Omar just want u to know I'm so grateful for you and thank you so much for bringing folks like me together. Sometimes I feel very alone in this world but I don't feel that way when I watch your streams/videos
My brother, I may not be able to read and reply to all the messages and comments, but thank you for making all of this worth it.
I hear you mflohr. I'm not the most confident person, don't have many friends and keep to myself but the online comic community is great. I can be myself and have a laugh with people that have become friends I've made over the years. Just because we haven't met in real life or are at different ages doesnt stop us uniting our love for comics.
Hope u have a good weekend mate.🙂
Much love back to you, Stephen.
Love this story a nice love letter to both the golden & silver age of DC Comics
Lovely edition, for those who missed the absolute edition IMO this is a must have in your collection.
I love the optimism and hope for a better tomorrow that runs throughout this story, something sorely lacking from comics then and up to today. I really miss Darwyn Cooke.
My absolute fave GN of all time. The feels I got from reading this, no other publishing company who makes funny books has equalled this. Great vid, brother!
Omar thx for taking the time to communicate your passions and show off the great work on Darwyn Cooke - a shame he’s gone but so thankful for the work he left behind.
Will be putting my order in asap. I'm an admirer of his kind of retro style but what really sold me was the coloring. It's absolutely masterful!
20th anniversary.
5 years since the last printing of the Absolute.
👀
Thank you for doing this review Omar. I have the floppies and have thought about upgrading because the art and story deserve it.
John Cloud's cave message is also in a certain Peter J Tomasi & Patrick Gleason Omnibus
Waited so long for this deluxe edition! I even broke down & bought the black label trade. There were times I was gonna overpay. Been collecting collected editions since 2016, and being patient pays.
I'm in the middle of so many books right now but watching this really makes me want to reread this phenomenal series.
New Frontier made me an eternal fan of Darwin Cook. I was lucky enough to find a used copy of Batman Echo et a LCBS and it was signed by the master himself.
I've been wanting to check this out but was waiting for your review to know if it was good or not. I'll definitely get it now.
Must own for me, one of DC's best stories and a brilliant animated movie too! I stumbled across the book in 2 volumes as a trade paperbacks in Borders in Louisville. Love your channel!
I picked this up awhile back on your recommendation - I love it one of my fav absolutes
Nice to know that my Absolute Edition I bought recently has more content! New Frontier is also my favorite Tim Sale drawn book xD
Love this book. I am glad they keep almost all the content for all the versions. Love Melanie, but nooooo.
Huh. Interesting bit about the new paper. I got the 2015 edition of this Deluxe and the colors don’t look anywhere near as vibrant as they look on your copy.
Finished this book a week and a half ago. Amazing read. Can't speak highly enough of it. If you haven't read it do yourself a favour.
this new paper is sooo much better suited, much more atmospheric.
Imagine if DC spent an entire year doing stories in this world.
This one is high on my buy list. I missed the latest Absolute printing and will surely wait for the next printing. Thanks for this review Omar!
Thanks Omar! I’ve picked up the deluxe edition but I think I’d rather the absolute for the paper stock and the overall presentation. Maybe one day…
There is nothing like New Frontier. Thats all i have to say.
Darwyn drew the definitive Wonder Woman in my opinion.
Omar great vid as always, whats the page quality of the new printing compared to the old one, is it glossy like the old one , please correct me if i am wrong
Got the first edition deluxe hc and the 15th anniversary Absolute. IMO one of the best story from DC. We miss you Mr. Cooke
For this one do you prefer the deluxe edition or the absolute? Thx!
I'm wondering this as well - I actually have the Absolute, but I think those are little too much for me - thinking of getting rid of it and getting this.
Since I'm not that big of a DC reader compared to Marvel, I'm probably one of the few who didn't really dig the book. Or rather, to be more accurate, I was overwhelmed by the unfamiliarity of it all. Like, in the first issue alone, I had no idea who the Losers and Rick Flag were, so right off the bat, I wasn't hooked in.
The animated movie, on the other hand, I got into more easily by comparison since the more obscure (to me, at least) characters were relegated to the background while the more popular ones were center stage.
It just seemed to me to be a tad unfriendly to non-DC readers. But I dunno. Maybe I'll give it another shot now that I've seen the movie version.
Does it feature the Inhumans??😂😂😂😂
Really need an Absolute reprint.
Oh man I thought u were not going to say spoilers xdddddd
did the nice house deluxe have this new paper?
Is this a good book for a beginner? I’ve only purchased “Batman year one” and “Batman Hush” so far.
Interesting that you compared Darwin Cooke's art to Tim Sale's. I felt a similarity to Steve Rude. Just FYI, the Hal Jordan interaction with the Korean soldier may have been a homage to the final scene of the war film "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" (1954) starring William Holden and Mickey Rooney. And yeah, the John Henry sequence was a very hard read (having lived in Birmingham, Al during the late '50's to early '60's). Truly not one of America's finest moments. Think I'll wait for a reprint of the absolute edition.
I blame you for filling an 8 foot book shelf with only omnibuses.
Was gonna keep my trap shut but I watched all the way to the end so you've twisted my arm to comment! I love this book, collected it as it was coming out, and have had the Absolute edition since it came out. I love the way it shows how the 40s-60s played out on a "merged"/post-Crisis Earth (even though it's non canon). BUT. It is REALLY hard for me to get over the way Cooke portrays the North Vietnamese, attributing a hideous crime to them (one actually conducted by the US-supported Southern regime) and relishes in Wonder Woman's war crimes. Obviously I love plenty of comics that include politics I disagree with or historical inaccuracies, but this piece of the story just nags at and bothers me!
Pass for me can’t stand darwyn cooke’s art I find it mediocre and boring.
