If you have erasable highlighters, definitely choose them over regular ones. In a show I'm doing now, as soon as I got my part I highlighted all my lines, cues, and stage directions. When I went to the first rehearsal, I found out that the director had sent me the wrong email and tat I played a different part. Thankfully, I had used an erasable highlighter, so I could redo all my highlighting

That makes a total of 9 narrators. But I actually like it because the Narrator is a HUGE role for us inexperienced high school girls.

I'd reccomend this colored sort of see through tape where you can clearly see what your marking under it I know about this tape because my piano teacher used it when I always messed up on a specific note
I’ve been double cast before! It was for my last show, A Midsummers Night Dream there were just too many characters with like, one-three lines, so one night you were a minor character and the other you were a major character I didn’t mind it tbh. It was just a little stressful to learn my blocking and everything for each one, at first.

3:03 - This tip has helped me so much. I’m in a production of puffs and I’m playing 6 different characters with different accents, and this helps me remember which accent to use.
My high school did a two person play last year and we actually triple cast the show. It was kind of interesting. We had two juniors paired together, a senior and a freshman, AND a junior and a sophomore. (It was Jerry Finnegan's Sister!)

I color code my highlights and post-its in my script too. A color each for character name, stage directions, lines, and cue lines. I get many odd looks on table read days... it's nice to know I'm not alone! I was double cast in 12 Angry Jurors last year... I had 8 different highlighter colors going on (in a perfect world, it would have been 8, but alas, I could not find 2 more colors, so my name and stage directions matched colors for each character). It was blue, yellow, and green for Juror 9. Juror 11 was orange, pink, and purple. My script looked like a highlighted rainbow!

For me, dependent are what I get in school I can keep it, (because The sixth grade kids are sneaky) I will constantly make notes on what's think of a character, but if it's something I can hang on my wall, I'll put in my stage directions. I collect colored post it notes and those lined mead notes all the time for writing down my lines in point form in order to memorize them. Office supplies is an actor's best friend!
I just got Duffy in a professional show of Annie! I was really hoping I would get Annie and people who were auditioning kept telling me they knew I would but this one girl who ALWAYS gets the leads in this company got her:( Also they changed most of Duffys lines to go to other people and she doesn't sing Fully Dressed anymore

The shows I've been in that have little kids in them will have double cast roles for them! Because the tiny humans get tired, they would switch every night. I also love color-coordinating my script! I'll also sometimes keep a separate journal for finding the character. I've got an Ilse one going right now... decorating it with lots of floral stickers! :)
in my high school production of carousel, we had six performances and we TRIPLE cast Julie Jordan, Carrie Pepperidge, Nettie, Mullins, and Enoch Snow. One of my favourite tips for marking up a Shakespeare script is to print the script (if possible) single sided, and write the subtext and/or no fear Shakespeare version of the lines on the backside of the previous page. I was recently in Twelfth Night and Maccers, and I used this tip during Maccers, and it was a whole different experience
Also, my school does double casting, especially for big roles. Two years ago, in Alice and wonderland, only Alice and the queen of hearts were double cast, and last year in twelfth night all the main or secondary roles were double cast. As someone who was not double cast, it definitely made me appreciate some of the actors over others :P
In Utah we have a bunch of non union theatres that double cast shows. They will have a cast that performs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. While the other cast will do Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It works incredibly well for actors who have families, jobs, or school! It’s always nice because of the longer runs if you need to call out one day because of an emergency, you have someone who can play your part that night!

also my school does things where when one character becomes drastically different we doublecast that character. for example, we had an ogre and a regular fiona and the wicked witch and the old hag are 2 different people in snow white

Grade 8 we did double casting for Oz! Lol it was a mess. elementary school was a time. But the way I mark up my script, is i highlight verbs in one colour, nouns in one, and adjectives in another. If its a small scene for an acting class, I usually type it out, and print it, cut it up so i know where the beats are in each scene, and that way it gives me more room to write out notes *especially if its small* i usually write my characters intentions on the left, and blocking on the right or above a line. but hell ya for post it notes and colour coding. When i was in guys and dolls last year, i played Aunt Arvida (uncle arvide) and was the understudy for Adelaide. Those flags saved me i had a set of colours for all my actual scenes/songs and another set for just Adelaides
We're currently doing hairspray at my school and since it's considered such a big show for us we did have double casting for some leads. Also I totally use post it notes all the time and my scripts look the same as yours haha. Love your videos
Only time i've been double cast was in Drowsy Chaperone I was double cast as Drowsy, we had very different takes on the character so it was interesting to see between nights how that was brought out, and we had a few fun things where when one was Drowsy and the other was a random maid that we interacted with each other and always helped each other with the quick changes cause we were the only ones who knew when they were
AHHH, I did the exact same thing with my Music Man libretto, for Marcellus. I tabbed any song I was in at the top, different color for each act, and entrances on the side, in divided colors for acts. Hahaha, I was actually surprised, my cast members thought i was weird.
My school did double casting for a couple of musicals (I was an instrumentalist in the pit). I was pretty close friends with every member of the cast, which was double cast, and both casts were different in the way they did the show. In most cases with double casting, one cast always seemed to perform better than the other. This was the case in our situation. For one cast, we had to cut around 75 measures of music because they couldn't fully perform the dance number. We were supposed to cut it for both to make it easier on us in the pit, but the 'better' cast forgot on opening night, so we had to frantically play what we thought was removed. We only learned that it would be cut maybe a week or so before opening, so we knew how to play it, but it was still a hassle.

