And finally: Petscop, from the very beginning, has *not* been about 'us solving the mystery'. It's been about *Paul* solving the mystery, we're just along for the ride. You were 100% right when you said it's not an ARG. It's *not* an ARG, it's a narrative video series.
I think that this IS a story with ARG game elements, (the one thing i don't understand is, if it's just a story told THROUGH gameplay is why is it being fed to us so slowly,) and if this isn't an ARG why are there so many clues? (So that the main character can find them, true but if the story is already complete why such a slow reveal?) I think if you're a ARG player you would be looking for games to play. I do think this "ARG" has enough clues and story to get ARG players interested, and these players would think this is an ARG. (ARG game elements means clues and leads.) Edit: players
@@10coatofarms68 ARG elements is fan interactions, not clues. There are many great mystery shows that promote you to look for clues and try figure it out as you go along, but these are not ARGs. Petscop is not an ARG, and it was wrong for Night Mind to treat it as such.
"It's been about Paul solving the mystery" Paul isn't even in the series at the moment "it's a narrative video series" the narrative is going nowhere quickly
I never thought I would say "Nick got it completely wrong." And now I have to. I'm not trying to be insulting or anything, but there are a lot more clues and evidence presented than you included in this video. Some of them are absolutely confirmations. I'm sorry but I really think you let negative feelings you have for this series or creator effect your judgement... and that really isn't like you at all.
"You're the only visitor to 'Even Care.'" Petscop seems to be a story about child neglect. Paul helped Care ("Carrie") early on in the series. Paul is the only visitor to even care.
petscop is a story game about Care, who, iirc, was kidnapped, rehomed into a highly religious family, Rebirthed (the process of swaddling a person in blankets, sitting on them, suffocating them to simulate the feeling of birth), and dying. a lot of things in the game hints at real life events, and other people (not night mind bc hes a twat ig) have included articles of Care and what happened to her. its been a hot year since ive seen the videos, but theyre there. somewhere. by someone who actually looked into the details and did research.
...I love night mind's content but it seems he needs to stick to completed work. Hes hesitant to theorize about things when he "doesnt have all the information". At least he seems to have become now. If we wanted to just see the information the story gave us....we'd just watch the series... Nick, you asked questions we already have answers to....or at least...sorta answers.
we have answers now "belle, you there?" "do you remember being born?" "and now:" overall, even if a few questions were left unanswered, it was a great sendoff. nightmare masterclass did a great job covering the finale.
I think you might have rose tinted glasses when it comes to Marble Hornets, because I remember there being REALLY long stretches of time where instead of feeling like we were getting more information, we were actually being told "here's even more gaps, time to play catch up with the timeline"
Remember Eckva? The supposed true successor to Marble Hornets that NM did a video on a while back? I can't imagine he'd like that one at all because it's uploaded similarly over the last two years, there's a total of 17 videos on that channel and those are far more fragmented and narratively disconnected than the info that's trickled out through petscop.
Agreed. The third season was nearly unwatchable because of how formulaic it got. Remember the video game they helped make that was supposed to redefine horror games, then ended up being exactly the same as all the free fan games that already existed? MH's first season was lightning and they never did manage to bottle it.
I agree. That's also why I stopped watching MH by season 3. I really think the appeal of Petscop is that it ISN'T an ARG. I think Nick is kind of missing the point of Petscop doing this series kind of with a disregard for the audience. We're figuring it out because we want to, making theories, piecing things together, making fan art, making videos... and not because Petscop is asking us to. And that's kind of cool. It's a big box of Legos and we're making things with the pieces they've given us, instructions or no.
@@SaturdayXIII I have no idea what you or the OP are talking about, there were very few slow parts in Marble Hornets. Especially compared to something like Tribe Twelve where we got an entire like 20-30 minutes of the main character refusing to open a journal and it taunting him with it's grating voice.
@@expendableindigo9639 Marble Hornets definitely isn't the worst of perpetrators when it comes to cliffhanger grinding, but that doesn't mean they did it well either.
Oof this video. I normally love night mind videos but man this didn’t analyze much of the amazing wonder that is petscop. It was mostly a rant with a lot of repetition.
So the usual nightmind video lately. I can't think of a good video he has done within a year. Pretty sure he lost whatever "magic" drew me to his channel.
I feel like you watched a different Petscop than me. With Petscop I actually feel like I'm understanding it a lot better than I ever did with Marble Hornets... Yeah, the answers lead to more questions, but I still feel like I am getting good answers and besides the wait between videos it doesn't feel like it's dragging on too long to me.
@@SensoTai It's an art project not an ARG, dead air is a part of the narrative. Night Mind likes Alan Resnick a lot and his Alan Tutorial series took years, too.
Too many cuts would be confusing in this medium, since it's a video game it would make it seem like the player was just being directly warped from place to place.
Yeah, that's another thing I wanted to call out (see my four recent replies to the video as to why it's 'another'), but I don't want to have to say "I lied again, *this* is finally the 'finally'", plus you called it out already so there we go.
