Appreciate the review. I was considering a couple of these.
I think they are priced well for what they offer
@@notenoughtech No warning about how difficult it was to remove "anti-flaming shell" in order to reach the screws.. Likely the most difficult part of the install. 🤣 They make it look easy.
ua-cam.com/video/AkTE-baBxZI/v-deo.html
does this have the same issue of not working in metal back boxes
How does this coordinator compare with the original ZBMINI chip?
This looks like just what I need, sort of. Thanks for the really clear review. I’ve successfully installed my first two way smart switch (Candeo Zigbee dimmer) but it was three times the price of this and I had to replace the other 2-way switch with a retractive one. I think I’ll get a few of these for any one-gang switches I have. Be nice if they functioned as a router but I understand why they can’t. My question is - can I wire it behind 1 ‘gang’ of a 2-gang switch somehow ? I have lots of two / three way 2/3 gang switches and wondered if I could smarten them by adding one of these at a different switch on each location ?
With 2/3 gangs obviously, you'd need either more space or another device. Another approach is to mount it in the ceiling where you are likely to have an access to the L & N. You may also have more space there - so worth visiting this option
I can’t get mine to pair up, being trying for days. Can anyone help me?
Morning mate, love it. I have my IOT on another network. Never used zigbee yet.
Low power is a strong advantage. You can have interesting battery operated devices running for a long tkme
@@notenoughtech I day I may need it.
Is it possible to connect it to push button?
Thank you Mat. 👍🏻
Thanks for watching Ron
Hi can this be set up to work with smart bulbs where the relay is always closed (providing power to smart bulbs) and the switch only acts as a software on/off switch? Thanks
Yes you can. You can fuse the wires and keep Sonoff connected in parallel and only use the switch.
I'm using this with Zigbee2mqtt but I'm getting quite a delay. I'm unsure if it's a converter issue or something else. My LQI for this device is slightly above average for my mesh so doubt it's a network issue.
Delays are usually due a congested network or poor signal propagation in mesh. Has it been a while since you looked at the firmware for coordinator? Perhaps that's a good start
Do you know what is the stability of these new ones? Most of the bad reviews for the SONOFF ZBMINI neutral version on Amazon are related to random disconnections from the network.
Too early to tell I think but I didn't notice anything myself. Disconnections could have many reasons
Well i just have a gateway by silvercrest and i can't connect it :/
Hi. Can you say, can I burn ZBMINI-L if connect L wire to “Lout” and Lamps wire to “Lin”? (S1 & S2 are not connected) Or wire combination is not important?
I don't think you can burn it but it wouldn't power up.
I love this video. Very well done and something to point out that this switch is rated for 6A not 10A.
I have 1 question. Is it possible to use this device in a 3-way switch ???
I have in my garage 3 switches in 3-Way and I do not have a Neutral. Can you advise ???
You can use this if your 3 way isn't a pass through system (feeding power from one side to the light on the other end of that 3 - way
hi! quick questions! 1.) Can we use an LED panel powered by a Driver (Line + Neutral)? 2.) by not having Neutral, can this device be considered a Zigbee signal repeater? Thanks! Big shout from a brazilian fan!
This won't be working as a repeater as it has not enough power in the off mode to do so. In theory you could wire it with L and N network but you have a proper version of this for these circuits
hi the status feedback is integrated into this module if it is coupled with a box (Homey)
Thanks for sharing this! Good to know
Thank you for your review~ It does not work with zigbee2mqtt, but how about Zigbee Home Automation ZHA on Home Assistant?
It works with z2m you have the examples of that in video/article
Hi, nice video but one thing i didn't get, the ZBMINI- L is also zigbee router that can increase my zigbee cover range at home ?
in this video you said its a router but on the ZBMINI - L2 you said that its not working as a zigbee router because it doesn't have neutral wire
Unfortunately, I was wrong about it at the time. I looked up the device specification rather than how it behaved when connected. I'm sorry
Hello mate .. quick question I am planning to use sonoff 3 smart switch for home automation .. I have google nest at home plan to connect via nest .. do I need to buy a hub Philip hue hub as well ?
