That makes her the most diabolical character of all and I think one day, Homelander will come to regret visiting her the first time for "advice." Homelander is Sage's revenge against the world, for how she was ignored because of her race and her age, when she could have saved her grandmother. Now the power structure that ignored her and let her grandmother die is about to be ground into dust. Revenge doesn't care if the whole world dies, as long as it succeeds.

Remember, Sage said A-Train was good for spreading misinformation, and A-Train telling The Boys about the Shifter was what led them to the Shifter’s apartment and finding out about the plans to kill Bobby. Knowing what we know, It’s strongly implied that Sage knew A-Train was gonna lead The Boys to the Shifter’s apartment - and that Sage told the Shifter to set up his apartment to make it look as if they’re gonna do a simple assassination on Bobby (evidence is the plans were out in the open and Shifter was already hiding in a closet before they came) and what this does is make The Boys and Bobby focus on the wrong objective (active defense instead of information control) while Shifter came along and recorded Bobby with literally no pushback. Neumann did not need to be dead for the other part of the plan to work, which was to get Calhoun to become President, since Calhoun is actually loyal to Homelander and weak. I think Sage anticipated that there were a thousand ways Neumann would’ve been prevented from becoming president and even planted a few. Sage obviously knew about Homelander’s distrust for other people and incompatibility with Neumann, but she also provided The Boys with actual evidence of an assassination plot in the form of the plans in the Shifter’s apartment, increasing the chances that Bobby would condemn her publicly. So there’s only so many ways things could go. If Bobby dies and Neumann becomes president, The Boys go public that it was on Neumann’s orders, and Calhoun becomes president. It’s a win. If Bobby lives, Bobby condemns Neumann and gets arrested for the video, and Calhoun becomes president. It’s also a win, and is what happened. Regardless, Calhoun becomes president whether or not Neumann lives or die. The outcome for Neumann was either she stays on Homelander’s side but with no influence (meaning Homelander could kill her or she continues working for him) or she joins the Boys (meaning Homelander could definitely kill her and The Boys since by that point he’s already endorsed by Calhoun). Neumann’s death was the curveball, but in the end, it affected absolutely nothing.