@@MCOmegaX123 Honestly I think a lot of his points are valid. Theres a few fun theories that dont have a ton to build off of yet really, and the censorship of the random coffin items was wholly unnecessary and obnoxious, regardless of who did it in-universe. It hid nothing and was just a pointless mystery box with no satisfying reveal. Not his best video, but not as bad as people are taking it tbh.
@@conflictt3224 Yeah, good defense. That totally justifies him making a 40 minute video with nearly no real work put in just to get the view time. Defend him all you want, but his work has been complete trash for over a year now.
as soon as i heard that my heart just sunk man, he's used external resources before in previous topics why didn't he at least glance at the petscop comprehensive progress document. i know it's not like plastered everywhere but it's not like hard to find
Yup, it's one of the most complex things the community has ever decoded and such a landmark for fans and here Nick just went "Yup I can't crack it so no one must have been able to crack it either"
Paul didn't censor the items, the people who took control of the channel did. Also it's pretty much accepted that Daniel is Rainer. I know you put this out pretty soon after but you missed a lot...
Well shit, I thought I just came up with that after noticing the similarities in name (shift a couple letters around and replace the first and last with R's)... Guess I need to go back to /r/petscop again.
@@AnxiousMo-Fo We know rainer (which was in quotes in the description of the channel as if it was a nickname) created the game for marvin and there is text on screen in petscop 19 in the mike2 recording when mike finds the egg he complains how the egg was in Daniel's game.
Just so we're clear, that was _not_ intended as a complaint, right? (Not trying to be a d*ck, it's just hard to tell through text in the UA-cam Comment Section™, you know?)
If Petscop was running like a Let's Play we'd be getting a new episode every day. And I'm fairly certain most Let's Plays don't have the commentator completely disappear for half the series.
@@wdubs1 whatever Petscop is is not an ARG though. it tells its story at the pace it wants and only reveals what it wants, there is not much to be solved in petscop, you just have to wait and see how it turns out, there has been 0 viewerbase interaction (a basic requirement for an arg) since the series started and it will upmost likely stay that way.
I appreciate the video and understand your feelings towards the pace of the story, but I feel like you are ignoring a huge chunk of evidence by not addressing the rebirthing stuff which seem to be the main theme of the series, which was there from the start. Newmaker, rebirth, "quitter", Care supposedly being Lina reborn (and Marvin being excited about that, with Rainer saying to him "I have a guess at which child you'll pick next"), Paul saying that "he bears a strong resemblance" to Care, someone trying to use a machine to make Belle become Tiara (and Pink Tool mentioning a machine "beyond the school basement stairway", where Care was), etc.
I agree. I wish he had just gone into the story more. Like I thought him critiquing the pacing was gonna be a short break from the rest of the story analysis. Hopefully he does another video about this, or else this will be pretty underwhelming.
Paul bears a strong resemblance to care, as in, he does not have any eyebrows? Does this mean the rebirth theme goes on? Lina -> Care -> Paul? Maybe Mike as well. Paul is Marvin's next victim.
@@barthcellos that is what it feels like or at least that's who got him in the later half of the series when he loses control of his channel honestly he could be forced to hide other parts kinda like an unreliable narrator. Using Paul to hide Marvin's true plans
Oh yeah, NightMind seems to hate Game Theory so much that he's cherry picking what to cover because MattPatt did the Newmaker theory. Great. Nightmind, are you a person I can trust to give me all the facts because it looks like you aren't since you won't cover something because you don't like the person that also covered this topic. I get that you don't believe the theory but you better address it otherwise it seems like you are skipping it entirely when the facts are right in your face.
Nick a puzzle isnt fun if it comes out of the box finished is it? just because the moon comes out at night after you said the moon will be out doesn't mean it came out for you does it? This is a story not making sense to you then you might want to change perspective
I am by no means an expert with online horror/ARGs/whatever, but I have been watching this channel for a long time. In my opinion, this is one of the best ARG-type stories I've seen for one point alone; The immersion. When you watch the Petscop videos, you shouldn't look at them like an ARG. This whole story deserves to be watched as if it were an actual game that was given to Paul and you're experiencing and easter egg hunting through the game with him. When I first came across Petscop, I didn't know it was going to be an ARG, and it really got me as a generic story of just another weird, lost game that nobody has played before or was unfinished. It's refreshing and new for the format and feels more realistic than any other online horror story I've seen, including the ones covered on this channel. TL;DR: Looking at the video like an ARG just hurts the experience the creators wanted the viewers to have. Look at it like a let's play of an obscure game.
but its not an ARG, its really not. its not an alternate reality where children were kidnapped, rehomed, and rebirthed and killed, it all happened. its depressing everyone thinks a real ass story that someone has put into game format is calling it args and everything, when Paul is most likely the one who coded and did all the art for the game. its not a lets play, he knows what hes doing so he can get from point a to b without fluff, to tell a story of what happened to children. for why, idk.
I feel like you're missing out a lot of juicy details, which I can understand if you just don't find this series fascinating, but this video feels very insubstantial as a result, which is a shame since its so long and you often do such a great job.