I wasn't in the show but in the first year of Secondary School we did a full uncensored version of Billy Elliot (there was ONE censored version) and they double casted that.
Oh in high school double casting was the norm! We did a production of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown four years ago and the lead girls were triple cast!! (Kind of a reason why I was very angry I didn't get Lucy...)

I know this is an old video but if anyone happens to find my video, my tip when marking, if I'm working with someone on stage, I will write a little of their blocking, so if I'm rehearsing at home I can get a visual of what they're going to do and the director will be satisfied that I didnt forget/mess anyone up
Thanks this is super helpful for marking my script for Addams Family! And I have done a double castes show and it was fine. (Disclaimer ) I wasn't double castes because I was ensemble so maybe it's different for principles.
The theatre departments I work with always let me keep the script. In my early scripts, I drew... like a lot. There was a little cartoon for every song in Shrek, as an example. Now, I just highlight lines and write stage directions/blocking. I also make puns like everywhere to cheer myself up, in case I'm having a bad day when I'm learning lines :D

TIP If your script is of low physical quality (falling apart, pages bend easily, tears etc.), carefully take out the pages and put them in a display/binder folder. This also is great in case you get any extra pages (like songs).

i have a much simpler method lol. i highlight my lines in one color (usually yellow), my cues in another color (usually orange), and my stage directions in another color (usually pink)
We double cast shows all the time! I'm currently playing David Sarnoff in The Farnsworth Invention (incredible play by Aaron Sorkin) at my school and we have 19 people playing 74 parts

My schools theatre is doing Noises Off and Im playing Dotty Otley (Mrs. Clackett) and it's so different cause Im playing a person... who is playing a housekeeper... in a play??? So the script looks weird cause we're memorizing a play within a play. If you havent seen it, definitely give it a look!!! Thespians usually love it cause it's showing what its like to be backstage or running a dress rehearsal
For our production of 'les misérables' we do double casting because it's a school edition and in the uk if you are under 16 you can't do every show so we have two teams red and black❤️🖤
Last year we did double casting for into the woods (we did the whole show as a 8-18 children's theatre, I know, that's crazy but we were good) and I was milky white in two shows and granny and the fake cow in the other two shows

I did les mis TRIPLE CAST (and I got Joly and like legit 7 other roles in that show) and one of my understudies had no idea what she was doing so yeah that was fun

For Into the Woods which I did last war with my high school I was Lucinda and we had a lot of different mood changes so we went from haughty to mad to insane to happy to scared to dead and so anytime I changed a mood I would change my postit color and I use the big postits for any notes my director gives because she's strict and gives tons and then I use the flags to mark entrances I highlight blocking in one color and dialogue in another I found it works pretty well. I think it's crazy to look at the difference between my into the woods script and the script for the straight play I'm performing this weekend
I am currently doublecast in a local community theatre type thing of Lion King Jr. I'm Shenzi! I share the role with one other girl. Some roles are up to triple-cast (like Nala, young Nala, young Simba) because the director tries to include as many people as possible. She's always done it this way to encourage people to participate and buy tickets because I live in south Arkansas so there isn't much of a theatre crowd. Last year they did Wizard of Oz and on your off-night you'd be an Ozian. This year I don't know what you do on your off-night...... yikes. I'm ALSO the lead in my school play (auditions were thursday) and still actively competing in forensics tournaments (competitive drama type thing) in Duo Interp which is a thing where you get a partner and a script and you prepare the piece and take it and compete with it????? AND I'm taking a "group acting" event to Thespian Festival. So what I'm saying is that I have to learn four scripts right now. :)))))))))))))))))))))

Grade 8 we did double casting for Oz! Lol it was a mess. elementary school was a time. But the way I mark up my script, is i highlight verbs in one colour, nouns in one, and adjectives in another. If its a small scene for an acting class, I usually type it out, and print it, cut it up so i know where the beats are in each scene, and that way it gives me more room to write out notes *especially if its small* i usually write my characters intentions on the left, and blocking on the right or above a line. but hell ya for post it notes and colour coding. When i was in guys and dolls last year, i played Aunt Arvida (uncle arvide) and was the understudy for Adelaide. Those flags saved me i had a set of colours for all my actual scenes/songs and another set for just Adelaides

