On our first full day in the wonderful Orkney Islands, we chose to take our hire car across to nearby Shapinsay island about 25 minutes away, using

The island is peaceful and beautiful and we found a 'gem' of a spot on our travels by way of the remains of an Iron Age fortification right on the sea - namely, Burroughston Brock.

An unusual weather day to visit Orkney and Shapinsay. normally you need full waterproofs and a hat that does not fly off. Please get your fact right about the years the buildings were built.
There were so many other things of interest in the village and Balfour estate.
