CLIP DESCRIPTION:
William (Heath Ledger) faces Adhemar (Rufus Sewell) in the last round of the jousting tournament.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Heath Ledger stars as William Thatcher, a low-born 14th century squire who, in a fit of inspired spontaneity, replaces his deceased employer as the competitor at a jousting competition. Jousting is a pastime only permitted to knights, who are of noble birth, but Thatcher wins and decides to continue his new pursuits. With the help of his two fellow squire friends Wat and Roland (Alan Tudyk and Mark Addy) and none other than the gambling-addicted Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany), Thatcher has soon adopted a false identity and is winning one joust after another on his way to a championship in London. His victories inspire the affection of a female fan, Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), and the ire of a competitor, Count Adehmar (Rufus Sewell), but Thatcher's ruse is threatened with exposure.

Imagine what would’ve happened had Heath Ledger not passed away…. The man was a phenomal actor, and his performance in A Knights Tale always gives me chills when he shouts his Name. Truly a legend that was taken from us far too soon.
I still cry for Heath Ledger. There are some “stars” who possess neither talent nor charisma and live seemingly forever (pretending to be young, with more facelifts than Joan Rivers and ever-younger co-stars) but Ledger was the real deal…
And then as the joker in Batman. 🙌🏼 guy will always be a legend.
:)
I get really emotional thinking about Brandon Lee
Have you ever seen one of his earlier movies called Two Hands? It's an absolute classic. RIP Heath
His helmet was stifling, it narrowed his vision. His shield was heavy, it threw him off balance.
His helmet didn’t narrow his vision , nor shield threw him off balance. He is a trained knight. The only reason he lost is because it’s a movie

“That’s you’re name William; Sir William. Your father heard that.” Gets me every time.
This scene reminds me how so many people doubted Heaths ability to play the Joker. Such an incredible man!
I think it had to do more with the fact that anytime they put somebody pretty in a role playing an evil character people question their ability to do so. However he knew the secret was to totally abandon his own personality and give into playing the character. If there's anything I have to say about it is that it did remind me a little bit of Brandon Lee in The Crow, but that's not a bad thing.
Then he went on to play Ennis Del Mar. "I'm just a pretty boy? Hold my beer."
I knew Health was a good actor so I could believe had it in him
But I remember being deployed and I got my Wizard Magazine (RIP) during mail call and they had pictures of Health Ledger as the Joker in the Batman Begins sequel and my jaw hit the floor
Show it to my division and they’re like “That ain’t pretty boy Heath Ledger. That dude in the picture looks way too unhinged and psychotic to be the teen heart throb”
"Your men love you, if i knew nothing else of you that would be enough." One of the most under rated lines of all time.
Yes 😂
I'm pretty sure every single line James Purefoy speaks in this film is iconic. Couldn't pick a favourite to save my life.
The moment he screams his name makes me tear up every time! Its like he kept his emotions shut back his whole life, in order to follow his path of changing his stars and becoming a knight and in this final moment, he finally lets it all out. its so perfect!
No kidding you cry every time?

2:43 I *love* how the Prince is _more_ excited that William won and not the Count! 🤣 lol
He saw William as a respectable opponent.
Because he found William more noble than the nobles
I love everything about this movie, the soundtrack, the cast, it's all so perfect
RIP Heath Ledger...he was very quickly becoming a legendary actor in his own right. Gone far too soon.
He is legendary.
He spends the entire movie pretending to be someone else, thinking that he could never achieve his dreams as himself---but in the very last moment before victory, his battle cry is his own name. Poetic cinema.
Not only that, but he is thoroughly stripped of his disguise throughout the final act. Adhemar outs him as a pretender, stripping his pseudonym and rankings as Sir Ulrich, then thrown in the stocks to strip away his pride. Then in the match, Adhemar blow by blow strips him of his shiny harness of which none would argue makes him appear noble, piece by piece, and his health, very nearly rendering him unable to ride.
All that is left of the man on the horse is William, bared before the world, very much the young boy who swore to become a knight, about to Hail Mary his way into the stars.
Poetic doesn't come close.
@@ianwebb6686 Didn't think I could appreciate this scene even more, but you changed that! Cheers bro
@@ianwebb6686He changed his stars! 🌟
@ianwebb6686 - awesome summation of an utterly epic finale. Thanks dude, and RIP to the one and only Heath "the Thatcher's son Ledger".
The after scene where the bad guy is looking up at will and his friends always freaked me out. Because he is clearly not laying on the ground so I thought he was impaled on something.
Benji Huynh Yeah. Adamar was in such shock that he was knocked off of his horse that he didn’t realize he actually fell, which made him hallucinate that he was floating.
The "You have been WEIGHED....... You have been MEASURED......" Scene is one of the best
What this town needs a better class of knight!
wtf...
Same here
One thing that always gets me?
The moment when William's father hears the words 'SIR WILLIAM THATCHER!' and realizes why these strangers insisted an old blind man come to a tournament he couldn't see.
“In summary, armor ringing, helmet broken, three cracked ribs, ego hemorrhaging. Physical recovery six weeks. Full psychological recovery six months. Ability to find Thatchers wanting, neutralized.”
In summary, discombobulate.

