when I’m preforming around people I really do a mixture of both perspectives I feel like it strengthens a bond if it’s with friends and when it’s with others I feel like they feel more comfortable around you and trusts you a bit more
When I perform, I let the spectator share their perspective with me. As you just said I leave room for the imagination of people and let them explain the trick to themselves!
theirs prospective is more important as a magician is someone who already believes in magic !! he is there to make them believe and when somebody is caught in their own perspective that is the best way to make them believe what is exactly happening in the act ! like you did in this video sir u gave the spectator to peek into the card which is going according to their prospective and at the end it’s enough to make them believe the card in the photo is magically changed according to their selection !!
back to the channel after a long break still astonishes me with just as simple magic to me and having the totally sick experience to others.
and to the question, I would usually use the patter where convince them by teaching a trick with ''sucker tricks'' and casually puting the real effect without saying anything about it my goto effect is levitating pencil and let them exprience what could possibly do that without the finger holding it . so i think sucker trick and boom fooled you are effective coz they leave you free rather they constructing theory on it . thank you for everything u taught
Hearing someone elses perspective is great. It means that your horizon becomes bigger, that you understand more of the world. You listen and hear what others think and what they have to say about certain subjects. It's quite fascinating to hear people's opinion on things. And sure, I may not always agree to their perspectives, but that's what's beautiful about it all, we're all different!
Theirs! The reason I love performing magic is entertaining people. At smaller shows I truly enjoy getting the crowd involved as much as possible. Make them part of the experience.
Old boy magic. Although I am 70 yrs old, I only started magic a few months ago. I like to hear their perspective, it helps me understand their expectations. Great site, and thanks for the fast deliveries.
I love to share my talents with others because doing magic is an amazing experience for both the magician and spectator. I love to share with them how I've learned my magic through lots of practice. I try to inspire others to strive to acheive their goals in life. However, the spectator's reaction is by far my favorite part in a magic trick, as it's amazing to see how different our perspectives are and how we understand things.
I love to share my magic tricks. Because doing magic is a amazing experience. When i do some magic spectator really impressed on me. And he ask how did u done is. I reply with my smile.
I enjoy both aspects. The magic allows me to show people how i see the world, and then through their reactions and explanations of how they think it is done, they reveal their perspective.
I think by inspiring spectators to share their perspective you are opening yourself for the question "and what do you think and this?" ... then you can share your perspective too ... so inspiring others to share is more important to me.

I love performing for 3-4 person and having them involve, I think it's making the magic more strong because it is not just a trick, it's become personnal for them and more memorable
It is a combination for me while I a preforming I share why I got into magic and try to get them to recall what they felt, remember, etc. about the joy they have experienced with magic. Even though I mostly do my tricks to adults I still enjoy when kids are willing to participate in the trick.
I quite enjoy hearing their perspective, it helps relax me a bit more to be able to flow into my next truck more comfortably.

I like to hear other’s perspectives. My perspective doesn’t matter when I’m doing magic. It’s all what they experience. I love seeing them get excited about what they are experience and just hope I can inspire them to be creative with what we their craft may be.
A few weeks ago, you asked which magic cliche do you hate the most, and I mentioned the "magician messes up" trope. A big part of the reason I hated it was because of the way the magician had to "act" like s/he messed up, which I felt like is usually too hard for most to believe (and even the best magicians don't really act convincingly enough to sell the idea), and I think many are privy to the idea that it wasn't actually messed up.
But THIS "sucker" trick keeps that same "messed up" idea without overtly forcing or acting your way through it, and even for a guy like me who loves watching magic, you got me. I thought you were accidentally flashing, making me think you messed up, only to feed into that notion more subtlely to help your payoff.
These are the types of tricks and presentations I wished I saw more of from magicians. Bravo.

Magic is an art form. And like all arts, both the artist's perspective and that of his or her audience's are vital. Neither is more important than the other. Without both, it ceases to be art.
I always try to get them to open up and share their ideas. It's an amazing way to gather ideas on how people think and feel during a trick. It's also great natural misdirection!
Sometimes I do some magic to kids and sometimes I teach them one of the tricks. Their perspective of being fooled is amazing, but, when I teach them one trick, they have another interesting perspective. They start thinking about magic and want to learn more and think of it as a puzzle rather than a trick which I believe makes them smarter. When I do the same to adults, they don't seem impressed when I teach them the first trick, but then look even more puzzled when I perform more tricks and try to figure them out after their minds were boggled. It's always entertaining and interesting to me to hear and watch their perspectives. The idea of teaching a trick or two to audience just enhances their experience without ruining the effect of magic.
I think it’s important to share yours while allowing them to share theirs depending on the situation. Thanks for the great content!
This week's magic tip really speaks to me. As a writer, I often see things in my head in very specific ways and that's how I write about them, but a reader might have their own ideas or opinions to fill in the spaces I've (purposefully or perhaps inadvertently) left, using what I've made to create something new. I like the spectators perspective. It magnetises their connection to the trick and to me.
Jay I wanted to comment on this effect alone - it is perfect for me! Working as a singer in restaurants, I also do a bit of table hopping during breaks etc. In the restaurant, so many people have a phone out while they're sitting, looking at messages, taking pictures of their food (???) so it is a perfect "segue" kind of effect. Thank you so much for this ingenious trick! And the thing that speaks more to me is their perspective of the moment, especially on the look of amazement at the final "reveal".

