Yo, just an idea for adding stability to the head of the bed/cot. Attach another hinge system with legs at the end, when you lower the head of the cot the supporting legs should swing down by gravity. When you put it up it folds up by gravity again. You might just loose a couple inches of space but I think it's a better solution than detachable legs
I built a couch with padding the same way. You'll want to do two layers. Lower layer with very dense foam then a layer of that plush foam. The problem I had was. After sitting or laying on the plush stuff. I would sink to the bottom then all's I could feel is the wood frame. I found if you had a layer that supposed sitting weight. Taken up by the same area as your body sitting. Then a plush layer to make it comfortable. Only trying to help. Oh use a bread cutting knife for cutting foam. I tried lots of ways. It always got messed up. Bread knife slices there very well. Effortless and in a straight line. I found cutting at an extreme angle. Almost parallel to the foam. Really helps with cutting strait lines. Make sure you get the rite foam glue if your doubling up. Real easy to do. Doesn't cost much. It can really help making one piece. But the wrong kind( like the kind I used)it will just separate after using it once or twice. Oh one more tip. Cut a grid pattern into the top. Like two inch size squares. Just don't go all the way threw. It makes it way more comfortable and helps to stop sliding.

Yo birdy…For that armrest part,you should put another hinges on the side of that with a piece of wood support so when you bring it up as an armrest it will fold and when you bring it down,it will act as a support on the bottom.