Wait, did we watch the same webseries?? I absolutely ADORE the pacing of petscop. Sure, it gives you a bunch of questions, but as you go on, with each episode, you realize all the questions are interconnected. You dont get many answers but that doesnt change my enjoyment of the series, and I'm suprised you didnt get as much out of it as I did.
I agree that it's too slow and gets boring after a while. Perhaps the issue will fix itself once the series is over, but in it's unfinished state, it just feels kinda... bare and tedious.
Yeah, I like the abstract lingering feeling it has, and the timing and pacing gives you room to think instead of being bombarded with info. I like the subtle hints rather than in your face information, and I like how roundabout and creatively they go about sharing said info. Sometimes it feels boring, but that's to be expected tbh, and I'd rather have moments of boredom than something too obvious or boring constantly.
I disagree with your critiques of petscop for not giving enough clues and such because petscop never presented itself as an RNG kind of thing, they never interacted with the fans, don't have any social media except for the channel and never rewarded or encouraged looking for any clues. they are just uploading really vague videos and trying to tell a story in a way that they want to tell it and nothing more, it's not their responsibility to be interactive because their fans are interactive or to make it a satisfying puzzle because everyone that wants to solve it
@@ianalvord3903 on r/petscop many of us believe u/paleskowitz IS involved in the creation of petscop (because paleskowitz = pa + leskowitz = Paul Leskowitz.) The post this user made was what brought MOST of the viewers to the series (from what I've seen, y'know before youtubers with bigger followings picked it up) I mean the creators probably do actively engage in the community, just not in the most obvious way
The only part of Petscop that seems like a message directed at the audience is when the about page basically said "chill out, this isn't an ARG, just wait for new episodes".
Night Mind: "I didn't make videos about Petscop because all I would be doing is summarizing, without evidence to make conclusions." Petscop: *uploads 5 videos in a single day with tons of clarifying information to work with* Night Mind: *Spends 30 minutes summarizing the videos without theorizing, and 13 minutes complaining about how slow and cryptic it is.* I usually like your videos a lot (your House of Leaves series was fantastic), but this is the first one I've watched where it felt like you were wasting my time.
Honestly, watching some of Petscop's videos feels like a waste of time, too. It's hard to ignore that fact. Petscop really needs to give us something because right now, we have very very little. Precious little. It's been over two years and what do we know? Nightmind is simply pointing that out.
Well, I belive everyone should be more patient and not go for the series as the only thing that they can watch. If you throw away that view and be patient you will enjoy the series much more.
@@dorjjodvo1992 exactly, talk about a thing not giving any answers with tons of content, and he went ahead and gave us his personal interpretation based on his research. Here, we get none of that. Felt less like a nightmind vid and more like an ign review.
Disagree. While not necessarily every video, at least every cluster of videos, every lump upload, with reasonable consistency, showed us something of value. It seems, from what you're saying, your mainly referring to our ability to piece together the narrative. I've always been just as interested in the game. This game is something that was meant to be disassembled, by hand, on the player's end. I WANT to watch the character solve these puzzles. I WANT to see what assumption about video games is going to be broken and exploited. I super appreciate the notion of game glitches and backend nonsense being the only way to proceed. You didn't even talk about episode 21. The layers, Nick! THE LAYERS!
@@KittyCrystal I'd say it's the way it's being presented. We have a limited upload schedule. Did we really need Petscop 21? No. Probably not. Not unless that sign is going to be some sort of ground breaking revolution.
I totally agree with you. The fact that they show the character's action and movement is actually one of the point for the "input recording" thing. There's a lot of video in Petscop that we can sync the movement together. I'm disappointed that my beloved channel, NightMind, doesn't seem to acknowledge that fact. Still, this channel is amazing and I will keep supporting it. We have our own different opinions after all.
@@griefinnub3745 this isn't a difference in opinion, it is him doing a 40 minute video on a thing he did no research for. I loved the channel too, but don't defend this lazy crap just because you like what he use to do. That is how you get more lazy vids like this.
pyros vid was just night minds petscop in cliff notes to begin with so now this is out i bet $20 pyro sums up this video again in the next five days thats a guarantee.
I really dig petscop, I feel like it's too bad to hear you think we aren't getting anything. I've been watching people make all kinds of interesting connections since it started and many still hold up really well.
@@Noah-wv4td I haven't really gotten that sense personally. I sort of disagree with the interpretation that censorship was used to obfuscate key evidence. I've heard a few hypotheses for what might be behind the censors and the ones that I find plausible are things that wouldn't really help us unravel the lore, but are rather things real life people would be likely to censor. I kinda think for the amount of effort that went into this project, for the story to end up being improvised would be a terrible place to be slacking, so I guess I'm fairly optimistic about it, but there's always the possibility that the series ends up getting all tangled in nonsense mysteries after all.
@Rando - Literally no. It never claimed to be, people just saw that there was an overarching mystery and decided to play detective, including Nick. The point of Petscop is *Paul* solving the mystery. We're just here for the ride.
The Easter uploads really worked for me because they confirmed a lot of the fan theories that have been going around for a while and that felt very rewarding, all the while dropping new clues for further speculation and reveals. I really doubt the gaps in uploads are due to IRL delays, it all feels very planned and premeditated, and they left ample clues that they would be dropping videos on Easter.
