5 company. Even when AvWeb did their review Paul only briefly touched at the very end of his assessment that there were traces of methamphetamines in his system. But the coroner’s first report came out right after the accident it reported there were 10x’s the lethal dose of meth for a person of his weight. That report was pulled immediately from the web. They said they were protecting the family. Yea the baseball family! Don’t want to let people know that one of their star pitchers are hurling 100mph fastballs while the possibility of using meth? As classic to stories of Southern Florida in the early '80s I won my flight lessons through solo by recovering stolen property. It was stolen from the Flight School by a disgruntled employee. The whole of the MacDonald detective scenario was lived out through accusations that I had stolen the life raft to make the pilot look bad. My time was primarily done in a Tomahawk though I have been allowed to fly a good variety of planes and even the DC 6. That thin wing on the Tomahawk made me a conservative pilot. When flying at night they tell you to land in the darkest spots should the engine fail since those are pond and lakes. In the water upside down is pretty likely. I thought the FAA said you had to fly no lower than allowed for a landing. Typically below 500 feet is not it.
At 3:03 the salesman said a lie. Also his radio calls are low end. All runways at DeLand are active. He is not taking that runway anywhere. Its a simple statement "DeLand Traffic, #, takingoff runway three zero, DeLand Traffic"
A bit of a thrill with it in ground effect for most of the flight, but you also want to be pretty sure there's next to no risk of the engine going out for that kind of flying.

Not worth risking your lives over in my opinion. I would not fly with that pilot but thats because I dont see a need to take extra risks. Nice little plane though!
How is that confusing? Every fixed pitch aircraft is the same. Aside from the elevator, engine speed controls climbing and descent. Keep the elevator neutral and kill the engine power and you will go down. 😂
As fun as it looks, you are so right. If a bird unexpectedly shoots up from those bushes, they've had it! That being said, If it were me, I'd still do it. Stuff like this gives you stories to tell the grandkids on your rocking chair in your old age. Wouldn't make a practice of it though.
@@neatstuff8200 Not so sure that it was weeds... probably mostly swamp - being Florida. Not much abandoned machinery or logs in the swamp. Of course, a good down draft and you are having a very bad day.
@@nathanielcohen9890 Which is not necessarily the best scenario. Low flying is risky for a reason. In this case, you find the ground at a very high ground speed and with the landing gear up, with the risk of hitting one of the floats and end up spinning. You may have enough momentum to trade speed for a.bit of altitude, but not necessarily. My question was for the pilot, who seems to be experienced enough to give a technically correct answer.
Do you buys ride a motorcycle? If so you would think nothing of passing another vehicle coming from the opposite direction at a closing speed of possibly 200kph(that’s 120 mph)OR MORE! at a gap of less than six feet, one after the other, mile after mile, with a possible drug/alcohol affected idiot controlling every one of them. This looked pretty tame to me in comparison and yes I am a pilot and yes I do ride.
XB10001 what do you mean, So? A life lost or maimed on a motorcycle is a different one? Aviation safety was regulated to begin with because of the potential for harm to those of us on the ground. A falling aircraft could potentially harm uninvolved citizens because of it’s ability to drop on us from anywhere. As with all regulation the ‘fun police’ get involved and it has evolved into an exercise in ever increasing blanket control under the guise of protecting us from ourselves. The man put up a disclaimer and he and his passenger knew the risks. They were operating in a place where the public were safe from their actions and it looked a lot safer than riding a motorcycle, even at a slow pace, on a public road. We’re all subject to unanticipated ‘engine failures’ at any moment in our lives. I wouldn’t fly like this either but only because my skills aren’t up to it. I’m opinionated, not stupid.
Let me guess, you read the Roy Halladay report and are now an expert on amphib flying. If they had an engine failure they would just settle onto the marshy water in a plane without extended gear and a boat hull. That grass was swamp they were flying over. They never pulled high G or high banked turns. The hardest part woud be getting someome with an airboat to come find them. But do go back to watching "the flying cowboys" fly like idiots and worship them.
I agree with Dan, the pilot knew what he was doing, however if a deer or piece of heavy wood had suddenly appeared in their path, I don't think they would have time to react.
The only thing I really like more about the Searey is the sliding canopy. I am very close to buying one of these airplanes. Just looking for the right used one.

@@FloridaFlying Searay with 130 hp! Wow! One more thing I meant to say is freeboard on an Aventura/Buccaneer type plane. You're gonna' think I'm constantly knocking those types but here's the deal. When flying at night they tell you to land in the darkest spots should the engine fail since those are pond and lakes. In the water upside down is pretty likely. I thought the FAA said you had to fly no lower than allowed for a landing. Typically below 500 feet is not it.
I have read this two or three times and still can't make any sense out of it.
what a joy to watch
Is there anu factory build ?
At 3:03 the salesman said a lie. Also his radio calls are low end. All runways at DeLand are active. He is not taking that runway anywhere. Its a simple statement "DeLand Traffic, #, takingoff runway three zero, DeLand Traffic"
A bit of a thrill with it in ground effect for most of the flight, but you also want to be pretty sure there's next to no risk of the engine going out for that kind of flying.
there is always a risk of engine failure, even w dual amgs, and redundant everything--i thought he was a fool for flying so low!