Not for eWeLonk account binding. You only need the Sonoff hub for zigbee series devices. Anything that has WiFi binds directly to eWeLink cloud
Can anyone tell me if and how can I use zbmini-l for making a multiway switching smart? (In my Case 1 light with 3 switches)
As in 3 way switching or trying to combine 3 different sources?
Should work for both but locaiton of the relay need to be in 1 or 3 - not in the middle switch (configuration dependant)
Really interesting, looks like it won't fit in the more common shallow switch boxes. Certainly those at our home 😭. Thank you.
Mi have one of these shallow boxes as well in one room -nothing fits there so I opted out for a ceiling mount
i am experiencing an issue with my zbmini-l and was was wondering if you had any insight. after hooking mine up, the power is always on. the toggle switch evidently powers the zbmini on/off (as indicated by the units red led turning on and off with the flip of the switch), and i was able to pair it to my hue hub - but regardless of whether i flip the toggle, or command it via hue, the light/light switch i have hooked it up to is always on. the only way to shut off the power is to shut off at the breaker.
Have you tried a different load? Try another bulb and see how it behaves.
@@notenoughtech it's a switch that controls four 10w led bulbs, in addition to a ceiling fan. I can't imagine that the load would be to low, or too high for that matter.
It's more about how the current is passing through the circuit while switch is connected. You are using it in no neutral configuration right?
Hi Andrew, idk if you already solved it
But I've read that using the Hue Bug you can have that issue, maybe you can try with a different hub
Pretty impressive with 3w minimal load. I think shelly's minimum is 20w, how has Sonoff achieved that! How many W have your bulb in the video?
The bulb is 10W, LED bulb from tesco as cheap as it gets. It draws 9.8W in use and my killowat hasn't shown any usage in off position - but this could be down to the resolution or just the way these work
Is there a fallback mode when there is no coordinator because it is down for some reason? Will I be able to turn on the lights?
You will be able to use the wall switch. There is no fallback to 2nd network. Switch will be still in mesh. Without coordinator you simply can't coordinate mesh it still exists between devices
@@notenoughtech that is interesting. After watching do many home automation video's I had no clue. But I can't imagine the logic programmed in node red is executed directly between devices.
Devices can have memory to carry the timers or schedules (not all) but they won't respond to any commands without coordinator to issue it
Hi, Thanks for the review. Did you measure the power consumption of the device?
Unfortunately not
@@notenoughtech I go this answer from SONOFF : "If the relay is off, 3.9-5mW when 115V, 5.1-6.2mW when 230V. The power consumption is for the connected load when the relay is on." But I am a bit sceptical about those values since they look too good to be true.
I wouldn't be sceptical
notenoughtech.com/featured/smart-lights-wont-save-you-money/
ZigBee came up on top of my things measured
if your house has neutral wires, can you still use this switch? Do you just tie the neutral wires together?
yes that's correct
Does this work without internet. Can it also have connectivity to Alexa,Google or apple home
It uses ZigBee so the internet connection isn't required it can also be linked directly to ZigBee enabled echo speakers although I haven't tested that myself.
Thank you! Would be interesting to see how many energy this device consumes. This is often an issue with no-neutral devices. Some of them consume up to 15W permanently.
Are they? If you look at this you will see that ZB devices were one of the least consuming devices. Its hard to measure the consumption as well due to how they are linked in the system.
You have to separate the current consumption through the light from switch. Amid imagine different bulbs would end up drawing different amount of current
@@notenoughtech Couldn't you put an amp meter in series? Times voltage that would give the maximum power (including reactive power). It couldn't be much otherwise a LED bulb would emit light.
notenoughtech.com/featured/smart-lights-wont-save-you-money/
Any updates on the support to zigbee2mqtt? are yhet supported? Thanks, great video
I believe this is added in the latest version already, but I also provided a temp converter file entry in my article so you can add it yourself.
Great video, just bought a few of these. I can't get access to the opt folder, can you explain how I can mount this?
