- What's the real-life difference of the supercharger on your 1st gen v6 Tacoma? That's a question I've been asking myself since day one of the ownership. In this quick iPhone video, I attempt to answer that.
Heres the stats on the trucks.
Silver truck is Supercharged 2001 Tacoma double cab 4x4, 3.4l v6, stock 4:10 gears on 33 inch bfg km3. Allpro real leaf springs and bilstien 5100s. Supercharger, trans cooler, cold intake, 7th injector.
Gold truck is a 2001 tacoma double cab 4x4, 3.4l v6 automatic stock 4:10 gears. 32.8inch bfg ko2s Carrying a camper shell front and rear racks and a full camping setup.. Maybe about 400 pound extra over the silver truck? - Авто та транспорт
The added power would be nice but I’ll be honest and say the only reason I want a SC for my 1st gen Tacoma is the hear the whine. Haha 🍻
the best wine there is!
Supercharger on the 3.4 makes a huge difference especially when you do a smaller pulley. I swapped my 3.0 for a Supercharged 3.4 and what a HUGE difference
Wow what a difference, thxs for sharing 😎
You bet!
both trucks are super clean!
Thanks Spencer! The silver one only has 100k miles!
man those superchargers are a real good way to end up deep in the rabbit hole. My truck was suppose to get a blower (its in my basement waiting now) only to end up having an issue with the block being rotted out.. so now its getting a built motor, rebuilt trans.. and i discovered my frame had issues... so a new frame.. needless to say thing escalate quickly with a blower!
oh gezzz! yep well a horsepower rabbit trail is at least fun to follow
Hey man,
Whats the mileage on your truck?
I heard from a guy that supercharged his Tundra, not to waste money in regearing. Spend it all in the supercharger.
Do the whole enchilada, though.
Not just the supercharger. I think I saw it for $4500 with the headers and 7th injector.
If you want to spend some money before the supercharger, I really recommend the Koyo all aluminum radiator for a 3rd gen 4Runner make sure you put a 170 degrees thermostat from Napa at the 6 o'clock position and youll really be ready for the supercharger then. The cooling system is everything.
Awesome rig by the way. I have the same year in red!
YOU HAD ME AT SUPERCHARGER!!!..
If you coukd do specs of the trucks in terms of a workaround..but great content keep it up
Noted!
Great vid man
thank you!
I’ve got a ‘13 DCSB, 33 M/Ts, fully armored, stock 4.56...and a Magnuson Supercharger. Adding that SC made a very significant difference in climbing hills, dead stop acceleration and passing speed. Having all the weight I do made my 4.0 sluggish. If you can, I highly recommend adding the SC. It’s a dramatic difference!! @tacodarkness
Thats awesome insight, thank you!
Wow thank you for posting this. Actually makes me content without spending 5k for a supercharger
ha yep, i was feeling the same way when i did this race. I just invested in 4:88s gears so ill have to re race and see how it goes
Look around for a used one, I just spent $500 on one for the 3.4
I love the fact you had the kid lol.. I'm the same way
Not as much of a difference as I would have expected, but I'm sure it feels like it when you're the one on the driver's seat.
I wonder what the difference would be if your buddy got a piggy back to fix the afrs? Or even just 7th/ meth?
Finally a comparison video👾 thankyou!

heck ya thanks!
Yup I'm getting that super
And does it west out the engine faster if you use it a lot.. and by how much more?
Cut the engine life in half? Say you could have gotten 425k out of it and now you only get 300k and say (example) you're just putting the charger on at 200k?
What PSI is he running? Methanol or no?
Supercharged requires premium fuel.... do the deck plate mod, and a high flow muffler (maybe CAT)... still not happy I heard LCEngineering cams change it for the best!!! But check that you won’t have to run premium if you do cams.
Dobyou have 4.33s? Or planning thx
I’m thinking about going to 4.56’s (currently w/ stock 4.10’s) reason being I’m an east coast guy and want to explore all of the West coast and lots of traveling. In your opinion is the 4.88’s too high of RPM on the highway? I also have 33”s.
I had a 99 runner on 33s 4.88 put the MPH near perfect to stock and back in the power band... I would do 4.88 over 4.56 on 33s
Hey Siri, add a supercharger to my cart
haha ive tried that. Didnt work haha
whats the price of supercharger ?
honastly my tundra with the 4.7 with 391 gears on 33s cold use some 4.10s just to handle the tires
yes always a great idea to re-gear if you can afford it. The truck will work so much less
agreed. i'm torn between gears or long tube headers and dirty deeds exhaust for 2021. 2022 i'll do which ever is left.
mpg of sc taco in city?
I would love to have both a supercharger and 4.88 gears in my 3rd gen 4Runner.
oh ya thats the holy grail for sure
@@OverlandUnderBudget I may end up trading for an FJ Cruiser though so that dream might not happen lol.
Is it the TRD supercharger?
I’m ordering gears soon. Just have to find someone to install them 😁
Heck ya Marcus! i really want to do 4:88s and front locker
stock 4:10s for life (until you try to go uphill with fully loaded gear in the back)
I had a 1st gen TRD supercharger. The power was nice but the engine pinged once a month or so.
Pinged?
@@luke_almquist Yes, in other words, the engine was knocking, or detonating when it was not supposed to.
Ayo I have a trd supercharged taco wanna drag race
Yeah ur loaded down it's not a huge gap u need to be empty also
Yes totally agree. And under estimated the weight difference. I know In the video the gap looks bigger then it did in person. I want to try this again with my 4;88 gears!
one really needs to add headers, better exhaust and intake air flow to get the most out of the truck.....but also make fuel delivery improvements like the 7th injector type mods or you will eventually end up changing some cracked heads ask me how I know. Fun factor is awesome. On the mountain passes it's only the big diesels that'll pull away and that's only if it's driver is on their game. Most aren't ready because they are stunned at what just happened....that little Tacoma just blew past them whilst towing a travel trailer up a huge long hill. ua-cam.com/video/oYSU6iMz1SQ/v-deo.html
Nice vantage trucks! 👍
Sweet! Now pull him in the cayenne lol
haha the Cayenne could pull both trucks on a trailer and still win