When doing close up tricks I like when the tricks get people to open up to me about themselves I think it's most important that they enjoy the experience rather than walking away feeling upset over what they just saw
It's always interesting finding out other people's perspectives on things, plus it gives audience members a good time to talk about something which always brings value to their experience.
I like them to share their perspective with me. The more I see from their perspective the better I believe I can hone in my magic on my audience. I hope I win this bullet proof, i do my first street performance on Sept 1 in hawaii downtown.
I try to put myself in my act. This is how people can see my perspective. I try to connect as much as possible with everybody. This is how I make people want to open up to me. They allow me to get a glimpse on theyre view of things. And from theire perspective I usually learn the most. They make fun jokes I can use in the future. They react more openly.For me its important that there is room for everyones perspective. Cause we are all here.
I think that both our perspectives are important so that we get to know each other, so that there is a connection between me and the people for who i’am performing

i think involving your audience the more you can is super important. i agree with you.
So from a personal perspective I wish to entertain people, this is also part of my banter in between performances. Growing up I remember seeing magic as a kid. As adults we forget moments like that in our childhood. It's like a light that's dimmed, as a magician for every single person I want to touch that inner light for each person. If I can do that then as an artist, magician, person. I've done my absolute best. Through that I can get to people and have them open up and talk about themselves at the same time they see how different I can be from everyone they see throughout their day.
I guess that I like to see their perspective because when it's them sharing their thoughts .... It really helps you to establish what I call magic.... Magic of understanding.... That magic adds up to the beauty of the performance

i believe its more important for them to share thier perspective. i love the reactions i get when i perform to others thats what made me love magic.
They should be inspired to share THEIR perspective with me. By doing so, I can get a good idea of what different people think and how they react which can be used in future performances for others.
Other people to share theirs. It helps draw them in and feel a part of it. It's more personal/personable.

I think that getting people to share their perspective can be really useful when used as a tool for misdirection, like asking people about something related to the trick or not... but in the end, the magician is the artist, and he's here to sell his own perspective.
I like getting their perspective on things more. I feel that helps to develope my presentation.

When I'm showing close up magic, I actually start talking about my passion for magic itself, and ask people what they know about it. I give my thoughts on how I like seeing it performed, and ask what magicians they know about and what they did or didn't like about them, and I usually get really good reactions. One thing I especially like doing is when they say they know a card trick (that happens a lot), I let them show me. It's usually the same one or two tricks but it's fun seeing them from different people.
I absolutely love this piece of magic! You asked SUCH a great question here too and for me, I’m more interested in their perspective and I’d rather hear about them. To me, there is a great deal of magic in other people 🎼☕️
An audience comes to be entertained by the performer so I believe it starts out as the magician's perspective and then graduates toward the audience's perspective- performing according to reactions of the audience and the "flow."
I think a balance of mixing both their perspective and my perspective can be very powerful. I also try to feel each crowd out to play to them in a unique way. Awesome stuff as always, Jay.
I like to inspire other people to share their perspectives so I can learn about them and because it teaches me how to be a better magician.
I like to get their perspective. I want them to be immersed in the experience of our interaction. Having people share something of themselves gives them ownership in our shared experience.

I think both are equally important. If you share your perspective it makes your audience trust you. It makes them feel safer. Once they reveal something from themselves the magic becomes personal. They feel more included. It is important however that we appreciate that they shared something with us. We need to be interested in what they say.
I believe their perspective is more important because it gets them invested. Getting peoples thoughts and emotions into a performance makes it more than just a magic "trick". For some people, their perspective can make an effect feel like pure magic.
To allow the audience or spectators to feel and express their reallity to see them having fun and enjoying the moment.
I find a mixture of both is best. I use a multitude of different stories for effects i do and base the story around something they connect to, so i always have a conversation with them and also keep that running in the trick as it makes it more impactful for them. On the flip side i have stories from my life i use if i cant think of a way of linking their stories to a trick. I use magic as a means to get to know people better and so their perspective, i hope that we come out of the trick knowing each other a bit better.

