  • This method is tried and true at my homestead for over 5 years! It relates to living in the Northern hemisphere. Those of you south of the equator should use the exact method but facing true North instead of true South.

    Awesome what a great way to figure out the angle! Google suggested that the optimum angle would be 36° and in two weeks we figured out that's horse hockey! Our tracker is working good we just had to reinforce the weak point you were talking about! That's when we found out we're not as young as we used to be and lost control of the bank and had to enlist the help of some younger strength lol! Luckily we didn't get hurt to bad just scrapes and bruises! Thank you so much for this video! We have to reset the well panels and now can set the new panels up with your method! God bless Gbear!

The side angle from the main set would be similar to the side at east and west.. if you get what I am saying.. I've always wondered if areas that are desert could be reclaimed into woodlands, jungles, and farmlands by covering them with solar panels to make it harder for water to evaporate. Let in just enough light for plants to grow. Would something like that work?

    • @GBear
      @GBear  Місяць тому +1

      @@mydogsbutler Possibly, but it would need water to start with. This desert is like underarm deodorant...Arid, Extra Dry...🤣👍

      @@GBear I read that solar power during the day can be used to extract moisture from the air at night even in desert regions. I'm not sure the quantities but maybe over a few decades it would eventually act as irregation system to bring life back to deserts.
      I read Saudi Arabia has successfully reclaimed thousands of square miles of desert.They didn't do it with solar but I imagine it would be easier given the advancements in solar the last few years.

    • @GBear
      @GBear  Місяць тому +1

      @mydogsbutler Saudi Arabia leases land in the U.S. and drills wells to grow wheat that all goes to Saudi Arabia. There are farmers fighting to stop it because 'their' wells are drying up. Not a pretty picture.
      I live on what was a giant lake bed a hundred thousand years ago or so. It dried up a long time ago. There is a giant aquifer below, about 400 feet down, but greedy politicians claim it as state property and require us to pay for accessing it, then pay for using it.

    • @mydogsbutler
      @mydogsbutler Місяць тому +1

      @@GBear Acquifiers only have a limited supply of water. An atmospheric water generator powered by solar could pull water from thin air. The question is would the energy and shade provided by solar coupled with AWG be enough to generate enough water over time that it would change a desert into a farm?

    • @GBear
      @GBear  Місяць тому +1

      @mydogsbutler I doubt it. Humidity here is single digit most of the year. I researched humidity catchers early on, and a large one, costing hundreds of dollars in materials to build could only produce maybe 1 liter a day, most days.

    • @GBear
      @GBear  2 роки тому +1

      Remember, this works best on the summer solstice on June 21st. I'm at 34° latitude and ended up with about 25°. I also rechecked on the winter solstice Dec 21, and adjusted for that. It settled for a year round of 28° facing true south.

      @@GBear Thanks for the additional info, and yes I will check over the next few weeks and specifically on June 21! I am working on 3 situations, 1 a small solar boat with toy hauler, 2 a solar supplimented rv tow Suburban, 3 a permanent roof mount setup on a shop. The RV stuff will be tiltable, no permit required. But I'm in California and crazy permits will be required for the roof mount, ground mount and tilting stuff is way too expensive here! So those will be fixed, and I'll confirm with the rv stuff. But, the less I have to tilt the rv stuff the better, for strength and simpler mechanics. All will be small but add up to about 8kw solar and 12 kw battery on the rv's only. Thanks again!!!

      Yeah, solar on vehicles don't need to be set and angled because he vehicle isn't stationary. Solar on a bdlg roof is tough too, because the mounts are designed to fit the roof. My angle finding method is for ground mounted adjustable racks.

    • @markjackson6829
      @markjackson6829 2 роки тому +1

      @@GBear I'm doing the adjustable versions on the vehicles due to limited surface area and need to maximize whr in summer, to run ac ect and winter for some heat ect. When not in use they can supply other stuff. They will transport mostly flat, but most of the time they will be stationary and need quick easy adjustment that is strong for winds ect. But horizontal/flat is bad for winter so need to adjust, especially on the boat, thanks!

    • @markjackson6829
      @markjackson6829 2 роки тому +1

      @@GBear My roof mounts will be on the north side of the bldg, with triangle strong mounts to get the proper sun angle, low slope roof and sufficient spacing. If I wasn't in CA I would definetly go with a ground mount, but here to get an approved one , it will cost more than the whole solar system!!! And I do have an acre in So CA semi desert, open space is not the problem. The system, not only the structure, but they have to be fenced in especially to prevent any trespasser/wondering child from getting access to the solar panels from underneath and especially the wiring! Just in case they were wanting to steal or vandalize the system AND a solar component happned to fail at they same time And they got hurt!? So, no reasonable ground mounts in CA, without spending more money than a new bldg roof type structure to put them on! So I'm expanding my garage with a shop that is pre engineered for the extra weight of the panels and mounts ect, LOL!!!
