The Gimme More music video and the album cover it self are tragically bad but iconic for their trashy aesthetics. I love the Gimme More cuz it looks so low budget. The whole album era captured 2007 as a year in Britney’s life perfectly. Looking at the cover or anything related to it and you’re immediately sent back to that year.
As a long life long fan of Britney listening to the audio book (physical copy is yet to arrive). I wouldn’t say much shocked or was new to me outside of the abortion, which sounded horrific. But the important part is her perspective on said big events in her life.
Small glimpses behind the scenes like recording an album etc is what I wanted selfishly the whole book to be about. But as you mentioned that’s not what we got. But I get it, this is a memoir for casual readers and fans. Not us nerds that care about the music and the making of it.
I “enjoyed” the pre fame stuff the most i think. Her being a bit of a rebellious smoking 13 year old girl etc as you mentioned. Reading that makes one wonder how they cleaned her up so well that she then went on to become the girl next door role model of our generation. When she could’ve easily ended up as P!nk from the sounds of it.
There are parts that clearly are meant to connect the dots when it comes to her family’s drama and traumatic background to how she was treated by her family. It’s really messed up.
She never, due to the conservatorship spoke about any of the big events, outside of the brilliant Circus era documentary “Britney For The Record” which in hindsight shocks me that it was ever even made since it revealed quite a lot about the early days of the conservatorship.
Overall it’s a good read but disappointingly short and not super rich on details that i care for. Mariah’s memoir was shorter too but it felt jam packed with inside information about her artistry. While Britney’s book feels like a guide to the 2000s celebrity culture. Which is timely with gen Zs obsession with the 00s.
The misogyny of the 2000s looking back was absolutely disgusting and a big low point pop culture wise. Even if it did give us great classic albums like Blackout, it was the times of assholes running the media outlets and male comedians giving too big of a stage.
I’m always going to admire Britney for her strength and resilience. At times it sometimes seems that people want her to be a tragic figure more than anything. But for me she’s a symbol of hope and a survivor that went through things that a lot of us can’t being to comprehend. I mean being under a 13 year long conservatorship alone, how she got through takes a certain person to be able to handle.
P.S hearing her speak so poorly of the onyx hotel tour hurt a bit as a fan since it’s my favorite tour of hers. AND I like the book cover, it’s an imagine i hadn’t seen before and I from the age of fifteen have seen every photoshoot she’s done lol.

What had me hooked on the book was how Britney never had a strong family foundation behind her, rooted in abusive patriarchy to keep the women in line and obedient. It's a never ending toxic cycle.
Her parents are solely just absent minded, narcissistic and selfish lard eating imbeciles who were slithering like snakes in the grass waiting for Britney to be at her most vulnerable and distressed and then sink their fangs into her and mooch off her riches.
I do wish the memoir had some extension on her discography, whether she enjoyed a certain album or not. Though she does reflect her joy on recording Baby One More Time and Blackout, sharing her frustration and disgust with the Onyx Hotel tour (which is my favourite tour), I would've loved to have heard a lot more.
It's nice to hear that she speaks highly of her former chaperone/P.A Felicia Culotta, who is truly 100% a godsend 😊😇
Also her friendship with Madonna was the key to building Britney with enough agency and courage to stand up to her family her managers and the public during her rebellion phase.
The chapters in which Britney opened the floodgates regarding Justin and how he used their breakup as fuel to launch his solo career exemplifies how cruel he was being with his revenge narrative.
He seemed quite upright smug about embarrassing Britney as the "harlot who had broken the heart of America's golden boy". Did he really need to do that? NO!
Another good part of the book, was when Britney acknowledges all the misogyny from creepy middle aged journalists who felt entitled to examine and value her solely for her blossoming sex appeal or whether or not she was still a virgin as her record label (Jive) had propelled her into multi million dollar superstardom by marketing her as a baby faced Lolita- as mentioned by her 1999 Rolling Stone cover, which I do agree was very creepy and predatory to capturing a 17 year old girl in that light.
In addition to this, the journalists, American media and general public never valued young women like Britney in the 2000s for their talents or accomplishments, but how they did not perform "the correct idea of femininity" whatever the hell that means 🤔
Here's the truth. Britney Jean Spears is not your Madonna Whore fantasy, she is not the role model that parents should force upon their own children, she is a super talented musician and performer, a loving mother but otherall a woman who is now recovering from trauma ❤