I guess you are using HA? installation (especially docker one) will have a slightly different way to access these files. I'm not using HA myself so it's hard to give you specifics but if you google location of the file in HA then I'm sure someone posted the direct path
@@notenoughtech Yes HA, but no worries I did get it working, they have released the ZBMINI-L but only on the dev version. But the other question I was expecting the switches to mesh together but doesn't seem to be happening, to do this is there a different config to get them to work that way? They both want to connect back to the Sonoff dongle rather than mesh together when being in the same room.
Interesting design with the DIN Rail mounting. I wonder if they could have made it smaller if the did not do DIN Rail mount though. I should imagine DIN Rail does not need to be no neutral.
It's great to see more no neutral devices coming out, though I think this one may be a little large to fit behind a lot of my switches.
Its about right for EU design. Considering electronics inside I don't think they coul made it smaller
@@notenoughtech Good to know it wasn't just to accommodate the DIN mounting.
I am still happy to see these come out.
No neutral devices are one of the things lacking in the smart home arena.
Wish the wiring standards move with times. You could now have a whole light system controlled with a single device. Same goes for metering and socket control.
@@notenoughtech So true. Some industries are slow to change unfortunately
I've read a lot of bad reviews on this switch. After using this for a while, what are your thoughts today?
There are probably better designed switches but also you will pay more money for it. I had no issues. But I'm not going anything extreme with it. I know for a fact that a lot of people ignore safety ratings especially when it comes to inductive loads and it's the main reason for these to fail
Is it possible to connect to a sonoff switch from your own proprietary app? is there an API for this?
Some Sonoffs come with Sonoff DIY however there is only a handful. That enables LAN controls via REST. Otherthan that, you have eWeLink API so you can work with their cloud or just flashing custom firmware like tasmota. I covered all of them on my channel
For anyone interested, I’m using this with a Sonoff hub and works great most of the time, but around once a week it will go offline / become unresponsive. The only solution I’ve found so far is to reset and repair the relay. There was another update to the hub firmware this week to ver 1.6.0, but, it has just gone offline again, so looks like problem not solved.
Great vid though 👍
Thanks for sharing your feedback
Looks to be too large to fit in a light switch back box, is this the case?
Dimensions are in the article. It will depend on your actual hole I'm afraid. "Standard" is 60x60x47 but ..not all of them made equal
I am in AUS and I am a noob in home automation. Like the UK, we do not always have the Neutral wire in the wall.
I purchased the Shelly 1L but found out that it supports at least 20W of consumption and if the connected light is less than that then a bypass is required to avoid flickering!
Would this product work with light which consume
The bulb I tried is 9.8W on my meter. I think that's the lowest I have in my selection right now.
Do you have a link to the multicoloured display on your shelves?
This is the one: www.banggood.com/custlink/vvGhADaony
@@notenoughtech thanks!
Nice video, I have been waiting for this for a long time, do anyone know where can I find something like this but two gang?
If you can't find it you can resolve this with adding double socket and covering it with the blank. Not the nicest solution but 🤷
@@notenoughtech yes I thought so, but since I just got live cable, that can't be possible. Thanks either way for the answer! 😁
Is there any reason why it does not linkup or syncs with zigbee2mqtt?
Have you tried another firmware for the coordinator?
@@notenoughtech Hi Thank you for answering!. I have a ZBDongle 3.0 USB with no problem to manage 16 devices from multiple suppliers. So i am a bit hesitated to change a good function system.
I had issues with ZigBee dongle from Sonoff until my last firmware. I have 2 videos covering this just check Sonoff dongle on my channel. Compare your firmware revision and decide if it's worth going forward with the update.
How does it gets power if is not connected to neutral?
Think of your switch as of one connected at the end of 2 wires. We think of the circuit as if load was the bulb. But if the switch is the load then it can draw little current without turning on your light and stay connected
@@notenoughtech when you mention 2 wires I can only imagine live and neutral (in AC case), since if the 2 wires are live, there is no voltage difference between them, therefore 2 live wires can't turn on any load, even the bulb, that's why the bulb is connected to neutral... Or maybe you mean is getting power from live and the bulb, and therefore is passing a little current through the bulb which is not enough to turn it on?
