Hey friends! Just a reminder you can now sign up for my monthly small group UXR coaching session (with max. 20people) here: calendly.com/aonatalks/uxr-group-qa Spots are very limited! It’s a small group setting so you’ll have my undivided attention 💗
What do you think about the life of a UXR? Looks pretty fun? Candle making, rainbow calendar, kitties and plants and whatnot? Actually it's also full of behind the scene stress. Like this comment if you are interested in seeing the dark side of things ;)
This is amazing! Thank you so much for a sneakpeak into a Researcher’s week at a big tech company! I’ve just started my first job as a solo UX Researcher at a startup, and my week looks so so different!! It really got me thinking what setup would work better for me at this career stage. Thanks so much for sharing again, so interesting and inspiring!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hey! I’ve worked on EPIC’s site for the last 2 years as a junior developer. Its super interesting that I’ve found your video as I’m now trying to figure out my way into a UX role.
Hi Aona, thanks for capturing. Would like to see another week where you do more of research project specific work. And agree that one needs to take time off for self interests. But in a regular WFO scenario can you do all these on a work day?
So happy I found your channel! I think it is important to talk about these things and they are very helpful as well. I wish some of your old videos had subtitles or there could be english versions. I am especially interested in the presentation tips and storytelling :)
Hi Aona, Thanks for making this video. I came across your channel today, and looking forward to soaking in more of your content. Appreciate what you do, and for sharing your day to day as realistically and authentically as you can. I am a human-centered designer, and Senior Designer at the agency that I work for and working on moving into the UXR space. Not only am I advocating for it more at my current company, but I am relieved/thrilled to understand where I want to take myself career-wise. I can empathise with being laid off in 2020. It happened to me too. It was really scary, and a difficult moment to get through with an incredible amount of uncertainty during the time. I'm so glad for you to see that you could retain the relationships you had at Airbnb, but also create a new world for yourself at Google. Congrats! P.S. Love the cameos by Hedwig and Sprinkles!
Quick question- what brand or where did you buy the floating(?) black & wood desk behind you in the first few minutes of this video? Thanks for the great vid also!!
Hi, very interesting video, thank you very much 😊. I have a question, is it good at math? Knowing how to read and do statistics is enough or do you need deep math to do UXR? I ask this because I would like to be UXR and I am still in my studies. 📚
Love the authenticity of this video Aona! As the sole UXR at a medium sized start up, I am constantly curious how other researchers days look like so thank you so much for taking the time to beautiful edit and share this with us! Would have loved to hear more bits and pieces of the meeting though!
It's always tricky to share that because all meetings should be confidential, and I need consent from my coworkers to share as well : P But I will be hosting a Livestream Q&A on UA-cam soon! - hopefully to see you then and I can answer any questions you may have!
I love this! Thank you so much for creating this content. I was laid off from my UXR job at a fin-tech in March and have since gone back to school, and work freelance as a UXR. I miss the office and the life :( This vlog just reminded me why its such as great career :) Thank you!
I'm doing UX research as an intern, and one of my required reports is a "day in the life" and I already right off the bat knew that one day isn't going to reflect the job at all. Instead I'm planning on documenting and making a video about the process of setting up and achieving a single mini-goal. I worked with this org as a client in my web usability class last semester, and we got into a workflow rhythm that we're going to maintain this time too. Which is basically: set a goal, do it, make some visual aids to explain what I did and what the results were, present it to supervisor, propose new goal. Repeat until project end.
This was so cool and informative. Thanks for doing it Aona. Really liked how you structure your week and the Friday snapshots...will give it a shot myself.
As a follow-up question Aona, curious to know how has life changed for you as a UXR since COVID, I understand you joined Google during the pandemic...in comparison to Research at AIRBNB and here at Google...whats different both in terms of how each perceives Research and also in terms of Research applicability and approach?
You are such a darling... I love your videos, they inspire me and always give me that hope and push I need to not giving up on trying to break into UXR. THANK YOU ❤
What a fun week!! lol. I was expecting to know a bit about how you would arrange your research schedules (e.g., usability tests, interviews)... Or is it that you don't need to moderate the studies by yourself at Google? (e.g., outsource)
Thanks for your comment! What a fun topic! I do need to arrange my own schedule for studies - it just didn’t happen during this particular week. Also planning a research schedule usually varies from project to project based on different methods and complexity :P but it’s a great topic and I will try to cover that in future videos.
your cats are so adorable! i was looking forward to this, thanks for all the info:) i wanted to ask you but totally forgot about it what made you decide to mentor?
Giving back to the community has been one of my top priorities. and after doing it I realized how much I enjoy seeing my mentees succeed and I’m constantly motivated by so many of you ☺️
I just found your channel and I am OBSESSED with it and I've been binge watching your old videos as well! I can see you're super busy but (my mandarin sucks) I really hope u can add eng cc into your old videos as well! Love your content it is so up my alley
Thanks Aona for your sharing, it's super inspiring and informative!! I like the way you organize your work, your authenticity and your passion on your work!!! Looking forward your new videos!!
I just discovered your channel- your editing is incredible! The drawings and animations and all your effort put into this video is so great to see. I'm a junior UXR at a large gaming company- really love seeing the daily life of others in the field, my week has a very similar structure! Looking forward to more videos :)

Hi thanks for lovely video. I didn't understand for the documentation end of week, which tools you use?
Quick question- what brand or where did you buy the floating(?) black & wood desk behind you in the first few minutes of this video? Thanks for the great vid also!!
Cakep mbanya
This is so helpful! I’m looking into different UX programs now. Random question, what breed are your kitties? They are both so sweet and beautiful 🥰
Haha they are Siberians :)
WHAT is that lemon prep? Looks amazing!
Put a layer of honey in between layers of lemon slices and marinate them overnight!! Yummmm