Hi everybody. Is wonderful
Thanks for the trip, very good video congratulations 👏🤝😁👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 God bless the USA 👍
what was up with the dramatic pull to rotate?
sound track was dope too.
That was real awesome
Excellent video. I enjoyed it so much I watched it twice. From Bermuda.
He never actually landed on the water, and then did a take off.
What's up with that.
That's why I was watching the video.
Maybe it can't.
It definitely can. Done it plenty of times
@@argilla11 yes, I was being sarcastic.
But don't you think that they should have shown how it lands and takes off on water.
That is why I watched the video.
I already know that it can fly.
Just wanted to see how it performed on the water.
Crazy pilot. Crazy laugh to boot.
I like crazy.
Wow the completed kit with engine and avionics was the original price range of the icon a five, I hope this stays in the price range for sometime as listed... it’s a possible contender to my future...
The asking price for a new icon is a sin
I mean Christ all we wanted was a little fun in the sun and water instead we got an incredibly erotic sexual session involving the Botox concerning the icon A5 LOL
the price of this aircraft has been stable for a few yrs now.
Absolutely phenomenal.
great video!
Dude what an experienceee!
It's awsome and i like learn to fly
My blessings from 🇵🇷
Freaking AWESOME WILD plane😎😎😎😎😎😎
Deer have been known to jump when startled.
1967retread Same with coyotes! Years ago I almost hit one mid air in a 172 trying to scare him off the active. Would have made for an interesting accident report...
Good point
I have hit a deer. His horns are hanging in my office. I don't recommend it.
@Gavigg75 I am from Louisiana. This state probably has more swamp land than any others. Deer do live in the swamps. I can only assume you have never hunted deer in the swamp or been to Louisiana. Child like comments only make people see you as a child. Go wander the earth and get more experance so you don't sound like a kid.
That would make for an interesting accident report.
Now I want one!
I want get my PPL when I turn 15 but I don’t know if I should buy or rent.
I started at 15. Rent. Dont fly like this. If you want to be an expert fly like Bob Hoover. Be precise and be safe. Don't drive like this. Dont even ride a bike like this.
Great video! I have a Buccanier II I'm working on! I've owned many boats and the thought of a flying boat just floats my boat! I'm currently a sport pilot with a weightshift rating. (Delta wings, heavy powered hang glider wings.
How do you like weight shift trikes? I’ve never been in one. Every control is opposite of a conventional airplane, seems odd but I get that it makes sense. Does it get tiring? And do you have to be pretty fit to fly one?
@@FloridaFlying Trikes are awesome and so easy to fly! If you're in Florida, contact Larry Mednick at Evolution Trikes for a domo flight. Larry is probably the best trike pilot on earth! I've been flying trikes for 16 years and love them! You dont have to be a meathead to fly trikes. The controls are pretty light Go for a ride and get back to me Brother! Fly safe my friend!! DDDave
David Dixon hey thanks for the info! I am most definitely going to be flying in one in the future. I would love to see what it’s like and I’ll make a video of the experience
Thanks for the ride !
I can't help thinking that guy is a BAD pilot. If that plane lost power over those reeds and/or snagged a wing float that plane would have cartwheeled instantly. Not worth risking your lives over in my opinion. I would not fly with that pilot but thats because I dont see a need to take extra risks. Nice little plane though!
but thats not true. he had airpeed and if the plane had lost power he could have landed it in the reeds perfectly fine
So much for getting a paramotor! 😂 amazing stuff.
That’s badass!
Seems like this is exactly how it would feel to be in a Star Wars speeder
How much it would cost me fore a ride. Around
pretty confusing and weird that the throttle also controlls the pitch... but still a very nice aircraft
How is that confusing? Every fixed pitch aircraft is the same. Aside from the elevator, engine speed controls climbing and descent. Keep the elevator neutral and kill the engine power and you will go down. 😂
Too many unknowns at that altitude and if you think you have them all covered you're not as experienced as you think you are.
Airspeed is the primary concern, don't go slow and stall... Control is superb!
well you are coming from a very stuffy altitude!! YOLO!
@@fogtenderprod1199 what is a log or piece of machinery had been in those weeds. If it had you and your friend would now be a statistic
What are the options if there's.an engine failure over land at such low altitude?
what options.....you will be on the ground in less than 10 sec.
@@todaywefly4370 So? The point about aeronautics (that driving does not share) is that all possible scenarios are considered and anticipated.
Fabulous
I am interested in buying one
Damn, if they could put some tundra tires on that and land on sandbars that would be the ultimate plane.
I loved how bumpy it was when u touch the water and smooth when you fly up😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What is the cost of this plane?
Low flying looks good but that was probably a bit recklessly low. Always have a plan for engine failure and generally have the height to have options.
@@ginacalabrese3869 you guessed wrong, simpleton.
I agree with Dan, the pilot knew what he was doing, however if a deer or piece of heavy wood had suddenly appeared in their path, I don't think they would have time to react.
