Well done ! You explain things very well and I like how you take your time. I have the same car, color and all and I am loving it. One thing you did not mention is, did the car feel any different after the installation? It sounds like these motor mounts are slightly stiffer than stock, so I am assuming that maybe you can feel more motor vibrations?
The new mounts added no noticeable noise and much less "wobble" when shifting. I love the crisp shifting and no more engine movement. I short, I love them. Sorry for taking so long to respond. I've been working on developing my new parts for these wonderful cars because my taillight mount brackets failed so I made Porsche Light Savers which have been selling world wide from our website, www.rennfix.com check it out.
Ditto as previous commentator.
What made you change your mounts in the first place?
Your thoughts and assessment after installation - notice any difference in drive? How so?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
+Tamer Temel My original mounts were sagging and I could feel the motor "swinging" around a bit on corners and the shifting was starting to get a little sloppy ... so I change the mounts and the motor is much tighter, I do not feel any additional roughness or noticeable additional cabin noise so I'm happy as a clam. thank you for your comment.
Thanks for this information.
I am also considering replacing my mounts because, the first and second gears are not very smooth. Sometimes I struggle to get it in gear and have to release clutch and try again.
I initially wondered if the problem was with the gear-box. Possibly the synchromesh (i.e. a big and costly job). But before that I gathered there could be other possibilities, in order of low-cost = Shifter, shifter cables, clutch then gearbox. I have done the shifter and cables and was considering the clutch but.... now, it seems that the difficulty in engaging gear (particularly into) 1st and occasionally into 2nd (sometimes when the weather is cold other times when temperatures are normal) may well be down to engine mounts. My 997 is 10 years old and has 120k on the clock!! so I wouldn't be surprised.
I think the engine mount change may be worth considering. What do you think?
And did you consider the "Rennline Tuneable Semi-Solid Engine Mounts" before going with your solution?
Ps. How could you tell the engine was sagging?
I would also check the cable adjustment to your shifter. They stretch and become slack over time and require tightening. good luck
Great video and explanation. Your video will help a great deal. I on q 1999 996 coupe.
Thank you Monte. love the feel and crisp shifting. If you have the 996 Turbo, C4S or GT2 you should definitely put my Porsche Light Savers on this car. On RennFix.com
+Engineerboy 100 HI, mine is the C2 couple. What does your light saver Do? Thanks again.
Well it won't work on a C2 but I have a video here on this channel that covers it completely but in a nut shell, it holds your taillight lights on when the flange mount locations crack. ua-cam.com/video/pMzzC3KppJ8/v-deo.html
Clint, why remove the spacers? Pros? Cons? Thanks,
Not sure if there are any functional Pros or Cons, but some might prefer keeping as much stock as possible while others want the new mounts as close to the frame as possible. I went with no spacer. I figured if it's not needed, it ... Well, not need.
@@Engineerboy100 Thanks for the rapid response Clint. Great videos.
Make a huge difference, for hardly any cost. My 996 turbo drives so much better. Recommended.
Clint, Which mount would you recommend now given NYPPD no longer available? I see WEVO ,Rennline adjustable,Torque Solutions, RSSTarmac Series. Any suggestions? Also quite a large variation in price as well Thanks
HI Clint, great video, nice and clear. How would I know if my motor mounts need to be changed. Is there a dimension somewhere I can look to? maybe the top of the tail pipe to the bumper underside?
Hi Michael, There are 4 ways that I know of that you can decide you need new motor mounts. The first is exactly what you said, the distance between the tail pipes and the bumper. That is how I noticed my mounts were shot initially, one side of my engine was lower than the other. The second way you can tell is you can feel the engine go "clunk" when you go over a bump. The 3rd way is you can feel the engine sway or kind of through when you go thru sharp corners back to back. and the 4th way you know you need to change your motor mounts is when you see a cool set of semi-solids and you want to change them ;)
Hi Clint, thanks for the fast reply. I like your 4th reason, good sense of humor. Now that you have changed them are you happy? In hind sense do you think you picked the correct hardness or do you wish you choose something else? Are all the other telltale signs for replacement gone now ? Thanks. I know the 4th reason is now corrected.
The mounts are excellent, If I didn't like them I would change them today as I am currently changing the water pump and thermostat. The video should be up by this weekend ;) the NYPPD mounts are excellent, the 75A durometer hardness is perfect, it is coincidentally the same hardness of all the wheels on my skateboards :) I love these mounts!
Got a 911 Carrera 4 turbo(1998) need to change the alternator, is it hard to change it? coz im sure it will cost a lot when you go to a dealer or a authorized Porche Mechanic, I need your input on this... Mahalos Bubba!
"Hard" is relative, would it be hard for me? NO, I enjoy working on my car, the difficulty level depends on your level of mechanical ability. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 4-5 there are videos on how to do it. I have not changed mine yet but others have, check them out. Basically if you remove the air filter box you can better see some of what would be involved. Hope this helped.
Thank you Clint!! for the info-very much appreciated it!! ya i watched some videos, and i think we can do it !! - called my mechanic and im sure it would be around $1600 just to change it !! so i think- me and my freind can do it in haft...Mahalos
so i called one of the auto parts and they have a re-furbished one ? is that going to be okay-- not a new parts..Thank you Clint
You have great videos. Question. Have you changed your stereo over to a more modern double Din unit? My 2004 996TT Head unit just started to get the white lines on the display and now nothing will display. I was hoping to look to you for advice.
I have not changed my head unit yet but I've been getting a lot of pressure from my wife to "upgrade" I may have to at some point and if I do I will definitely do a lot of research before making my final selection and I will do a video. ;)
@@Engineerboy100 I look forward to seeing it. Thanks.
