Powermaster Optimus Prime's a very interactive toy for his day!! Well, besides the original Optimus Prime!!
I'm glad you explained the ending of the G1 Marvel comic as leading into Actionmasters. I never made the connection. I dropped out of Transformers during that time until Generation 2 Marvel comics started.
Even though I stopped collecting the toys I kept collecting the comics up until the end.

I know I previously stated that Getaway was my favorite but he's actually second to Prime.
Excellent review and reiteration of the late 80's saga! I loved the way this toy revitalised my Transformers interest in 1988.
This was my first optimus prime great figure I had such a blast with him growing up.
Awesome reviews. 🤙I just bought the Marvel issue he appear him. That he was so awesomel. The Japanese version of him actually had some a really good improvements to the arms of his super robot mode.

Bought this new in 1989 (I was 12). Still have it.
A couple tips: 1. Because Optimus' engine clips are part of the mold (the other powermasters have a separate clip) they tend to flex out with use (hence why Hi-Q doesn't stay in), but if you push in the grill you can use a small flat head screw driver the gently flex the clips back and they will work as intended. This does have diminishing returns if you do it too often, and I find I have to split one of Hi-Qs legs to hold him in more often than not.
2. If you loosen the screw on the super mode leg/hip joint (about 1/8 to 1/4 turn, no more), it will ease the ratchet and reduce the risk of breakage. Or you can take it apart and carefully trim off the flash buildup from the red ratchet ring. I did both to mine after i had to replace a leg part that cracked.
The Japanese version of This toy had a chrome engine.
It also had a die cast cab, just like the 84' Prime
@@Jonnybravo-808 Hasbro did reissue the Japanese version for their Commemorative Series, with Godbomber becoming "Apex Bomber" and a elongated missile.

I think this figure is friggin cool! It's so bulky and retro but also badass. It reminds me of a toy I had as a kid in 2005 it was the Transformers Cybertron Leader class Optimus Prime and it has a trailer like the powermaster prime that would attach and form a super robot mode. It has electronics and a key gimmick, man I loved that toy. I think they rereleased
I have that one, I haven't fooled with it in years.
My birthday is November 11th, which is also veterans day I think he would be the perfect figure to review for that day. He's definitely a veteran and so are you.
Loved the Powermaster reviews! My Powermaster Prime does the same thing with the HiQ figure. This Prime has quickly become one of my all time favorites. Great job reviewing him as always. Really looking foward to your NECA Jason review!

This is a neat review of Powermaster optimus. They toy is still popular that it has a transformers legends version of the titan returns powermaster optimus but much better then the U.S version but overall i love you're videos and you're toy reviews. And again just wanted to say thank you for servering our great country.

You're probably already aware but the Japanese release and reissues have clear windows, chromed engine, and other upgrades, plus upgrade armor.
Yep, I had one a few years back but sold him off during the great TF Purge of 2011. 😑