Only time i've been double cast was in Drowsy Chaperone I was double cast as Drowsy, we had very different takes on the character so it was interesting to see between nights how that was brought out, and we had a few fun things where when one was Drowsy and the other was a random maid that we interacted with each other and always helped each other with the quick changes cause we were the only ones who knew when they were
AHHH, I did the exact same thing with my Music Man libretto, for Marcellus. I tabbed any song I was in at the top, different color for each act, and entrances on the side, in divided colors for acts. Hahaha, I was actually surprised, my cast members thought i was weird.

My school did double casting for a couple of musicals (I was an instrumentalist in the pit). I was pretty close friends with every member of the cast, which was double cast, and both casts were different in the way they did the show. In most cases with double casting, one cast always seemed to perform better than the other. This was the case in our situation. For one cast, we had to cut around 75 measures of music because they couldn't fully perform the dance number. We were supposed to cut it for both to make it easier on us in the pit, but the 'better' cast forgot on opening night, so we had to frantically play what we thought was removed. We only learned that it would be cut maybe a week or so before opening, so we knew how to play it, but it was still a hassle.

I wasn't in the show but in the first year of Secondary School we did a full uncensored version of Billy Elliot (there was ONE censored version) and they double casted that.
Oh in high school double casting was the norm! We did a production of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown four years ago and the lead girls were triple cast!! (Kind of a reason why I was very angry I didn't get Lucy...)

I know this is an old video but if anyone happens to find my video, my tip when marking, if I'm working with someone on stage, I will write a little of their blocking, so if I'm rehearsing at home I can get a visual of what they're going to do and the director will be satisfied that I didnt forget/mess anyone up

Thanks this is super helpful for marking my script for Addams Family! And I have done a double castes show and it was fine. (Disclaimer ) I wasn't double castes because I was ensemble so maybe it's different for principles.
The theatre departments I work with always let me keep the script. In my early scripts, I drew... like a lot. There was a little cartoon for every song in Shrek, as an example. Now, I just highlight lines and write stage directions/blocking. I also make puns like everywhere to cheer myself up, in case I'm having a bad day when I'm learning lines :D

If your script is of low physical quality (falling apart, pages bend easily, tears etc.), carefully take out the pages and put them in a display/binder folder. This also is great in case you get any extra pages (like songs).

i have a much simpler method lol. i highlight my lines in one color (usually yellow), my cues in another color (usually orange), and my stage directions in another color (usually pink)

+Marisa Rose that's wonderful!!! Congrats 💕 Personally, I like to memorize my larger lines in sections (so like, I'll slowly build sentences together). In terms of other lines, the blocking usually helps me memorize it (physicalizing something helps with memory) ❤

My schools theatre is doing Noises Off and Im playing Dotty Otley (Mrs. Clackett) and it's so different cause Im playing a person... who is playing a housekeeper... in a play??? So the script looks weird cause we're memorizing a play within a play. If you havent seen it, definitely give it a look!!! Thespians usually love it cause it's showing what its like to be backstage or running a dress rehearsal

Last year we did double casting for into the woods (we did the whole show as a 8-18 children's theatre, I know, that's crazy but we were good) and I was milky white in two shows and granny and the fake cow in the other two shows

For Into the Woods which I did last war with my high school I was Lucinda and we had a lot of different mood changes so we went from haughty to mad to insane to happy to scared to dead and so anytime I changed a mood I would change my postit color and I use the big postits for any notes my director gives because she's strict and gives tons and then I use the flags to mark entrances I highlight blocking in one color and dialogue in another I found it works pretty well. I think it's crazy to look at the difference between my into the woods script and the script for the straight play I'm performing this weekend

I am currently doublecast in a local community theatre type thing of Lion King Jr. I'm Shenzi! I share the role with one other girl. Some roles are up to triple-cast (like Nala, young Nala, young Simba) because the director tries to include as many people as possible. She's always done it this way to encourage people to participate and buy tickets because I live in south Arkansas so there isn't much of a theatre crowd. Last year they did Wizard of Oz and on your off-night you'd be an Ozian. This year I don't know what you do on your off-night...... yikes.
I'm ALSO the lead in my school play (auditions were thursday) and still actively competing in forensics tournaments (competitive drama type thing) in Duo Interp which is a thing where you get a partner and a script and you prepare the piece and take it and compete with it????? AND I'm taking a "group acting" event to Thespian Festival. So what I'm saying is that I have to learn four scripts right now. :)))))))))))))))))))))