Eh I'm with everyone else. It's pretty disappointing you think the pace is off. Every bit is satisfying for me because the medium is such a spectacle. I don't think it needs to pick up the pace, because that kind of rush can take a series and throw all the information down without actually thinking or turning it into art. The slow nature of the information provided makes the process feel more natural I feel like Paul is actually playing the game and is in on discovering the mystery with us. A quick edit to every part of the game that gives information would be awful. I get that you think the anticipation is too much but for a lot of us that's why we love this series.
Kinda bummed this video spent more time complaining than actually analyzing and discussing all of the information we got in recent uploads. I dont want those complaints to stand as the opinions of the community as a whole when many of us are happy with the pacing and delivery.
I feel like you're too obsessed with "solving the puzzle" to realise Petscop isn't about that the slightest. It's about how the process of attempting to solve it, finding new pieces is simply unnerving, to the audience, to Paul and to the audience again because of Paul's reaction or LACK thereof that's really been making me uneasy since it feels like he's dead... I get being a highly logical person since I'm one, but when it comes to some media it's just better to observe and experience the whole process of the story unfolding, not just waiting for the end, the final conclusion. I honestly doubt we'll ever get a 100% clear picture of the "plot" of Petscop even after the series is concluded, it's just not that type of thing. Then again, I might just come from a different background since I've never been much of a fan of ARGs, creepypasta etc since they've simply failed to engage me due to their straightforward nature. Because they're about what you're after - the solution. And that's not it to me. It's always that whatever our minds imagine is ten times scarier than what we can see, and the art of series like Petscop is provoking our minds to think these thoughts. To really stop caring all that much about being a detective and instead, delve into the feelings it invokes along the way... Really, the way these findings are completely non-chronological should've clued you as to what kind of series it is. Non-linear, completely, absolutely. I was in absolute awe with the findings during this Easter, the sheer amount of names on the logs truly chilled me, how many people were playing that game? How many more differences did the things they see have from what Paul has seen? Because that's what's exactly been shown there. Also I wish to add to my argument what most people in the comments have been saying: there were actually lots of concrete clues in this series. It would honestly be pretty hard to list them all just like that. Ehhh... so overall.... I'm really really disappointed in this video.
as much as i love your work, i have to say i disagree with your feelings about petscop's pacing. i have always found that the slow, creepy slither of information was the only way petscop could possibly work. those slow connections, that constant wondering and theorizing... it is, in that way, something that viewers can pick up on clues for and theorize about for days on end. i cannot imagine petscop being fast-paced. it is a story that is over twenty years in the making (from within its own universe) and we probably weren't meant to see it at all. that's what makes it so special. that's what keeps me interested and engaged, because there's so much that i DON'T know, that i SHOULDN'T know as someone who isn't a member of the family that petscop surrounds. all will be revealed in time. patience is the essence of petscop and i wouldn't have it any other way.
I agree. I've always loved that Petscop isn't about trying to be obviously scary, but about bulding atmosphere and tension while slowly giving abstract clues to a bigger story going on. Plus I feel like that there are some things that actually can be picked up on sooner than now, even if it's not with 100% confidence.
@@goatskin4487 i'm talking about the universe in which the story takes place; it's not "roleplaying" if an integral part of the story's mood is feeling like you're seeing something that you aren't supposed to see. the meta question of why the content is being shared to youtube as opposed to staying within the family (WITHIN THE UNIVERSE OF THE FICTITIOUS NARRATIVE) is one of the major components of petscop's appeal both as a webseries and as a fictitous let's play, especially considering the content of the channel's "about" section and the video descriptions. we don't know who is sharing the videos or why and that is a major part of the mystery of the story, which is why i quite like that the story feels far more like a slow creep of information than anything else.
I believe there were clues, actually. Like what others are saying, it feels like you watched a different webseries. In all honesty, I could probably say a lot more as well, but I'd just be repeating what others are saying over and over again. Sound familiar?
stop encouraging him to rush it. petscop has a unique atmosphere specifically because it doesn't present itself as consumable entertainment. it's a voyeuristic view into a family secret that we aren't neccecarily supposed to see.
Couldn't have described petscop better myself. I always felt like a fly on the wall whenever I see the petscop story unfold - we were never supposed to be directly involved as in a traditional ARG. Rather we are simply observing the story progress while guessing what will happen at every corner. It's like reading a mystery novel.
Solid answers are over-rated sometimes. I think all of the theories, creeps, feels, ambience, that almost Lovecraftian sense of mystery and dread are what makes Petscop great. The ponderings on free will, consciousness, child abuse, cyclical patterns, unlikely connections, abstract symbols, new gameplay mechanics, have all been thoroughly entertaining. The confusion is a big part of that, I think.
That's it! That vague Lovecraft creeping lingering abstract sensation, instead of this "boo, here's some puzzles" stuff. It's psychological and philosophical and takes it in new directions that I haven't seen in a lot of horror stuff. The confusion isn't a frustrating one, and if it is, you're looking at the whole game wrong then, cause it's supposed to be this light curious craving, not a "GODDAMNIT" moment. You want more, but in the natural way Petscop does it, not in this like "throw info in your face" manner that NM seems to expect.