I just got Toyhax for this guy a week or two ago. Powermaster Optimus is one of my favorite pieces in my collection. He's nearly complete and is just missing Hi-Q, but I don't really care to get him. I don't care for the powermaster gimmick.
Excellent review, brother! THIS is the video that I've, personally, been waiting for since you began your channel! It was NOT disappointing in the LEAST! As a matter of personal opinion, I'd say you knocked it OUT of the park and well on into the next State.
I particularly enjoyed the assessment of the origins & history of the character in the Marvel Comics, and was especially pleased that we did NOT get into the whole "PMOP vs. Ginrai" nonsense, given that you haven't been able to watch, nor be influenced by, the Masterforce cartoon series. (People STILL can't understand, for SOME reason, that these two TOYS are the same toy, HOWEVER, they are portrayed as TWO distinctly different characters, with TWO distinctly different origins & storylines. NOT hard to understand.)
While Masterforce was pretty good, and I HAVE watched it, the Japanese take on the character is vastly different from the American Marvel Comics way of approaching the character, AND had we gotten the series in the States, I have NO doubts that the character would've been handled as differently from the Comics and MF series as the G1 cartoons were, as Optimus would have been a continuation of the original character brought back after the movie and last season of G1. They'd have had to cut, add and rewrite some things for flow and continuity, but that's nothing new.
Anyway, loved the history of the character, and tying it back into the joint history of the other Powermasters. That's some good work and I appreciate the effort involved... And just so you know, I'll probably watch this thing SEVERAL times over, one of which as soon as I'm done with this long @$$ comment, lol! 😅😅😅
I love this iteration of Optimus Prime as a Powermaster! He's one of my absolute, all-time favorite figures and characters, in the Transformers Universe, AND of my collection. Therefore, I tend to be picky and more critical of how the character is handled in media, as well as Generations style updates or re-imaginings.
For example, people raved about the Xovergen PMOP Trailer, that combined with the old G3 Classics Optimus to form what was supposedly a version of PMOP... I vehemently disagree to this day. THAT wasn't a PMOP, it was JUST a giant, PROPORTIONATE, version of Optimus Prime. IT completely lacked the bulk in his LEGS that the toy and figure AND character ARE WELL known for. Seems like there were other things, like the "trailer" itself NOT resembling the G1 toy/character by any stretch of the imagination, aside from the front/side mounted twin turret guns, but instead resembled a brick of mechanized, plastic vomit, like Suet for Transformers, that always sat with an uphill slant in trailer mode. The basic concept was there, but the execution was straight up shite.
More recently, Fans Hobby has created their "Power Baser" (3rd Party PMOP) and, MAN!! THAT thing is a work of art! It has flaws (ONE being that the trailer is too flat looking in vehicle mode, and TWO, the Base mode isn't fantastic...), but in big bot combined mode...? THAT thing is awesome!
If there were a way to combine the Takara Legends trailer and Perfect Effect Jinrai cab/bot (for alt mode & basic bot mode), with the G1 BASE mode, and the Fans Hobby combined robot PMOP mode, THAT would be the perfect modern update for PMOP.
Hasbro got close with their PotP PMOP (Powermaster Orion Pax) evolution figure, BUT the cab was a mess, no official Base mode, AND the LEGS lacked the bulk of their PMOP figure... Oh yeah, and HASBRO STILL can't get THEIR reds & blues RIGHT for Optimus. Frankly, if they revisited the character in the SIEGE Trilogy as a Commander class figure in combined bot mode, corrected their colors, and G1/G3'd the HELL out of him to give us a great looking vehicle & combined bot mode, with at LEAST a relatively decent BASE mode, I'd be happy to buy ANOTHER PMOP figure.
As for the ever iconic and fave-tastic brick of awesome, G1 PMOP... I STILL have mine displayed out with my more modern stuff. A few years back, I bought a second PMOP because the hitch peg had broken on my original copy, and I wanted to use the junker as fodder for making a custom PMOP with modern articulation, and scaled to his correct comic/cartoon appropriate height. I ended up not getting to start the custom at that point though, so I'll probably go back and drill out where the hitch peg goes, and insert a new piece so that it will be fully functional again. The new one turned out to be completely devoid of his stickers on the trailer, maybe the cab too(?), so I ordered the Toyhax Reprolabels and applied everything myself, so he looks fantastic now. (Yeah, I'm a perfectionist, like you, when it comes to that, lol. 😅) So NOW, I have an excellent version of the figure which makes a nice display piece.
*(The hitch peg on my original copy broke because the hole in his truck mode, that it plugs into was too tight. I KNOW, LOL! 😅😅😅 Anyway, went to disconnect the trailer and... SNAP-O!! I was quite unhappy, so combined mode became his permanent state.
I would imagine THAT, and the accidental sideways motion are the most likely ways they tend to break off.)
Something else of note about this G1 figure... I have heard, that you can allegedly fold up an original G1 Optimus Prime (or any re-issue version, obviously...) and it will fit in the torso section of the larger bot. Sounds cool enough, but MY question is... How does the larger head plug into place?! 🤔 Have you heard of or tried that?
I took the extra set of twin guns and rifles to use with my TR Takara Legends version of PMOP, because I liked the colors, chest & cab design better than the Hasbro version. Those G1 shoulder cannons look awesome on him, and the stock cannons are now attached to his legs. Factor in the PE Jinrai cab bot and the other 2 upgrade kits, and NOW he's PMOP, but smaller than he SHOULD be.
Clearly, I could go on about this figure, and other incarnations, for awhile, lol. I do wish that Marvel would have done MORE with him, before the series ended, but I'm glad for what we did get, and at the same time, I'm glad I could enjoy the Masterforce series too, but as a COMPLETELY different incarnation of the character... Although, by the END of the series, NOT so different after all. I'll leave it at that, because that's somewhere the "Ginrai Police" don't want me to go, as it disproves THEIR entire argument and validates my own, lol.🤔 🤖😅😅😅

I smiled and replied "No. Convoy is Japanese, Optimus Prime is American...learn some TF history."