Draw it out but instead of having bulb at the end, put the wall switch on the end - you will see what I mean. In no neutral configuration we refer to both wires as live depending on what we consider to be the load. If you assume your switch is the load, it will be easier to understand how it gets the current to work
Are you sure it act as a router? Most non-neutral switches does not
I updated the article about this I may have jumped the gun a little on that. Which is a shame.
What if you have lots of lights and need 12amps?
You need an industrial switch for your industrial needs
@@notenoughtech can you point me in the right direction?
Maybe something like so off SPM? It has 20A per channel if I recall correctly
Not able to connect it with smart life...
Does this thing work with ZHA?
I don't see why it wouldn't
Great video but I have a quick question. I’m no electrician by any means so just like to ask if I can use this in a bathroom ceiling mounted pull switch with cord? I’ve 8 GU10’s on the one switch and instead of trying smart bulbs I like the idea of simply turning them all on / off using the existing switch and the App.
Is this just an on/off device or is there one which also allows for dimmer operation? I’m in the UK so need the NO neutral wire option.
Thanks in advance ad keep up the great channel as you can definitely see there a huge passion in what you do which shows in each and every video you put out.
It would work as pull wire works the same way as switch. Just check the total watts used by the all bulbs as that's gonna be your current through the relay.
@@notenoughtech Thank you for that. I assumed it would be ok but just wanted to check with someone who knew the product. Keep up the good work though as your channel just gets better with each production
Thanks I appreciate it and thanks for watching ;)
Cool but, sadly, the Hue integration is broken
Will it work with Philips hue hub?
I don't have the hub to verify I'm afraid
Yes, I have tested this functionality. I already have it on my desk.
This module can connect to the Philips HUE Bridge as a regular "On/Off light".
On my blog Domotica.cz there is a small review and also an experience with the Philisp HUE Bridge
Yes, my video ua-cam.com/video/c5WmwWXIak0/v-deo.html
Yes, I have one I initially connected via a hue hub and worked ok while the relay was responsive.
A comparison to Shelly 1L would be interesting despite the 1L being wifi and not ZigBee. After all they do the same job.
Unfair on the protocol side if I'm honest as they require slightly different infrastructure approach. But i have more info about shelly coming up very soon
@@notenoughtech It is interesting. Are Shelly going to announce Zigbee devices? It will be great. Sonnof ZBMINI...is it so difficult to add options (switch type, power cutoff memory)....
I don't think they will but I'm getting their low power WiFi stuff soon which is interesting
I'm still working for the light switch to activate something 😂
Patience is the virtue
How do they work!???
Magic ;).
All circuits leak current and that's enough to power a device which can take advantage of this
@@notenoughtech does it use less power than the original ZBMINI?
I don't have equipment sensitive enough to measure. The difference wouldn't be massive.
Interesting, so 10 of them for a house would be like £140.
My brother would just use the earth wire as a negative. :D
Your brother likes to live his life dangerously. Tell him off and send him this link :)
Sadly does not work as a router, only end device
Is router?
Sadly it's not ;(
Just waiting to see the price on Ali
Probably very similar they are really more different than $1 -2 at best
@@notenoughtech I live in Italy but the house is cabled like an UK one. Maybe the electrician was English 😂, I only have 3 options. 1) This module, 2) bring a neutral wire myself to every switch box. 3) using the parallel diode trick in the switch box, and hide normal mini with an optocoupler at the ceiling lamps.
Well - Perhaps it was an UK expat doing the work! :) So far it works pretty well
@@photocromax For 3) If it is the UK style with power and switch wire to each ceiling rose why do you need extra stuff if you wire the Sonoff in at the ceiling?
Ceilings are often tighter to work in. Its possible to use L and N switches but I often find that I don't have the space and would need a new rose fitting to increase it. Plus I'm all for options and choice