I love that it's not giving any answers. Some of my favourite pieces of media are that of David Lynch, and he never explains anything ever. The intrigue of the show for me is the theorizing. Picking each new video clean for any bit of information possible and trying it in any way possible to try and find the answer. If they just gave us the answers then it would ruin the mystery. Even the amount of exposition that they gave in the most recent videos felt a bit forced because it was so much more than we had ever expected to get all at once. Petscop has been so incredible so far, I'm willing to wait years for the conclusion as long as they keep doing it the way they are now.
Glad someone mentioned Lynch. Petscop heavily reminds me of Lynch’s most inaccessible film Inland Empire. It’s also similar in structure with experimental and surrealistic editing and pacing along with absolutely no concrete exposition outside of a few establishing scenes. Also like Petscop it’s not just nonsense but requires a very fine comb to gather all the pieces.
That's exactly how I feel about Petscop. It's a lot of fun to watch videos on other people's theories and perspectives. I get excited when a new Petscop video is released, but I also get really excited knowing there will be a flood of new theory videos coming out after it. I don't need all the answers given to me at once, I'm just enjoying the ride. NM just seems really impatient with this. Sometimes it's just enjoyable to speculate and guess and try to draw connections. I don't mind waiting months on end to get new content. When I see a new Petscop come out I get just as excited about it as when I first started watching it a year ago.
Night Mind: "all I would've bern able to do making a video would have amounted to summarizing what happened in the uploads and then shrugging my shoulders" Also Night Mind: _summarizes what the majority of the fanbase knew before the Easter uploads and then shrugs his shoulders_
Dude, this doesn't even feel like one of your videos. I can see you really rushed it. The video is more than 40 minutes long and you didn't talk about almost anything. You repeated the same lines a lot and missed tons of clues that appeared in those last 5 uploads alone! You barely talked about them. And I thought everybody knew at this point that Paul is NOT in control of the channel, he recorded the footage, but he is not the one uploading or editing it. He wasn't even talking to the audience in the first uploads, he was talking to somebody specifically and using the videos to communicate with this person. Petscop has it's own way of telling it's story, it doesn't follow the traditional ARG structure, and that's great. I hadn't even noticed it until you brought it up. I think that shows just how it's not an important factor. But idk, maybe I'm just used to the Nightmare Masterclass videos about Petscop, where he talks more in depth about each upload.
@Justin O's Channel Nothing really makes it scary. It's more suspense, it conveys a sense of dread. It creates intrigue and makes you form questions in your head that keep you going.
Everyone really added to this. Despite your dissaproval even matpat had something diffrent that nobody else talked about. For example tool is a piano tuner. So indeed. Kudos to everyone who managed to come up with details
NM I like you stuff but I felt with this video and the last Petscop one that you had your ARG hat on way too tight. Petscop is more about intertwining themes than clues with a cut and dry solution. I feel like you were looking at it so hard and so precisely that you ironically missed a great deal.
Wait, does he actually think that he is able to manipulate Petscop's updates? I feel like this channel has become very cocky and overestimates the amount of power they have over these ARGs. It sometimes feels like the channel attempts to insert itself into these series, believing it's involved.
@@expendableindigo9639 he was sort of talking about it though like his talking about it had something to do with it, which, seeing how petscop really doesn't interact with the audience, is quite dubious.
oof okay ive got some thoughts on this one nick first of all, its gotta be said: its not a bad webseries just because you cant instantly unravel the narrative within a single night of research. acting like the classic marble hornets format is the end-all-be-all of ARG-like series is frankly narrowminded, and kind of verging on arrogance when one considers your “how to make a webseries” videos. also on that note... dude, we love you, but everybody had been expecting the easter uploads for a while before you “poked the bear”. not every webseries will directly interact with you like jack torrence. thats okay. just. give yourself a quick reality check man like i said, i usually love your videos, but it feels like you were so concerned with releasing a vid because of demand that you didnt put in the level of passion and respect that hooked a lot of us to your analysis videos. and then to end the thing annoyed at the pacing feels kind of irreverent to the source material, and just general bad form i guess. anyway, despite all this, thank you for uploading and i hope to see you back at your best in the near future. keep doing what you love dude
Also, the whole "I didn't have enough to work with" reads like his view as a creator instead of a viewer of Petscop. There's a difference to what is satisfying to an audience and the amount a content creator would need to make a video. I think he's acting like the two are the same. MH got slow sometimes, but it was fine because he was watching it and got to make videos later, with conclusions easier to give. He enjoyed it like a viewer. Petscop is too in progress and Nick watched it like a content creator. I'm fine with him hating it but I'm really disappointed in how I think this particular critique played out.
I honestly don't think the 300 people that liked this post actually have enough patience to read that much text. He literally talks about they love to post on holidays and how he's ate a ton of crow on other ideas he's been wrong about. It's theories I honestly don't get the impression he's bragging.
