This was such a great video because it reminds me to keep it simple and what I am looking for is right under my nose! thank you for sharing, p.s I liked the light it made me feel like I was chatting with you in your living room. Maybe by drawing one of those many things you’re interested in each day, you’ll find you really like your outlining. Or maybe you really like a specific color scheme. Maybe certain character features commonly occur in your art. Etc!
That reminds me of something I'm doing. There are so many artists and illustrators out there whose art styles I like that I started making a list of their names and/or social media usernames, that would then allow me to privately rank them based on how much I like their art style and how close it is to the art style I want to develop. I'm doing it on Milanote, where I would then create boards for each artist that would contain some information and examples of their works that I like. (Edit 2 months later: I later decided not only to privately rank them based on how much I like, love, or envy their art styles, but added a second rank for how much I like their visual development skills!)
@@pawshirecoming back to this video I have found my style, but for me it was the media that helped me find it. My real niche is zen tangle like designs with Posca markers! I’m opening up an Etsy shop this week!!
Thank you so much! I have tried so many different ways to 'make art', books, workshops etc, feel inspired 'oh yes, this is it', then always losing interest and quitting, 'well, I just don't have it'. Your words inspire me. 87 and still 'looking'.
This is great because most people say “draw or paint everyday” and that’s it.. Using something you Love as the subject is the missing link! I’ll have to try this! Thank you for sharing! 👏😄
Your "uninteresting" story really resonated with me. As a former graphic artist, who decided to go back to drawing & painting, I had a tough time finding my style. Even though I've had small success in selling art & getting commissions, my style is all over the place. I feel lost. Like nothing I put out there is truly me. After spending the past few days watching videos on this subject, I have to say, yours has really helped simplify & put things in perspective for me. Thank you so much! ❤
Your on camera presence is so engaging, just lovely. This is really great advice. I think it's not absolutely imperative that you work every single day, but a consistent practice and committing to that is definitely key. Draw what you love and you'll find yourself developing. Do what others want you to, or what you think they want you to do and you will fail both in your improvement and your joy.
you speak from my soul.. same here: graphic designer with lost motivation in the only thing i was good at, since I was a little kid. liked & subscribed
I love that you have identified your art style. I've noticed over the past 15 years that my art style changes. I just love making art that makes other people happy.
This, your story resonates a lot. I worked as a graphic designer too, and i needed to get back into drawing, which i always love. Working as a graphic designer, doing other ppl’s job orders and commissions actually eat at you artistically… by the end of a workday you are left with no creative brain juices for yourself. It came to a point i had to rediscover myself artistically again, and the road to that is art… the sketchbook is a mighty powerful tool. You gave great advice in your video. And your drawings are very good and pretty.

Your uninteresting story is my story. Word by word. Except that I’m still not drawing and thinking about how do I make illustration my one and only thing that gives me income. Still working as a graphic designer. The advice you give in this video might be the one thing that finally gets me started. It makes ALL the sense. Doing this allows one to find a pattern, that one thing that’s unique to you. Also, your cat drawings are divine ❤️… and hand gestures are a must for explanations LOL latinamerican here 🖐️
So happy I found your channel we think alike for the last month I have been drawing the same as you suggested finding my way, women cats and few other topics that interest me. I find it is a great way to also try to complete in 10mins certain drawings Challenge myself daily to do. Wishing you success with your channel, I am sure you will be very successful.❤
That was the most truthful and useful information for the stuck artist…overwhelmed is my middle name 😊….thank you….I will take with me “Practice makes Progress” not practice makes perfect whichever never really believed or understood. Daily fun/practice here I come….🎉
This was actually worth it. I mean every word you said was quite correct and too the point. I think this the only thing I need to achieve my art style.
Thank you soo much for sharing this! I’ve been having a hard time to get myself motivated to draw. Watching your video really inspired me to just do it for myself and have fun! Love your style, keep it up ❤❤
Thanks I needed everything you said. I was sitting here staring blankly at six taped off cards naked of pencil, pen, or paint. By the time you finished talking I had a bird I love staring back at me. I will try your method every day. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇨🇦❤
I’m a graphic designer trying to get back into the swing of making art, I thought I was the only one! Knew you were a designer once I seen the graphics on your video. You give me faith that I can do both!
As I’m picking up art again late in life I’ve encountered that same issue, finding my style. I have learned so much from people that I follow that I can mimic their style and it looks decent. However, it’s not really my work. When people compliment me, I always have to say I learned this drawing from someone one else and it’s not me. Don’t get me wrong, I like the drawing but figuring out how to express my own uniqueness has been a struggle for the various reasons you pointed out. I love your approach and I’m going to have to try that. It’s such a simple technique that gently forces you to focus on a few things and watching how you were able to see you find your style evolve overtime was very helpful plus inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤
Thank you for this. I'm also a graphic designer that was a panting major back in college. I lost the "pulse" that I had when I was painting due to the length of time I have been a designer. Now, I'm trying to get back to making fine art and what I've been creating is shit. But I realized that if we take out self judgment, we also take out the paralyzing fear to make mistakes. It's important to be kind to yourself and to give yourself a break while breaking into this craft again. Thank you Pawshire! Excellent video tip!
I relate to this a lot. It was also really exhausting to "believe" that I needed to know it all! The decision to just focus on painting what made me happy was really a huge change for my journey. You can definitely get there too
This was very helpful! I have old sketchbooks from several years ago where I drew and painted different people, and when I look at them now I'm amazed at how good I was! Back then I drew several times a week. I haven't drawn for a few years now but I'm going to start again. Your art is beautiful 💖
Such pretty work you make! And I love this idea and tips, simple and solid. And it makes me realize I have been drawing the same things that I love over and over now for awhile, just for fun. So now I can look over those drawings for patterns and inspiration and (hopefully) can move forward a bit more with my own work. How fun, thank you!
You are one of the most incredible artists I've ever seen. I can't tell you how much I love your work. I've been trying to find a style for 40 years. I have excellent taste in OTHER people's art, but no style of my own.
Aaahh, I really love your drawings! And the way you pick and put the colors together to create such harmonious drawings! Looking at them, even the unfinished pieces on your sketchbook makes me feel happy and wanna pick up the pencil and paint and start drawing again! 💙💙
Your story is just like mine. About graphic designer and everything. I started to draw consistently again in 2021. Love your sketchbook ❤ by the way. Good luck 😊

But today after looking your video, it helps me not to compare, it is okay to make mistakes, and keep on practice. Thankyou very much :)
