This is important everyone not only in nursing school but in a medical profession. Its important to be able to apply what you learn rather then just memorize the material. Even if you fail, it's better to fail in school then once you're in the real world and people's lives are at stack. Inspirational and motivational! Thanks!

Exactly, I am currently in nursing school in my 4th quarter and mentoring new first years and I tell them no more memorizing it’s applying it because nursing is all about critical thinking. I tell them my motto is “what’s going to kill them first”

My mom is a retired nurse. A couple of years back, I was considering for quite some time to do a mid-career switch into nursing but in the end realised that it's not for me. The reasons are because
    1) I can deal with or handle corpses but i find it very hard to deal with things like seeing a patient who is suffering and in pain - with all the tubes in them, taking their blood samples or clearing bodily fluids from them, cleaning their wounds while they cringe in pain, dealing with emergencies etc etc and yet have to be calm.
    2) dealing with the emotional part of caring for patients especially when death occurs
We need lots of healthcare professionals but unfortunately not many are able to take on the job which can be both mentally and emotionally exhausting. I want to take this opportunity to salute and thank all the healthcare professionals around the world! You may not be aware of this but you're like little angels sent by God to help and take care of his sick people. Keep up the good work gal !

Nursing isn't for everyone. However, remember there are many different types of nursing and they are all valid. If you don't like dealing with people in physical pain, blood etc, that is ok. I am a mental health nurse and don't have to deal with drips, infusions etc. Nurses work in the community, not only hospitals. I have friends that work in schools, and specialist centres for children with learning difficulties. Nursing is such a wide field. Working in a hospital at the bedside is only a small part of the opportunities that nursing holds .

Absolutely true! So long as your program is accredited and you successfully pass your courses and your NCLEX, the rest doesn't matter much. More important is if you pursue a BSN vs. an ADN for your RN because a lot of hospitals will rank BSNs over ADNs if it comes down to close competition for a job.

the biggest thing I have realized is the ability to multitask and stay calm when everything is going haywire. I also saw that this applied to people who were in my nursing degree program. All the people that were constantly hyper stressed all the time over everything never made it. I always got made fun of for seeming like I did not care that much. Truth was, I care a ton and that is why I chose nursing. You just really have to be able to manage yourself and your stress levels, accepting that some things are not within your control to worry about or spend energy on. The people that are high stress and frazzled are the ones I, and most other nurses dread working with on the unit. This is why most nursing degree programs spend a good chunk of time ie a relational theory/practice course on managing yourself and taking care of yourself so you can take care of others!

I just graduated from an accelerated Bachelor's Nursing program in 16 months and let me tell you this: make friends to gain resources. I shared my notes with half the class and in return, I gained awesome notes from people who knew some upperclassmen. Your classmates are your critical resources for lectures and clinical. When I did my rotations, I would always ask my peers for help first because they might know something I don't or vice versa.

I'm not a nurse but there are definitely applicable to any healthcare career. It's definitely worth it all. I remember going to night classes & coming home to do my homework while nursing my infant son. In one module, I did ALL the homework in one weekend just so it would free up time to study & do projects. My teacher almost fainted when I dropped the stack on her desk that Monday! XD

I tried getting into college to study nursing. My dad denied giving me the needed information to pay for my education becuase I need to be 24 to be a dependent of my own financial aid. Did I waste my time filling information about myself and talking to the staff members, touring the school, and even taking my school photo? "Yes." Did I cry about it when I found out my dad is what postponed my further education? "Yes. -Yes I did." Months later, do I still want to be a nurse? "Yes. I do."

I just got accepted from nursing school, it’s DDPN. And I feel so scare but excited, stronger too. I know it’s expensive, but I believe I’m young, I can make money one day to pay back. Money isn’t everything, and it can’t stop my dream. I have taken every step to make my dream comes true when I was 12 years old. I know it’s hard, it’s about responsibilities, saving people lives,...but I won’t give up. I still have like many years to study, so like you said, I won’t fear of fail, I like to fail, I like to make mistakes, but not repeat one mistake twice. Thanks for your sharing. 🥰

the clinical being like a job interview is true!! i had a classmate who got a job on the same floor he did clinical on. esp if your school is well known in the area or frequents the hospital, the managers can get involved with the student nurses and their preceptors. so they can definitely see how you are as a student and handle your patient assignments.

I don't like the idea of becoming a nurse myself but I loved the way you described your experience with nursing. I love how you talked about the people you get to witness becoming better and healthier, that gives me so much joy. it's nice knowing that there are nurses who actually care about their patients and not think of them as work objects. It's 1000% worth it! In one of my first clinical rotations in peds, one of my patient's was a little girl with really bad 3rd degree burns and whenever we came in to change her dressings she would scream and cry it was so heart breaking. My preceptor had told us to do our best to keep her distracted and keep her mind off the pain. So I'm in there with two other people from my clinical group and they weren't doing anything (to be fair they were guys so you can't really fault them in not knowing what a little would like). So I walked over to her and asked who her favorite Disney princess was, no surprise she said it was Elsa, so I asked if she wanted to sing some of Elsa's songs with me while the others changed her dressings. She lit up! She still cried but it wasn't as bad as before. Any other time I'd go in to check on her she'd sing for me. the next week when she was discharged, her family was just leaving when I was getting there for my rotation and she gave me a little Elsa sticker to remember her by. It's still in my pocket notebook.

And what all extra classes should I take in highschool to help me do well in nursing school?

What activities will be helpful as a nursing student to help better land a job after graduating?

I worked at a nursing home while I was in school and it really helped me get comfortable taking care of patients before getting my first RN job in the ER.

Our professors were tough. They acted like they wanted nothing more than to fail us. Now I see why. Nursing is a tough profession. Weaklings will not make it, so better to fail you now in school than later as a nurse.

Stupid question here I'm so sorry.
But can I become a nurse even if I'm really bad at math right now? (9th grade)
I want to work in the medical field but I don't know if I'm good enough.
I can deffinitely improve on my math skills trhough work,I know basic math but when it comes to ecuations, algebra, calculus etc I'm the worst. (Sorry for my english I hope you understand haha 😅😅)

Let’s make this a continuing series where you just sit down and talk about things. These kinds of video make you even more relatable than you already are! Maybe call it “Sit Down Saturday” :)

I’m in grade 10 going into grade 11 and after high school I want to go into nursing and I’ve been so stressed out. I’ve already had to choose my courses to insure my expectance into a nursing school. Do you have any advice to lift this stress off my shoulders?

    • @isabellapezzato3784
      @isabellapezzato3784 4 роки тому

What do you mean choose your courses? I’d tell you to stop stressing about it, it’s too early! Just focus on high school for now, and once you’re accepted into college/university the pre-requisites will prepare you for nursing school.