@@NapoleChan "I honestly don't think the 300 people that liked your comment read all that text" Buddy, that's called "projecting." Just because you didn't want to read it all doesn't mean everyone else doesn't... If you go to r/Petscop for even ten minutes (which would mean you did more research into petscop than Nick), I would challenge you to find a single a fan theory or idea that takes less than 2 full paragraphs to describe. Nick tried to take credit for Petscop uploading in the first two minutes of this video. I dare you to try to give me evidence as to the contrary. I don't understand how you can't feel the snide manner which he says that... He says: "Don't poke the bear, or it'll bite"... And then lists the four series that he feels HE kicked back into life, not fans or other creators, but talks about it like it's in general... That's egocentric as hell
agree entirely on everything. it was irritating to me that nick was critiquing something that isn't even done, and basically saying it's bad because there isn't enough for him to make a video about. that's too bad i guess? wait until it's done and then make a video?? eh, it was just kinda.... eh.
WalrusEternal 1) Nick didn’t say the series was bad, in fact he said multiple times that he thinks it’s a great series and an achievement. He was merely critiquing the continuous vagueness of the episodes, which is fine if you disagree. 2) he wasn’t literally taking credit, he was making a joke about how often the coincidence would happen about him commenting on how long it’s been since an upload and the series in question then uploading. I highly doubt he legit believes anybody reacted to him except for Jack Torrence.
Ouch. This felt like watching those “this is how you don’t play” about the game grumps where Arin ignores all the dialogue and hints the game gives him, then spends the whole play through complaining about things the game made obvious to anyone paying half attention. Petscop is a let’s play, we’re watching the character’s thought process play out, which is integral because it gives us moments like Marvin writing “did you di” before he changes it to “did you find lina”. You can’t compare it to MH which is a documentation of a bizarre experience, Hell, I wouldn’t compare any two webseries to each other! That’s something I’ve never liked you doing because I felt like you’d loose many points that way, and this is the prime example of that. Petscop isn’t an ARG because there’s no viewer input, it isn’t a game for us to play and interact with, it’s a webseries. Not everything that appears online will fit the mold of a previous series because they’re all made by different people with different capabilities and limitations and different stories that they want to tell or experiences they want to make, and it all being on the Internet strips away many restrictions they’d have with that. They can do anything they want. Personally I love and adore Petscop, but I’ve only reached this point after a year and a half of following it since the beginning, and these new updates aren’t anything like you described. It all made sense. Maybe “summarizing what happens in each upload and shrugging your shoulders” would’ve made you realize more and more what’s going on with time, and you’d be able to sit on it. Y’know, like with a real video game.
Petscop is not a puzzle series with dramatic elements. It's a dramatic series with puzzle elements. The major mysteries simply aren't ours to solve. "This is not for you" and all that. Seriously, if the Daisy-Head Mazie metaphor doesn't chill you, I don't know what to tell you. Marble Hornets was fantastic for its day but Rainer blows Alex out of the water.
Came here for spoopy stories. Left with a renewed sense of self-worth as a creator to create at my own pace without shaming myself to "be better" and "make more, faster"
this was really a terrible investigation. you just talk about the bare bones canon material that the easter update has given us that every other video essayer has pointed out by now and then you spend the last ten minutes of the video griping about how you're not being entertained enough. where are your own conclusions? where's the investigation?? you can't say that there's not enough information to approach it with confidence when you don't even try to piece what you're given together into a narrative, even if it could be wrong. that's the fun of petscop! there are so many ways it invites you to be active and make your own story from the info it gives you.
Ye, I agree, and apparently many people too. Many of the comments are about how disappointed people are with this video, and the others are pyrocinical jokes
Normally a huge fan of your uploads but I think you dropped the ball here. Normally you take a significant amount of time to analyze this type of content, but its barely been a week and you are already posting a video on it. I don't know why your entire fan base is turning on you but this video isn't up to your usual standards. If you don't like this series you shouldn't feel pressured to cover it, especially if you aren't going to give it the time it deserves. Like others have said it might be best to stick to completed content or shorter series.
Did he ask his viewers if he they wanted an analysis? If he didn’t want to do it he could’ve said it earlier after his last take on this series. It just gets people’s hopes up. It also would’ve at least removed pressure of satisfying his audience or anyone from the petscop community
Totally different perspectives, I'm loving it so far. The slow pace is very enjoyable for me as it makes it more ominous and mistérios, it feels more real to me. It actually feels like he is just wandering around and randomly finding the clues just like most people would in a very big place with very little things, but to each their own, your video is still perfect dude.
i enjoy it. it alows me to do other stuff whille i enjoy nicks content. maybe you should find creators more to your likeing than complain about someone not making exactly what you want?
It's a linear consequential story because it's not an ARG. It's a story in video game format, reminiscent of a let's play format with a creepy pasta. I think the pacing, the upload schedule, and the story reveal is all deliberate and ingenious. I feel like this slow process actually works for this story. Perhaps your expectations is to be able to solve the story before it it ends, but I personally want to unfold this on their own terms. Sorry but I have to respectfully have to disagree with this video, but it's ok. I will personally be awaiting the next chapter of this story.
