You'll find out in future episodes why Donny finds it so hard to say 'no' to Martha, why he accepted her friend request on Facebook despite knowing she was a criminal, and so on. He's not simply someone utterly non-assertive or timid. I know it may seem frustrating and confusing/strange, but there's an explanation.

So glad to see someone reacting to this. I was the same as you, so uncomfortable as to why! but you do learn more with each episode. I felt frustrated, confused and sick in some parts and i cried a lot. How this man played himself in his own story actually blows my mind and breaks my heart at the same time. An incredibly brave man

1:09 "That's so weird, who does that?" Stalkers. They're perfectly consumed with their victims, it's beyond obsession. They can neglect basic things like eating, sleeping, and work just to contact their victim or follow them. There are several types of stalker - Rejected stalkers, Resentful stalkers, Intimacy stalkers, Incompetent suitors, and Predatory stalkers. Martha's the Intimacy stalker. Over half of stalkers are former intimacy partners. They suffer delusions and have a warped sense of reality, where they totally believe their victim is in a romantic relationship with them, and have no grasp of how to respect personal boundaries. Stalkers don't recognize the distress they put their victims in, and it's practically impossible to let them down gently when reasoned with. The bottom line is, stalkers are all about wanting power and control over one person. They usually have histories of abuse.

I was horrified when I finished this episode and literally had to come on here so we can have a support group cause wth did I just watch. It feels comforting having someone else watch it and be just as horrified.

I was completely frustrated with him... i didnt need to get further in to know he had his own trauma/ mental illness issues set him up to put up with her kind of crazy. Most well balanced people would feel that off putting feeling and distance themselves waaaay sooner. It only goes on as long as it did the way it did when there is something reciprocated between the 2.
Wait until episode 4.. you’ll really be put off. It gets very intense. Pretty hard to watch.

The freezing up after being inappropriately touched is very real and weird
When i was 13 i was laying in bed with my cousin and i was going off into sleep but then he started touching my private area (we were both males) and for some reason, i dont really know why, i completely froze up. I pretended i was asleep
This had messed me up for alot of years because I was young and immature, I didn't understand sexuality yet so I began doubting my sexuality because of what happened
I'm now 20 and I got over it, but it still messed up some years of my life, and I always wondered why I didn't just yell at him to stop, why i didn't push him away or didnt call my parents even tho they were in the house
