This song gets me every time, mostly because I dropped a ten strip at the 1995 Lincoln show, and I started sobbing when I thought it started raining inside Pershing Auditorium at the end of the song.
Seeing the rescue squad play these arrangments and thinking back on how far Trey has come and how far he has brought us, as community, is so beautiful and bittersweet. So many memories, all the way back to my first shows 20 years ago up until these amazing Beacon Jams, I am so thankful for every moment. Thank you Trey, thank you Phish, thank you fans. What a journey.
Well said. I think most of us that have shared in a 20+ year journey would agree. Some view Trey and Phish today as a softer, lesser version than what they were, but I see it as an evolution It absolutely delights me to see Trey happy and creatively inspired. He’s clearly doing what he loves and playing what and how he wants.
i remember listening to this in my dorm room 27 years ago and it takes me right back as if time stood still. One of the most underrated song is an understatement and in these crazy time's God bless you Trey and God bless us all... even though he doesn't listen to what we say....
So Trey is obviously digging deep into his stash to rent the Beacon, pay 8 union musicians their day wage for multiple practice and performance days, who knows how many tech crew and stage hands money to feed their families, and to let us all in on the beauty for free. Make sure that you click on the little button and spend what ever you can during these dismal times to the Divided Sky Foundation. You can, and will, help save a life!
Trey’s voice has gotten so much better with age it gives these sweet songs a beautiful, heart wrenching quality. What a lovely gift to everyone to put this together. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
This morning this song called to my heart, and on this particular viewing I noticed how right after Trey sings the “light above and blue below that drags me down”, the shot changes to show James singing that angelic lullaby harmony with the girls 🥲😭. Like a window into days of future past, a tunnel through linear time, he was still in the body at that time, and he has now joined the great light in the intervening time. So seeing him there, singing that part, behind that lyric, was a breathtakingly beautiful gift and invitation to “remember”; like the outstretched, palm-up, receptive hand of the absolute truth of what will one day come for us all, and to use the time we have here to manifest love and beauty in the here and now, because one day we will all join the great chorus of the light, the great dance. “And in the end, we will all be light” 🕉🙏
Thank you, Sir. Since this pandemic I’ve been delving more and more into your (and Phish’s) music. Also learning quit a bit about you and what you’ve been through. I’ve always been a huge fan, but lately I’ve developed a deep level of respect and admiration for you as a fellow human. I’m sober 8.5 years right now. You, sir, are an inspiration for me to keep that going and not fuck up. Deep thanks, my friend.
Miss this old tune!! The Beacon Theater is such a magical place to see a show, the acoustics sound ridiculous, the kind of stuff that will make you happy ugly cry, lol. I can't wait to get back to live music!! Thank you for this :) and the orchestra is bananas too.
that album is like fine a wine it gets better over time and it's true the fans were skeptical, but I think now they've all grown to love it....that time period there was magical music performed by so many bands... good times
For me, the real magic of Phish lies in these slower songs, i.e., "If I Could I Would," "Waste," "Velvet Sea," "Petrichor," "Fast Enough For You," etc.
One of Tom's best older songs Lyricly. The complaint from older Head's is Phish lyrics are goofy. Fine example of just the opposite. I love all 3 bands. NFA 65-95. I saw you with a ticket stub in your hand 83-??? And TAB with string's kills it☮️
Who here interest izios audience is truly in love with god and truly loves god and talks to god everyday praise to got everyday thanks and for everything
This would be a #1 song in a better, cooler universe than this one. I understand Phish likes to sabotage their own songs that could be radio hits (Waste, Brian&Robert, Heavy Things) by making them longer and/or messing with the tempo, but still it's a felony that this isn't even in the top 100 for any chart ever, including other Phish songs!
Mr. anastasio I really want explain to you that praying is not about getting something to god it's about worship of god because once you come in contact with the creators spirit You know you understand you know Worshiping god is about we're shipping god praying is about communion with god sometimes we pray for help for a selves sometimes from pray for help for others sometimes we just think god for what we see in what we know
This is incredible. Great arrangement of a criminally underrated song.
My favorite ballad
Well Put.
Amen, brother! The composition is really creative and I love playing it on the guitar.
Agree 110%
Heard lifeboy towards the end of second set at my first show. It’s one of my all time favorite memories

The ol indoor rain ☔️ 😂😀❤
This song is underrated
Agreed
...by massive noobs
By who? People who aren't into the Phish ecosystem won't even bother to listen to it, so how would they rate it?
Ya think? Peace
!
Especially the lyrics. They're haunting and poignant.
One of the best songs ever written

I'm sorry I can only req your post once! We have all grown up watching Trey and gang grow up. And we are all much better minnows because of it!

I’m with you man! But, here’s to many more years to come. May the Journey continue.
This song helped me learn guitar and still breaks my heart

@jc who pee'd in your Wheaties today?!?... please take your unwelcome "quit liking what I don't like" energy elsewhere

This is still one of my favorite's after all these years. I remember the first times they played this in the early 90's
Thank you Trey., stay sharp man, keep smiling.
NEVER want this song to stop....

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video... during a time of great strife and sadness it is truly beautiful. I love this song.

🤧⚓️❤️
So beautiful, thank you! ❤️
This is such a great version of Lifeboy
my life is better because of Trey and Phish. Favorite band ever.
I love this song.. one of my favorites, highly underrated I feel.
Hoist is such a great piece of music, and there isn't a bad track on it (in my opinion). Either that or Undermind is my favorite Phish album.
I always loved hoist from day one. When it first came out, alot of phans disliked hoist.Great album, along with billy breaths.Cheers

so, so beautiful -- pierces the heart in a way that's magical, painful and hopeful all at once. awesome arrangement. thank you for this
Just lovely, thank you!
Nice!
So glad that this got the string arrangement treatment. "Drifting" on the last night might be incredible with the Rescue Squad treatment.
I like that idea!
Gorgeous rendition!
Everything He does is golden
love you all
Pure bliss. Thank you Trey
Love the last run of words. What a beautiful piece of art. Ty Mr. Norris
One of my favorite songs, was hard to catch this live glad I caught it live this time on twitch
Treyboy Allstars
Love the vocals. Excellent.
Especially on the studio version, it’s perfectly melancholic.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing it.
Man, I got the chills listening to this one. So nice
Trey you are just a stud .thank you for everthing

Ya Trey
Love this song! Thanks Trey
What a great tune. Amazing with the rescue squad!!!
Trey can we get that curlews call video that was awesome!
I was looking for that blistering Push on 'til the Day myself. Too many highlights this week.
f'n beautiful
'I think we'll keep this between you and me...'
For me, the real magic of Phish lies in these slower songs, i.e., "If I Could I Would," "Waste," "Velvet Sea," "Petrichor," "Fast Enough For You," etc.
Phish never listens to what I say, and you don’t get a refund, if you over pay.

I've slow learned to favor the ballads more than the deep type 2 heavy hitter jams.
@jc yawn, move along
what 3?? this is lame...phish' "deep" lyrics read like jan brady's diary...so cringe.
great version....high harmony vocal too loud in the chorus
Who here interest izios audience is truly in love with god and truly loves god and talks to god everyday praise to got everyday thanks and for everything

Anyone know what kind of acoustic guitar that is?
1943 Martin D28. The sunburst is kind of unusual but original.
Sunburst 1943 Martin D-28
Paper thin vocals
Anyone else bothered by some of treys guitar picking notes are in the left ear on headphones?
Really???? Just enjoy the upload my man. Peace
Not using headphones, but if that is happening, I get it. It would bother me too.
