This was a very nice presentation. I just watched a "Dark Docs" episode about the secret wiretap mission using the "Quiet One" 500p version. Your bird looks very nice as it should not getting the flight hours as of late. Additionally, I'm really saddened to hear your budget has been cut. I hope the best for your LE departments that could better use the equipment. Semper Fi.
Is this THE quiet one? I thought it had all special equipment removed, and disappeared in the 70’s? I’m not a questioning what’s been said, rather wondering if what limited stuff I know about the one used for the mission is incorrect. From what I understand it had twin tanks added, lead lining added to the interior in places to cancel sounds and vibrations, special tips added to the blades, a lot of modification added around the rotor head, swash plates etc, most of which was stripped. Regardless, it’s sooooo cool that it’s still being used, and for such a fantastic purpose. True what the gentleman said, it belongs in a museum, as most probably don’t realise just how significant ANY of the ‘Silent one’s were/are....and this is coming from a 42yr old in South Wales, UK. Think of it -- the CIA goes to all the trouble to research and develop a whisper quiet helicopter. Do you really think they are going to get rid of it? Now, its been a 40+ years. I am sure there are better choppers that have replaced it, but I bet you it still is in the hands of the CIA somewhere.