@@antoniobranch engine failure as they are approaching bushes and trees. you always need a plan for engine failure and flying very low isn't it.
@@DanFrederiksen What was that plane's glide speed?
thank you for the exhilirating ride, dudes
You’re welcome my man
The poor mans Searey !
I'd love to hear more about what he thinks of the Aventura vs the Searey.
The only thing I really like more about the Searey is the sliding canopy. I am very close to buying one of these airplanes. Just looking for the right used one.
@@Progneto have you found one?
Bravo !
There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots......
.
But there are no old, bold pilots
@@gibsonstation1292 and if the engine had quit they would have possibly died out there hoping for a rescue. Lot's of things in Florida that will kill you, not just dumbass flying antics. I was based in DeLand for a few years and flew most of Florida at 200' including downtown Orland on Fiber Optic Patrol. 4000 hours and 5 engine failures later, didn't ever attempt that level of bravado for a video let alone some fun. Would never fly with that guy. Nearly crashed in DeLand once very near the airport from a stuck valve. Nice video, totally unsafe. An eventual NTSB statistic that doesn't reflect on the rest of us very well. It's legal, but not safe. Take up skydiving if you just have to be stupid about thrills.
I dunno, that pilot looks pretty old to me and is also pretty bold..
They say that, but then again, Chuck Yeager is still alive..
Nathan Smith definitely an exception to the rule, but he always planned ahead, analyzed the risks, figured our how to accomplish the mission at hand and leave himself an out....
Wicked fun!
are you the voice of daily dose of internet ? you sound just like him
I think I need one... now 🙂
whats the price tag on this baby?
nice hair on the pilot. can you say rogaine class?
Pretty cool.
And if a Deer jumped up out of that grass he was skimming over? . There are old pilots and there are Bold pilots, But there are No old bold pilots.
Well first off, that's swamp grass and secondly that's a pretty old dude flying.
That looks like sawgrass in swamp land. There's standing water under those tall grass blades, sometimes a few feet deep. Airboats can navigate those waters, it looks/feels like you're flying low over grass even though you're on a boat. It's pretty surreal, kind of like this flight.
Where's the full stop water? I know why. I used to own one. It'll take about a mile & a half to takeoff with that load. I sold it.
What engine did you have? I’ll be putting out some supplemental videos in the future showing some more performance. With full stop landing next time
@@FloridaFlying 582 & an older model than what you guys were flying. You got more hp but a much heavier motor. Thinking back, I take back the mile & a half & drop it to a mile. I've got a Maxair 582 on Full Lotus floats & have had a Trike on Full Lotus. I find the best combo is a Max on Full Lotus simply because you can get out of the cockpit, fish, walk to the rear seat for gas etc. To each his own but after 47 years in ultralight a/c that's my two cents. No offense. If you're happy that's the main thing. Nice bird you got.
No offense taken! It’s not my plane, but I know these days the Aventura has some of the best water take off performance in its class, at least compared to the searey. They’ve been putting 117hp engines on them, and I think up to 130hp. Also I love the drifter, that’s gotta be my favorite ultralight type of plane (light sport now, but we all know it came from an ultralight). I’ve never been in a trike, I’m not sure what to think of them. I think my current mission is two seat, side by side, taildragger, with room for two backpacks
@@FloridaFlying Searay with 130 hp! Wow! One more thing I meant to say is freeboard on an Aventura/Buccaneer type plane. You're gonna' think I'm constantly knocking those types but here's the deal. Put two guys in either one, add some mildly choppy water, land in it as you normally do, start your turn from upwind to downwind to taxi for takeoff....what happens during the turn? You better make that turn real quick. (not always possible to takeoff straight ahead). With 6 maybe 8 inches of freeboard, I've almost sunk myself with two guys from boarding water. Anywho, flown knowledgeably, they're great & fun aircraft! Every land/sea aircraft has limitations. Nice talkin' to ya'.
This reminds me of the guys on rice rockets splitting lanes... only a matter of time before it doesn’t end well👎🏿
Fun police alert! Lane splitting is legal and he gave us the disclaimer. You’re just stating the obvious.
Its all fun...till it isn’t! 💀
Mike Yeah life’s like that a bit. Take Corona virus and international travel for an instance. Or perhaps Globalisation, that was fun!
cliff long been splitting since 82’ rockets an cruisers in CA an AZ its all about the rider !!!
Just because a motorcycle has 4 cylinders and is rev happy doesnt make it rice... jeez
Like skimming rice paddies in the Mekong Delta with an OH-6A. We got birds hitting the rotor blades and eventually one through the left bubble. Better them than bullets though.
I wouldn't fly with that guy.
Agreed. Flies like a cowboy.
One day he's going to end up looking like a piece of roadkill, or a piece of croc bait.
I'd fly with him in a heartbeat... Been flying like that for going on over forty years and love it. You will all die, yeah planes crash, people also run red lights no matter how careful you are... Life is to live, not be afraid.
People with nothing to lose live more...id rather have some fun than be "safe and secure"
I think I want one
Love water 💦 operations
I don't understand the point of creating a dangerous situation like flying 24 inches above the swamp and enticing others to do the same. The sinister laugh explains it all.
