    Normally you are supposed to wet the head before you install it but they skip that part

      @@drumndance hello sir, I have a doubt. can I know if the joint of the ring is welded?

    It was a little bit of a pain for me to push the rim down. I used a rubber mallet and finally got it seated and hooked. It's drying now but this was awesome. Thanks a lot!

    slick
    on my first attempt, I plan to use rather thick jacket leather. It's a very rusty cheap bongo anyway

    Hello Trevor. Is this the bongo you used for your second bongo book cover? I have that book since 10 years and still use it. Thank you very much for the great work.

      +cdtelara Thank-you for your kind words. My second book was the beginner book "Fun with Bongos." These are the same bongos as on the cover of my third and advanced book entitled "Bongo Drumming"Beyond the Basics." They are the LP Armando Peraza Cherry Wood. I am currently working on "The Conga and Bongo Drum in Jazz" which has been a very exciting project. (Release for 2016).

    What type skin? How about goat, will it sound any good?

    • @trevorsalloum8825

      The most common is cow, calf or X-ray film (macho). You could use goat, but I find it breaks too easily when used on the macho (small drum) as it would be under extreme tension.

    Super helpful. Was able to successfully install new hides, hoops on a pair of Meinl Mini bongos, and avoid some pitfalls. Thank you!

    how long you leve the head on water????

    • @trevorsalloum3643
      @trevorsalloum3643 7 років тому +4

      It really depends on the thickness. Basically until is pliable. For bongo heads you need about 30 minutes.

    Where do you get the raw skin?

  • @lairdsky4604
    @lairdsky4604 5 років тому +1

    Getting the skin is not problem but getting an appropriately sized drum flesh hoop is very hard.