I find that i tend to share myself, but I do have so effects that inspire them to share too.
The most important thing is to combine the two. Use your own perspective when performing your tricks to give that special and personal flare to them, and eventually as you gain confidence you'll be able to speak to people more comfortably and they'll be more willing to share their perspective with you which you can use to make an even better connection with them.
I think inspiring people to share their unique perspectives is more important as it not only helps you get better as a performer( you might come across something valuable which never occurred to you) but most importantly, it allows them to be a part of something amazing! To inspire people is the purpose of a magician! Right?
I prefer to ask people about how they feel and their perspectives on magic. it's a great way to connect
what i find more important is to inspire the audience or group i am performing for because if i haven't given them a sense of joy and happiness or leave them with an impression of amazement then i feel like i have failed
It's more important to share theirs, because you make them feel comfortable and free so you make them happy
For me knowing their perspective is what i am keen on and balance my way out with my uniqueness as we all know that no 2 magicians are same.

Very slick -- I like that it includes a cell phone which has become an extension of ourselves and our personas -- really pulls the viewer into the illusion -- and love that it leaves them with a souvenir picture of the act with them front and center, not me.
I think the most important thing is inspiring the audience to question their perspective and maybe raise their sights to a new or improved perspective. I want them to walk away thinking differently; not like me, but as an improved version of themselves.
I really enjoy performing magic for just one person, so if I’m ever performing to just one spectator I’ll put more of an emphasis on their perspective. When I’m performing with a group though, it’s definitely more important to me to focus on how the group perceives the magic. Makes it a lot easier to adapt to my surroundings and make any changes I need to either my presentation or my handling of the effect.
Great question. And it's hard to not share your perspective as an artist as you suggest. But I agree, I think it's important to inspire and motivate the audience to share their perspective. Learning more about your audience allows you to connect with them in a way you can't when you're just sharing yourself. You might feel connected in that case, but they won't. And at the end of the day, it's all about connecting with your audience.

i think its more important to me about their perspective...sometimes when its about a moral or good teaching then i share my perspective but the most is their thats whats help us a magician to grow inspire his magic

I think its always their perspective over mine, I just want them to enjoy my trick and give me a thumbs up on my way. The way they experience my trick and their reaction are always a treat to me.

I believe it is most important to get the audiences perspective.. include them in the performance. It really helps with the immersion factor.
Inspiring them to share their perspective is more important, because it makes the magic more impactful, and pushes them and yourself to think outside the box

The reason is that their perspective can help me grow and expand mine.
It can help me widen my point of view towards how spectators could react to my magic and that would help me improve and adjust my presentation.
For me, the whole point of magic is to connect with people on a higher level. By pulling their stories, their experience, and ultimately their emotions, not only do they relax and let down their guard, it seems they connect with my magic so much more deeply. On top of all that, I get to lean and connect with them on just as deep a level. To me, the whole experience is so much more rewarding!

I think both perspectives are important. I first like to set the stage to open them to the possibility of real magic, and then afterwards hear their thoughts in response to what they just witnessed.

I definitely think it more important for them to share their perspective because i use basic magic tricks to "break the ice" and meet new people so i like getting to know em more obviously :D
That’s a really good question. I think a mix of both is best. I try to have my own style and to carry my way of looking at magic in every performances and in the same time the audience brings along their way to see what I do and that is what makes magic so unique and beautiful. My performances aren’t so good because of the tricks I do or the skills I have. It is the conversation and the work together from me and the audience.
Hi jay! Very good video, not just for the strong trick but also for the amazing psychology behind it. Now, I'll try to answer the question of the week. What I try to do is actually to emphatize the difference between everyone particular point of view (mine and theirs ) BUT ALSO to point out how all of us share something! I find magic to be an amazing way to overcome discrimination, fear, and to encourage positive interaction between people. That's the reason why I often invite a few spectators to help me out and then I make them help each other.
For me the important thing is rapport. We can share Ideas and perceptions with each other. For me, it's more like steering if they are getting to close or too far away from where things are going just a gentle nudge, a little joke or distraction to get them back to a more neutral position so they can just enjoy the performance.
Most of the time I'm more interested in getting their insight. I've learned a lot about people that way and it helps to remember them as well as I want them to remember me.
I think it's important to find out about them if it's a small group. Larger group you give more of yourself.
I love to talk with my audience and connect with them when performing. I like to act like we are on the journey together. I feel like they also feel that the performances is better when they are more connected and in the act as opposed to just an audience member.
I think both are important but it starts with your own perspective. When you have an unique perspective about something and you show it to the spectators, they'll be having an unique perspective about what you do aswell.

I think it's way more fun to hear others' perspectives vs mine. I already know mine, so listening to how someone else was amazed is a lot more rewarding. For a brief moment, you can live vicariously through them and get that sense of wonderment all over again. Very cool feeling. Great question, Jay.

I think it is and should be all about them. If we want to give them the room for imagination we need to understand their perspective. My goals is to create relationship even if it is a short time. Caring about and wanting to learn their perspective will create that rapport and give your audience the room to imagine with you. Thank you for all you do. Love your videos and teaching style.

The other meanings are important, but your own too, so I think both is important. Everyone want to inspire others, but be inspired can help also.
I find that i usually give more perspective of myself, i am so used to saying the same lines over and over i sometimes forget to ask people about what they are thinking. Yet at the end of the day i think it should be equally important.
