I appreciate you teaching Paul Tillich's books. I started Dynamics of Faith but found it a heavy read during a heavy time in my life and and set it aside. But within those early chapters there were deep insights into the human condition and the seemingly impossible possibility of a finite being relating to the infinite. I'm ready to continue on. It's great to have you back and looking so well.

Thanks for the introduction. I struggled reading Tillich, but your contextualization was really helpful.

The place where Tillich grew up isn't exactly outside Berlin. When he was born, the place was called Starzeddel and belonged to the Guben district (Landkreis) of Brandenburg. Today, it is called Starosiedle and belongs to Poland. (after the war, a quarter of Germany's territory was given to Poland and their German inhabitants deported).

you are right. I should have said, " hundred miles southeast of Berlin, now Poland, then Germany."

@@RabbiMordecaiFinley No problem. BTW, the most accessible work by Tillich I found so far is his lecture "Symbols of Eternal life", found here on UA-cam. Also, hearing his real voice is great. It strikes me in a strange way, that the person speaking passed away several years before I was even born, and most people in the audience are also probably gone by now. I'd really love to have a time machine.

    Tillich is pronounced: Til-LICK
Appreciated hearing a Rabbi discuss Paul Tillich's book.

Many years ago Germany speakers corrected to pronounce its Till-ische. Like when you say I (Ich) in German. The differences, it seems, are regional.