Also like. I think another thing that people might or might not be realizing about the amount of time it takes for uploads to get out, is that our dude is programming a game from scratch. Any time there's a need to put in a feature that hasn't been showcased before, he needs to program it in, then test it, and test it, and test it, and make sure it won't bug out during capture. This isn't like regular acting where if a take goes bad, you can just tell the actors what's going wrong and have it fixed in the amount of screentime the take requires.
Except it is. In fact, it's easier. You can literally take out that section of code and redo it a thousand times, tweaking every single variable at your whim as many times as you want, every capture. There's no reason it should be this slowly done with this much 'nothing.'
They had been planning to update on Easter long before you "called them out", Nick. I love you, but please don't try to take credit for "poking the bear" into updating.
@@itsolie Yuuuup. It makes me sad because I've followed him from very early on and I never expected him to develop an ego like this. Jesus. Who does he think he is?
@@SamanthaPortUkulele Night Mind is presented from the point of view of the character Nick Nocturn, not Nick the behind-the-screen creator. Hes made this clear through Twitter and Tumblr. The played-up ego and paranormal abilities are all part of that (See: being wanted by the Foundation from SCP and knowing old magic in the jack Torrance cleansing videos). People need to clue into that, cause its causing people to be really salty.
@@conflictt3224 He needs to make that clearer within the channel itself, then. Not everyone has the time to follow his every tweet or whatever. If you don't, this just comes off like a legitimate egotistical asshole with shit like this. It doesn't seem fake or sarcastic at all, it seems like he genuinely believes he is responsible for Petscop finally updating.
I guess I was hoping this would end up as a 2 parter, because we got so much info to sift through, but all I can say is Im... kinda disappointed. If anything NightMind is the kind of person to go crazy looking into things, but here it felt rushed? Falling flat? At the very least I expected the intricacies to be prodded at more, and you of all people I expected to go digging into who u/paleskowitz is, and taking the connections of toneths description, the passage about Michael A telling his brother about not being able to be found because only Michael B exists now, "Daniel's Game," Rainer, Newmaker and how they are the same person with an indepth of supporting evidence... but this felt unenthusiastic.. for a moment I wondered if you even enjoyed making this? If you even enjoy making content anymore? I'm not saying you have to like Petscop.. I'm saying you should enjoy the content you're creating and it doesnt sound like you enjoyed this...
It felt more like he saw the new info and wanted to get credit for them uploading. It's clear he thinks any story or ARG that isn't the ones he likes is shit.
Nick: "I'm not going to fault Petscop for its upload schedule." Also Nick: "It shouldn't be so long between episodes, why did it take two years to get this far?" Love your content, but sometimes it seems like you're getting a wee bit too big for your britches as it were. On a lighter note: New theory on Rainer. There was an "Uncle Daniel" mentioned in the white text during the "retrace your steps" sequence, and also a Daniel mentioned as having something to do with Petscop. Rainer and Daniel are very close to each other in spelling (swap the N and I, replace the D and L with R's). Clue/lead?
His complaint is mostly a lack of substance in each episode, not really that they are so slow. The fact that they are so slow coupled with the lack of substance from his point of view just adds on top of things. He could have covered some of it better though and like you already saw above he did repeat a lot. Not his best episode but I feel like hes just burned out from all the webseries that he would normally tackle being on seemingly endless hiatuses, then finally getting a burst of activity that doesnt really add a ton he can pin down.
Is their a reason why you keep repeating the exact same sentences over and over again? I think I was okay with hearing about the windmill disappearing once, but you just won't stop repeating it
He brought up Petscop "not having any new evidence in each new video" Like half a dozen fucking times, and then ranted about it at the end. I got your opinion on the first one thanks. Are you not proofreading your scripts? Do you even have a script?
@@mohawklogan more watch time. He wants to have his 40 minute video for revenue but I guess didn't feel like putting in the actual work for it, so we get filler and weird narcicistic delusions.
god i used to love night mind's stuff on alan resnick because he did a good job finding patterns and connections and opening up catalysts for interpretation and discussion. nowadays he just skims over whatever horror project comes his way, makes very surface-level observations in an attempt to be "objective," and treats himself like the authority of Online Horror Media.
@@MrCrow05 My best guess is, he did not actually want to make this video, but felt pressured due to massive interest generated by the upload spike. NM's best work is usually him analyzing completed or self-contained works where there is an actual picture to put together. Petscop's nowhere near ready for that yet.
The first few episodes are pretty good. Early in Paul says that the game has a living presence inside of it. Then he begins descending into madness. It's a great premise. Is the game haunted or is Paul just crazy? Then it turns out that.. it's neither? The game is just a freaky Christmas gift meant to act as a family album and train AI.
Nick: [Doesn't bring up several points of evidence including REBIRTHING and a bunch of shit you can find out if you spend five minutes on r/petscop] Also Nick:"There's just not much to piece together"
IDK about him but when I analyse esoteric shit, I like to first make my own conclusions and then read stuff after I have a firm idea. IDK if he's like that but sometimes reading a ton of theories messes with your own essay structure.
