Hey Jacqueline! I've been a professional web developer for 8 years and I have been asked to explain to my kids' classmates how to build websites. I was in trouble as I did not want to bore them with coding examples, and I'm so happy to find this excellent tutorial. We gonna create a simple, no-code, and easy-to-maintain classroom site together.
WOW! This is a powerful resource. A lot of us are feeling lost and inadequate with virtual learning. You are wonderful for putting this together and sharing :D Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for a great tutorial. Its not exactly for a brand new beginner not knowing anything about slides, PowerPoint or Google tools, but if you have done a bitmoji basic classroom, this tutorial will be very familiar. This is so awesome, as now I can just make my own buttons to link to as you gave me great ideas and sites! I'm definitely adding this to my list of must keep. Thank you for this, just what I needed.
Thank you for this tutorial! It was very informative. Would you share what your "Check in" is? I caught a glimpse of the form and wold love to use this idea.
I just ask how they are feeling (with emojis or adjectives), what they need from me, and anything they want to tell me. Here is a link to a teacher one I did that will give more ideas! bit.ly/jrichteachercheckin
@@alexandriad216 Of course! I just used the emoji keyboard and put the different colored hearts. On the Mac it is control+command+shift to get to it. Hope this helps!
Thank-you so much for this tutorial!! I'm working on mine now. I was wondering if you could tell me how to upload the super fun/cute fonts. I didn't understand how to import them into my PowerPoint. Thanks again!

So for some I used A Perfect Blend’s Doodles and I also googled whatever I wanted with the word icon and found some things. Hope you find super cute ones!

Hi, Great video! So many great tips I didn’t know about. Can you link the site where you got your free banner.? I checked the links posted with this video, but couldn’t seem to find it. Thank you.
This is a very informative video. I always pick up new ideas from all that I’ve been viewing. One question with the buttons. When you take the screenshot, is the background transparent?
I've searched on your blog for the actual instagram account you got the background from and I'm having a hard time finding it. I would love to look to see what they have available. Could you assist in pointing me in the right direction?
Thank you very much. This video is great to help me set up my website. I have never used power point, just google slides. I am going to give it a try. Have you ever set up a calendar page that is attached to the google calendar? My district uses Google Classroom and I thought it might be something we can connect to. Thank you again!
You could embed the google calendar easily from the insert page. Scroll towards the bottom and you will see calendar. You are so welcome, glad it was helpful!
This tutorial is so very helpful and easy to follow! Thank you so very much! Can I get away with creating my own cool buttons without PowerPoint and only use Google Slides? (I don’t have PP). Thanks!
I'm only 3 minutes in, and I've learned a lot. Would you mind sharing who you get your digital wallpaper from? I have no clue where to go to find this or how to search for this.
On Instagram search for Callie Danielle and GoldenStateClassroom and go to their wallpaper highlights! Those are two of my faves but there are plenty of others too!
I would say a google slides. That way when you update the slides for your newsletter it automatically updates on the site. You won’t have to link again and republish- just update your slides! You could hide the past and future weeks and they would all be in one place. Hope that makes sense!
Love your videos! How did you get a screen grab of your powerpoint slide before inserting as background in G. slides? When a use the snipping tool, the background looks a little blurry.
Google sometimes makes it a little blurry with their readability feature. You can also try putting your powerpoint in present mode to take the screen grab. Sometimes that makes it more clear. Hope that helps!

@@jacrichardson Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I also had trouble with my header being blurry....I did what you mentioned above and it turned out perfect!!! Thanks so much!!!
What made it less blurry forme was to screenshot it and save it that way. I tried saving it as a png and jpg and both ways made it super blurry too. Good luck!

@@lisamcg7335 So most are on their stories and highlights. If you hold down and screengrab it will save to your camera roll. I usually just airdrop or email that to my computer. Thanks for the lovely example and tutorial! It's beautiful. One question about the embed code for Remind. I use Class Dojo. Do you think I could add an embed code for that instead of Remind? And your Remind messages show up here, rather than having parents go to a different site? Wow!
I cannot find "Shape Format" at all in my tools. I did find the fill color, etc, but there was no dropper or colored pencils in More Colors. Do you have a paid version?
I do not. Are you using the desktop version or the web-based one that comes in teams, etc.? You could also try using the dropdown on the font color and say more colors there.

Yes, I share the link. Once you publish, just click the link icon (looks like chain link) at the top beside the publish button and it will give you the link to share. You will need to choose if you want to share with just your domain or with anyone who has the link.
Now that I read this again, I think you meant where to share the link to get it out?! If so, I would email it out or put it in google classroom or however you communicate and then they can bookmark it.
Great video! Thank you. My question is - how do I add a google slides presentation, like your meet the teacher, so it is in "present mode", not edit mode. I've tried several different ways but it always ends up with the viewer needing to click "present." Thanks !
@@jacrichardson thank you for your quick reply. Will this only work on google sites? I tried this, several times on my google classroom page. Does not want to work.
@@jacrichardson Yes, I'm trying to share it on google classroom as an activity. It will not load as a presentation. Not the end of the world but it would be nice if it loaded in presentation mode.
Joanne Henderson for google classroom, for some reason, it will always strip the present or preview mode off and revert to the slides view. I will usually post the link that is “publish to web” in google classroom in this case For google sites, you can use the same, but use the embed code for “publish to the web” under the file menu and it works well.
I am having trouble getting my power point header to upload properly. Every time I try to save it as a PowerPoint slide it says it can't do that. then when I save it as a jpeg, it makes my fonts blurry. How do I upload it without the fonts and all going blurry?
You can just screengrab instead of jpeg. You may also want to try making your PPT full screen in present and screengrab from there. That helps the blurry most of the time! Let me know!

If you are creating the header in PowerPoint, be sure to have the page size set up to about 10x5. You may have to play with the size to get it just right. Hope this helps!

@@ashleyromero6460 yes maam thank you for clarifying i forgot to review my question...
When I upload my pictures for the buttons the top and bottom are cut off. I have tried resizing the shape. How can I fix this?
try clicking the "uncrop" button when you click on the button!
Hope the tip from Callie below helped!
Thanks for helping!
@@jacrichardson thank you!
any reason why my header would look pixelated or not as clear?
If you are creating the header in PowerPoint, be sure to have the page size set up to about 10x5. You may have to play with the size to get it just right. Hope this helps!
And did you figure out how to crop your print screen?!
@@jacrichardson Thanks! I knew how to do it all along, just wasn't sure if there was a quicker/easier way :)
@@jacrichardson It also looks ok during editing but when I go to the preview page, it cuts off the top and bottom of the header?
@@tonitric10 Yea, you just have to tinker with it. It still cuts off the bottom of mine too. The only way around that is to say no banner and just add an image for your header. But, then you will have white space all around it. You may like that better?

Anyone know how to make the site so I can add it to my home screen of my phone. (or how to tell my parents how to do that?)
I actually talk about how to do that in this tutorial! ua-cam.com/video/WT519l8eMHA/v-deo.html
its not letting me upload the screenshot...
I haven't had that happen. Did you try dragging or selecting it when you are uploading?
Remind widget does not work for me - apparently it's not compatible with the new version of Google Sites :( ???? Anyone else having this issue?
Did you do advanced and use wix instead of sites? Other than that, I am not sure why it didn't work for you. I will keep investigating!
