One Log, Many Possibilities: a wood carving journey

This is the beginning of a series. I'll be recording the whole process of me working this cherry log into hand carved wooden items. This is where it all begins, splitting the log and processing it into smaller and more manageable chunks to carve with. There will be many spoons and spatulas, and maybe a few cups and bowls. I will be only using hand tools, and I intend to use every last scrap to make smaller carvings. Feel free to leave a suggestion of something you'd like to see me carve!

LOL 7.5 minutes into it you finally get your fro in there! I was like, “Dude, where is that fro…ooh there it is!”
Also, if you make yourself a couple of fatter wedges from scrap wood or branches you’re not using, when you lay the log down in its side they can REALLY help you drive separation. A couple of fatter wedges could definitely spare you a bit of effort. Unsolicited advice, take it or leave it :-). Thumbs on the vid!

Yeah this was by no means a master class on splitting a log by hand lol. This may have been the hardest log I’ve ever tired to split , very twisted. I have a few wooden wedges but I could definitely make more.

I have a question for you sir,I'm just a novelist spoon carver,I have been carving black walnut spoons and some people have said not to eat or cook with black walnut spoons because could be toxic I say crap.what do you say sir.thanks
