The South trashed Hip-Hop.
You got the right to be wrong.
Yea a lot of it did

Real shit
@@jamonteLerTell yourself whatever lie you want to.
How u leave out NAS...he was out then
Nas was straight hip hop, he wasn't with the mainstream shit yet. Goodie Mobb and Outkast and everyone he's tslking about were the most mainstream of rap music at the time. Theres a lot of people he's leaving out technically, but their aren't that relevant to the story tbh. They were relevant to hip hop but not directly to his story.
@@NW7386 exactly. Nas’ debut album dropped the same year OutKast’s debut had dropped. Nas might’ve been that dude in NY but overall he hadn’t reached his status yet in the mainstream.
@apexone5502 WHOA haha. That's not what I meant. Nas was that guy across the board if we talking critical acclaim and top tier lyricism. He didn't mentioned BONE in this interview either and they were there as well.
All I was saying is that Nas wasn't relevant to Gipp's story, and he wasnt chasing the mainstream yet. He was making a name for himself within the culture first, among the lyricists and the top tier MC's. Outkast wasn't doing that.
Its just like if you talk to Nas about 93-94-95 he's probably not gonna mention Outkast or Goodie Mobb either. They weren't that relevant to his story either. But that doesn't take away from their greatness or how relevant they were overall.
They hit the mainstream quicker because they had playas ball and they were on what was mainly an R&B label, Laface. They didnt need to prove anything because there was no one else in Atlanta to really compete. Nas had much greater comp in NY.
Critically, Southernplayalistic wasn't an overall greater album than illmatic. They were both dope af. Nas wasn't trying to be super mainstream and he didn't have an LA Reid behind him to try and make him be. That's the difference.
I just wanted to make that clear. Nas been that guy. Outkast and Organized Noise were a little more commercial friendly, but that doesn't make them better they were playing a different game and did it well. Neither one of them were on Nas' level lyrically at the time. They had to grow as well. I hope that clears up what I was trying to say.
@@NW7386 Nas was mainly that dude up north during the Illmatic years. There’s a reason why it took many years for that album to go platinum and it wasn’t because of the bootlegging up that way. I’m not saying Nas was trash or anything but he got most of his burn up north at that time. I was just agreeing that he wasn’t at his mainstream status yet.
I WANNA MEET GOODIE MOB‼️
Flavor Flav lil bro keep bussin his co-host out😂😂😂 great interview fr💯

Only someone from the South could give this perspective without bias!
As someone who has been here from the beginning…a hip hop citizen from Arkansas, this has to be the very best historical breakdown of our culture that I’ve ever heard! Everythang Gipp spit was pure facts!! I remember it all and he didn’t miss nothin!! Shout out to Gipp.. a true hip hop connoisseur! He has emerged as OUR Oracle!! Protect this man!! Peace!!
He’s literally bias lmao

I’m a Georgian who’s actually more of a Boom Bap fan. I’m a fan of dope lyricism. I gotta say sorry but the south has been running the game for a long time now.
