I like Gwent, but even with this strategy it depends on the draw. You may end up with no spy cards, or the AI might have a scorch card for the very end. It may be better to lose r1, and let the AI exhaust all cards r2 and save a card for r3.
It does my heart good to see all this witcher 3 stuff coming out.
Only problem: So many would be players on PC are kicked out by CDPR at the moment. I was sooo looking forward to play Witcher 3 again. But alas, the performance and the game breaking bugs make that impossible right now ... when all these new videos drop. I hate it

I had the same problem of running 30 FPS (on charge, i have a laptop) and periodically crashing
Disabled ray tracing and now i have 60 FPS no crashes
Just a few bugs, but im used to skyrim

IMHO the Skellige Deck Geralt gets in Toussaint is the most underestimated deck in the game. Nearly nobody uses it regularly, but if done right, it is much stronger than Northern Realms. And - most importantly - more intersting to play. Because with Northern Realms nearly every game is reduced to get the most out of these spies. This gets boring rather soon - at least for me. With the Skellige deck You have to think and develop a tactic.
Agreed. Huge downside though, you have to wait the whole game to get access to it.
Hard agree. I never made an effort to learn or even collect any cards until I started B&W on my second playthrough...Got the Skellige deck and decided they're giving me a final chance to learn, and all I learned was that Gwent is pretty difficult without a single useful neutral card...so I bounced all around the regions playing gwent and collecting neutral cards. I'm now straight up addicted to Gwent, and Skellige is my favorite deck, even though I have very little experience with the other ones. I know all my Skellige cards, their musters, strengths, the best time to play them, and when to lose a round on purpose. Rarely lose to the AI on hard mode now. Went back to Novigrad to do High Stakes and it only took me 2 tries to win the tournament. Wish I put in the effort to get the unique cards you can only get during certain quests, but I'll be sure to change that on my next playthrough.
Even the gwent NPC in toussaint says the skellige is underrated lmao

Using a purely siege heavy deck in the beginning stages isn’t a good tactic, without having a bunch of high powered hero/spy cards at your disposal.
To get those high powered hero/spy cards in the first place, you have to be a formidable player and win them off of tough opponents and tournaments. So, anyone who has the cards you have is already good enough to not need a guide on how to be good.
I feel like it would serve more people to show an early game strategy that can be used to build a deck like you have. Instead of “A Guide On How To Be OP When You’re Already OP”.
Do you have any resources to learn it, I really want to but I don't want to spend a lot of time in developing strategies because I have a shit ton of exams through out the year
I was about to say the same as well. If you have access to these cards, that means you have fought and won against some of the toughest opponents with an inferior deck as well.

My deck is very close to this. Was proud I built a deck like this first try 💪
You are missing a Cinfrid reaver card, there’s a total of 3. One in white orchard, one in Claywich and one in Midcopse. Once you get the third, I’d add it to the deck, ditch the blue stripes commandos and replace them with either Dethmold or another ranged card. That should bring the card count to 22 and you’ll also have a bunch of ranged cards in addition to your siege that will also benefit from commander horns.
Also it’s worth noting that the Gaunter O Dim cards are pretty good to. There’s a total of 3 and can all be bought from the runewright.
What I do, is:
1. Play Northern Realms. Foltest the Siegemaster is OP if you know how to use him.
2. Remove most of the weather cards from your hand, except biting frost and sunny day (one of each). Make sure most of your cards are high level. Remove anything under level 3 if possible, unless they have a good ability like pick up from discard or add +1 to siege weapons (obviously spy excluded)
3. Start by playing a lower level card, just to see what they play. The way to win is by having more cards then the opponent, that way you can get more points.
4. Sometimes, if you have a decoy you can use it on the moderate level card to take it back into your hand. This will exhaust the opponent another card, unless they use their leader ability which I doubt. Probably better to hold onto the decoy though so if they use a spy card you can decoy it and steal it. Spy cards are best, especially mysterious elf.
5. Play a spy card if your card numbers are getting low
6. Play all the sword cards and then Dandelion, who will boost all your sword cards. Also don't be afraid to play hero cards.
7. You want the opponent to have fewer cards than you in the first round. Once that's the case, if they pass and their score is not much higher, just beat them by as little cards as possible and progress. If the gap between their score and yours is huge, don't worry, just pass. They will still have fewer cards in the next round.
8. In the second round, use your biting frost on them and then start placing siege weapons. Don't play sunny days until last minute. Then use your leader card and it'll double all your siege cards. This will get you much closer to winning. Then if they use torrential rain, play sunny days. Throw in a few hero cards on top.
9. You will probably win this round, but if you don't or your opponent only has a few cards left, try to exhaust as many as possible. Assuming you won the previous round and you have a spy card left, play it. Get the cards ready for the next round. It's okay if the opponent wins one round. What matters is that if you get to the third round you have more cards and more powerful cards than the enemy. If they have 1 card in the third round and you have 4 or 5, chances are you'll win.

I did not get into gwent until I was locked out of some gwent quests, and as a result have no Ciri or Geralt hero cards. Can I sub in extra decoy, horns or matching cards (ex. Crinfrid R.) and use your method? Thanks for informative videos!
You can! But reduces substantially the chance to get as many spies as I showed!

Gwent has never clicked with me. I’m gonna do another playthrough and come hell or high water I will understand it before credits roll

How to use general card?
I never lost a Gwent game. I downloaded a mod.
I really really hate gwent, but I need the trophy for the platinum 😭😭
I managed to beat Yoana early in game in only 2 rounds and I won a stupid 2 points elf, is there a way to win good cards or it is totally random?
Surely in the 1st round you should’ve thrown down to normal unit cards as you had 2 medics

Totally understand. The first time I played through back in 2018, I felt very intimidated. Even lost to the tutorial guy in the bar in my first paly through. Just couldn't understand. Now im replaying in 2023 and made a POINT to learn and play it this time. Its got some technical aspects, but its not too bad. Stick with the basic Northern Kingdom King Foltest set first while in Velen so you can learn the basics. Buy every card you see in a merchant's stock. Even if you already own it. Having two of the same thing can help you, and getting cards of different sets will be helpful for you in the future. You got this, king!
