Barycz Fort - Krakow Fortress

It was built in the years 1897-1899 as an armoured fort of close defense. The purpose was to strengthen the outer ring of the Kraków Fortress and protect the Prokocim and Rajsko forts, guarding the approach to the city from the east. The crew consisted of 179 officers and soldiers (artillerymen, infantry and pioneers).
In December 1914, this fort defended Krakow against the Russian army. In 1958, it was used for experiments with the first Polish meteorological rocket
The fort is open to the public. Inside, there is an exhibition devoted to the history of the Krakow Fortress and Poles associated with it.