This was the first film I ever saw as a child I felt a huge connection with William as if it was myself.
I remember reinacting this scene wearing plastic armour using a broken lightsavour that I had that never lit up ever I used the pillows as adamar these times were my happiest times.
This was the first movie i ever saw him in. And while Heath Ledger is probably more famous and known for other movies, this movie stands above them as a timeless classic. This is a movie one can always watch and every generation can enjoy.
"The next time we meet count adhemar, you will look at me flat on your back"
And William did hold on to his words

Great movie. Great fun. And very rewatchable. And Heath.
that "WILLIAM" is at the same level of epic as the "FREEDOM" from Braveheart.

Your father herd that. Gives me chills every time
“William!!!!!!!” I want my son to be as successful as William and I want the honor to sacrifice as his father did.
A criminally underrated movie. Allstar cast, great soundtrack, great story. The director of this movie would go on to write and direct 42 (movie about Jackie Robinson).
This is one of those movies every boy/young man should see
Best childhood
I grew up to this movie
This movie has no business working yet it defies the odds and does magnificently!
Be as hyped for your boys as Edward was for William.
There are not even any words in the English language to describe how much I miss Heath.😭😭😭
I was weighed once, and I was measured. Turned out I was tall and kind of fat.
Heath Ledger yelling “WILLIAM!!!!” as he charged into battle actually has historical precedent.
The two best examples I can remember was Walter Manny, a knight of Edward the III, and James Douglas, knight of Robert the I. Both of them would loudly scream their name while in battle.
Now if only they could make todays movies as good as this
This scene always makes me cry
Over 20 years of watching this classic, I never got past how hard Wlliam hit Adhemar to knock him backwards off his horse.
One of the greatest compliments a man could hear

Best part is that William not only won the tournament, but he got Adomar's horse.
You know that Princess got lucky that night when a Prince gets that excited about a win at HIS tournament!
Ye olde phwoar!!!
He was lucky in that he got a to marry a woman he loved.
He died not long after this era. Was never king. Greatly loved in his own country, hated and feared in France.
Vision, Robert Baratheon, K2SO, and the joker. Wow.
More like JARVIS, Robert Baratheon, Hoban Washburne, and the Joker.
And lydia (breaking bad)
Wash, Jarvis, Robert Baratheon and the Joker walk into a tavern...
If you frame-by-frame through the moment of impact, you can see Heath's double's lance shatters in two places. The very large, very dangerous splinter between the two whips just past his unarmored left ear. That could have gone badly.
It was perfectly safe because the lances were made out of pasta, that's not even a joke either they were literally giant pieces of pasta.
@@Milliardo__Peacecraft Still could have poked an eye out.
This movie has so much heart!!
My theory has always been that the armor itself weights quite a bit, not to mention the lance, so knights basically just hold it supported by their armpit and aim it, then at the last moment the knights try to move the lance forward to add more momentum but since they're wearing armor it doesn't add that much. William without the armor just full on launches the lance so far ahead that Ahdemar doesn't even connect his hit.
This movie is pure fantasy, this isn't how Jousts were done
Plus, it's Hollywood. They can do whatever they want.
"Your father heard that" may be the best line of all time..
This scene Still giving me chills ❤
2:49 That’s a true bro right there.
Breaks the lance at the base! Such an epic movie and moment.
Great Movie! He is sorely missed!
R.I.P.
Loved this movie. Heath was great.
And that concludes our story of a man raised in the lowest level of life rose himself and his comrades to glory and honor because of one simple Idea. Never yield, never withdraw from adversity and keep headstrong for you will be seen for the great deeds you do. Knights are not originally chosen, nor are they born. They are created by that heartfelt desire to be UNDEFEATED.
When your whole life boils down to one moment...
When you resort to pettiness to win a battle... this is your just reward! lovely poetic justice!
This movie shows true love and inspiration and the willingness to fight for your dreams no matter what the cost. As long as it is true and pure in the path you take..love triumps over true evil..sad this world does believe in that anymore. This world is full of hate and greed. Love has been gone for such a very long time. A true Knight's tale!!!
Its a simple good movie, not bad, but a good one
dude is clearly floating above the ground
This has always bugged me to no end.
that was metaphorical because William got into his head.
It's supposed to be happening in his head in between when he got knocked off the horse and when he hit the ground.