That's kind of what I was getting at though... Some of these TF-ophiles will go watch the Masterforce series and suddenly they seem to FORGET that the entire G1 cartoon series exists (you know, EXCEPT for when they get upset and demand that figures must ALL be cartoon color "inaccurate", of course!), and Optimus Prime ceases to exist in THEIR heads & realities, completely replaced by Convoy/Ginrai, because they also discover the Japanese version of the G1 cartoon and somehow makes them arrogantly STUPID, like THEY KNOW some big secret about TF's and the rest of us are merely uneducated plebes, struggling through life as uninformed fans of something we know nothing about... Except they don't realize 2 things:
1) First & foremost, WE DON'T CARE WHAT THEY THINK, and...
2) OUR lives DON'T revolve around knowing EVERY SINGLE useless detail of TF cartoon history, especially of a version that does not necessarily even matter to most of us in the States. Not that the Japanese versions aren't cool as their own thing, because they are, BUT they aren't relevant to OUR perception and enjoyment of things TF.
That said though, their arrogance is astounding and laughable! 😅😅😅😅😅

The apex armor/ god bomber really fix the proportion on power master optimus Prime never had the g1 power mater prime but thinking of getting one but burning convoy orange ver from the Japanese ver I do have the recent release of the Takara titans return power master with upgrades from perfect effect with new chest figure along with god bomber is totally worth getting for any one a fan of both ver of power master optimus Prime

I was looking forward to this, didn't disappoint for the most part. Kinda wished you talked about the Japanese version of the toy for a bit, but the additions that were added to that version almost makes it worthy for a separate review, with the 2nd trailer and stuff.

Great review of this toy, and one of my all-time fav transformers toys and Prime toys. I have the Commemorative edition which is the Ginrai released as PMOP. In that edition, it has a diecast cab, a bit more chrome, and it fixed the issue with Hi-Q and also came with the Apex armor (God Bomber). Thanks for sharing the story arcs from the comics, and I hope you do eventually watch the Japanese series, as I think the story for Ginrei is a bit less ..convoluted hahaha. most of the weapons from the PotP will work on this prime and vice versa. He also had a fantastic base mode, Thanks for a fantastic review

This is my first Optimus Prime figure I ever got. I have the Titan Returns version now. I used to put Pretender Classics Bumblebee in his trailer, or I would store the head in there.
Waou, really great review! I have a question and I hope you can help me with; I have what I thought was a 1988 Powermaster which looks exactly the same than the one in your review. However both smaller robot and Powermaster Prime have blue eyes. Have they reissued the Powermaster with this only difference? thanks a lot and once again, amazing work!
They did Reissue Powermaster Prime in 2002, but I think his eyes were red too.

I ended up getting the Japanese Ginrai and God Bomber about 10 years ago. The chrome and diecast make it worth it. Even though I got the Titans Return Powermaster Prime I also bought the Japanese version for the armor. Maybe I need to go back to get a G1 US Powermaster Prime to have both of each.
I need to rebuy one with the Godbomber armor.

Never owned but know someone who did and got to try it out and wish I did get one.
Know a tiny bit on Masterforce with PMOP's japanese Counterpart Ginrai, Super Ginrai, and God Ginrai and his future in becoming Victory Leo.
Owned this one as a kid- lots of fun!
I still remember getting him as a kid, my second Optimus toy. Lost all the pieces and the trailer hitch broke over the years but I ended up getting a used one with all the pieces like fifteen years ago. Still got him too.

This is probably my all time favorite official character/figure rendition from G1, in spite of Skywarp being my favorite character in general. Wish they could have somehow done something new and cool like make him and the other 2 Seekers & the Coneheads into Powermasters, for example, with new transformations. I mean, not necessarily THAT gimmick specifically, BUT then again, they could have done 3 Powermasters & 3 Headmasters or Targetmasters, or something. Another cool G1 Skywarp would have been nice...
the peg gets broke in alt mode while the trailer is connected. that's what happened to mine as a kid.

Well, believe it or not, I also discovered two hidden modes for him (for the trailer that is). One being a gun mode and another being a somewhat space ship mode.
Now you just need to finally do g1 Prime!

Just like me liking Megatron's G2 toy design better than the original, I liked Powermaster Prime better than the original. Just the play value it has makes it for me.
Also, although Optimus with self-doubt and more violent always feels out-of-character to me (and in recent incarnations like Bayformers and TFA, making me wish it had been Rodimus instead), I could actually accept his Powermaster form (as well as his subsequent forms in the Marvel continuity) having doubts and being prone to outbursts. Why? Because I feel that after his experience in the video game realm, he just didn't have quite the grasp of reality as he did in his original form, so he really has trouble in keeping his emotions in check and it makes him wonder if he really is the right person to lead. At least, those are my thoughts, but yeah, I think it is a plausible explanation as to why he developed those doubts while also keeping him in-character.

Why Optimus Prime was on a floppy disk? Because he killed himself over a video game! It also started the trend of killing of Optimus Prime, only for him to come back in a new body, thus a new toy on the shelf.

@@PatriotPrimeReviews thanks ! I wish they would have had more episodes for season 4 than what they did . Power master Optimus Prime is a much better fit to fight Galvatron than Rodimus Prime due to the size differences. From what I remember Galvatron was a large or larger than the combiners .
The Japanese Ginrai version is better. Real windows, hands that slide in, chrome engine. They really cheapened him up in America.
