Up until a year ago, I wouldn't have called Magnus the GOAT. I'd have put Kasparov or Fischer ahead of him. But now I'm pretty sure Magnus is the king of kings. ''My 600 Memorable Games'' is going to be a gigantic book some day.

Modern players are weaker than players of the past. Magnus would excel in any era but he wouldn't get away with inferior openings against a Geller, Polugayevsky, Karpov Kaparov, Fischer or Botvinnik

It's not random though. He's figured out that because chess is so "structured" and "rule" based if he makes a weird play, it will instantly start to grind at his opponent and make them over think and make mistakes

I literally heard Pacman sounds in my head watching this. Woa-woga-woga-woga. First those pawn moves, breaking the rule that Carlsen doesn't like moving pawns. Then the maze he sets up with Duda's own attacking material. Uncanny martial artistry. And all of it watertight as you wonderfully demonstrate.
Duda is studying today, garanteed :). But the f on what should he work.

Perhaps this is what you are implicitly saying, but I feel like what is happening is Magnus is playing these weird lines to get opponents out of their prep and away from simply memorizing move sequences. It would also be easier to see if someone is cheating with these weird openers because the best moves are frequently unnatural and hard to find without computer assistance.

Magnus carlsen going where nobody has ever gone.FIDE is requested to look into his problem in not defending his title in classic chess. If the best player is not playing for championship title then CHESS looses.hope he plays classic also. In blitz scope to blunder is very large and magnus being a GOAT player seldom blunders and his understanding of position is astounding. 3min plus 1sec per move increment is good for viewer but real battle is classic chess so lets hope magnus and FIDE find some common ground for settlements.

Carlson barely develops a piece? yeah cuz 2 have been developed, one is off the board, and a finchetto is a very strong move. I wouldnt define it as a barely, it requires 2 moves. When Carlson castles after c3, the board looks very normal, almost transposed.

Carlsen is not revolutionizing chess. He is demonstrating how even top players are overly dependent on memorizing opening lines; so that when you take them out of their familiar territory, they make inferior moves quite early in the game. A chess engine would destroy Carlsen even quicker after these opening moves then they would in a normal line because the moves are objectively inferior. But they are also outside of his opponents prep.
