Kakai first started out as a theater actress. She was discovered by Ricky Rivero in 2003 after her explosive appearance in the play, Alikabok. Rivero asked her to audition for a drama series directed by Lauri Dyogi titled Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay.[1] She then started appearing on television shows and movies through supporting roles, but was recognized when she appeared as the villainous and evil Matilda in Kampanerang Kuba, Angelina in Kokey and most recently as Marj in the Filipino-Thai movie, Suddenly It's Magic. From 2010-2011, she did the horror-comedy sitcom, My Darling Aswang, in TV5 but stayed with ABS-CBN.

A little Tagalog lesson :
You can use the word BAKIT (WHY) as a question by itself. The phrase in the song "BAKIT NGA BA" signifies wonder in the person saying it, as if thinking to herself/himself why something happens or is happening. Directly translated, it means "why is it".
So, "bakit nga ba mahal kita?" means "why is it that I love you?"
From what I remember, she used to style Lea Salonga but Lea said Kakai should forge her own path in musicals/theater. Kakai followed what Lea said and now she acts on TV and in theater.

Kakai is a very talented person! She's also and actress, both in movies and in theater and she has the versatility to do drama as well as comedy. One of the musicals she's been in is Rak of Aegis which will be shown online on July 31.

Kakai did well here. That style helped her a lot. She is a good singer, sings much better than a whole lot of people. IMO, though, she struggles sometimes. As others have said, she's more known as a movie/TV comedienne. She dabbles in theater acting, too. In fact, she was part of the local musical RAK OF AEGIS, which songs are all Aegis songs.
The confusion of the words structure in tagalog to english and how waleska trying to explain to his brother is just so adorable to watch..

We use "ba" in some questions, for example:
"mahal mo ba ako?" - Do you love me?

this is one of the most painful songs of the phil, translation to english didnt do justice... i almost cried at the end when she was in pain, its more of saying why cant i get u out of my head of my life why do i still love u despite the fact u dont love me back and u uve moved on with someone and im hanging here just looking at u still loving u from a distance... oh my i got carried awah with thw way she sang those painful lines in the end... 👏👏👏👏

Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita is literally translated here as " Why do I love you." But when you go by the way it is expressed in Tagalog it accurately translates to, "Why is it that I love you".
Bakit nga ba mahal kita, would be literally translated to WHY DO I LOVE YOU, but emotionally it is closer to: Yeah, why is at that i love you..

Kakai Bautista is more popularly known as a comedienne/actress but it"s not surprising that she can sing well. Most (if not all) comediennes in the Philippines are excellent singers too. Especially those who started their careers at Comedy Bars where the ability to sing is also a must aside from making people laugh. 🙂

Bakit (WHY)
NGA and BA are usually used in asking questions to emphasize the degree/quality of emotion from the speaker. You can use either of the two, but it means a high degree of emotion when used BOTH. They are also aesthetically added to end a Pinoy sentence with a feeling? I guess that's why PINOYS are emotional when it comes to language.

Bakit- why. Mahal kita- love you. Nga ba- doesn't really mean 'do'. Nga Ba- is like an emphasis on the question as a reminder. If nga ba is removed, will mean 'why do l love you', add nga ba will be like 'i forgot, but why do I love you?' weird but amazing 😁
We cannot directly translate Tagalog to English so it is always roughly translated. "Bakit nga ba" more or less means "Why is it" or just "Why" and "Mahal kita" is I love you. So it should be "Why is it that I love you" ("that" is added to complete the statement) and to simplify it more it becomes "Why do I love you" as shown on the translations.

She's a great singer but although beauty is relative sometimes opportunity in singing career is given to the more commercial 'beauty'.
It's one of the reason why Jaya on your podcast express her doubt because of her hair and complexion.

this song is quite hard to sing that it is now trending in the philippines as a song challenge...gigi de lana, eumee capile among others have done the challenge but i would recommend you a new and upcoming singer anthony castillo doing this challenge...it is good and to hear it in a man's voice...anthony is a current contestant at tawag ng tanghalan...he did the challenge with gigi's band and was an impromptu one....btw, kakai bautista is more known as a comedian than a singer...there are several comediennes who are good singers too like ethel booba and kay brosas.....