Laura Palmer Vevo Whit the comment Can I have a coup of coffee black as midnight please? yea, those tribe twelve and Everyman hybrids where good, (besides tribe 12 tried to do a Twin Peaks like plot in the second half of is run) but even the occasional videos he made helped me discover some interesting content. From my personal Point, the true fall from quality began whit the whole Jack Torrence series, but it’s true that the content was lacking since Slenderverse.
I think this really kind of has to be paced this way? it's structured like a let's play, and sometimes nothing really happens in episodes of a let's play.
Honestly, I think this series pacing on answers is fine, at least binge viewing the videos. If it got incredibly specific and clear, the series would lose the feeling of the uncanny that it has going for it. What I deeply love about this series having watched it to catch up with this video is the sense that the game never becomes obviously haunted by a ghost, or directly responds to Paul in a non prerecorded way. Everything that happens is always just within the realms of possibility of what is programmable. Of course, it’s possible that I’m just undergoing the Steven Universe effect and am not yet annoyed with the pacing because I haven’t had to wait extended periods for new uploads yet.
@@MagicalHatStudios I haven't really experienced 'trauma' - just a couple of events that shook me up. I'm waiting for the chance to actually get the book cos there's none in my area and I don't really want to pay $50 for a book
For those dissatisfied with this analysis, Nightmare Masterclass has a series where he analyses each episode and goes more into the symbolism that wasn't even touched on here.
Actually, Nightmare Masterclass just makes stuff up most of the time since he has absolutely no idea what is going on either. Nobody does. Petscop is a study in how much you can string along an audience with pure nonsense. Quite a bit, as it turns out.
I had actually expected Petscop to update around Easter; the channel pic was replaced with an Easter egg, and from previous events, where an empty and dark pic meant no uploads were on their way, the changed seemed to indicate that updates were on their way, as well as a clue to when we would get them. I wasn't expecting five videos though.
In Petscop the creators aren't going to be the feeding hand. You have to first find the food and then eat it by yourself. That's why I like it so much, it's all about the mystery and being left in the dark
Exactly. Petscop isn't your run of the mill mystery story that strives to feed you with entertainment. If you want it you gotta earn it by yourself. Theres work involved even on the viewer's part. Thats why its awesome. The loose ends allow various interpretations that are equally plausible and makes it a great area for discussion.
@@GameIsMyOxygen Yes, exactly. That's why I love ARGs so much, it's not just a show you mindlessly consume and move on to the next one, it's a freaking puzzle.
Did he not even want to put out a completion video on Petscop when it wrapped? Finished series are pretty up his alley and he could have some valuable insight. That being said, Nightmare Masterclass has a much more in-depth series on Petscop where he does legitimate and thorough research that takes the themes into account and doesn't treat it like a failed ARG. Go watch that, Nightmare Masterclass needs way more love than he gets.
About the long distance releases, you can't ask more from Petscop. Because the dates of the events are so important, and you can argue about whether it's a good choice or not, but you can't deny it's original and it makes it feel like it's getting frozen in time. Also, since the major Petscop events range from 1997 to 2000, and the channel is already 2 years old, we can expect the whole thing to be over next year at worst. Nothing sure but I think there's a high chance. Also, remember Petscop it's not ar ARG, it doesn't "need" us to do anything, it's a story that someone wants to show to the world and it's gonna wait all the time it takes to do so.
To be fair, a lot of people would be upset if he didn't make a video on this series he clearly dislikes. He pretty much sealed his fate by ever mentioning Petscop in the first place.
Super disappointing. I've been a fan of your content since the start, and yet I find myself finally wondering if I should bother staying subscribed. The issue of the ignorance of the themes and various plot points of Petscop that we've had even BEFORE the Easter update aside... The arrogance. You didn't poke the bear, Nick. We all had expected an Easter update because of the updates to the Petscop page literally featuring an EASTER egg, and talking about an Easter egg hunt. And with all this arrogance like you're the smartest guy in the room, you're ignoring tons of things - Daniel's game. Rainer. Daniel, Michael Hammond's brother, is Rainer. Gara. Lina. Marvin has always been considered, at the very least, to be a representation or recording of a real person, Marvin. The husband. C'mon, dude.
Yeah I have to agree with you, NM has gotten really weirdly self-important over the last couple of years, as if all of these things are only happening because he's here to talk about them. It's hard not to cringe at that 'Wow guys I totally made this massive update happen' attitude when anyone who's been paying attention could see the Easter update coming a mile away.
@@sr212787 even the defensive fanboys are running out of energy at this point. So nick is a comedian now? Maybe he should make people laugh then, or at least be mildly entertaining. This is just embarrassing.
No, no. You don't get to make the rules and then be disappointed when they are broken. Petscop is not made for you to make a solid theory on. This is one of the most unique and powerful pieces of art on the internet. Why would you want it to be like everything else?
I gotta say, I thought the uploads were nice. The pacing isn’t any different than any other ARG. Jack Torrance literally didn’t upload for forever and then started again. Same with EMH this year AND Tribe Twelve. I figured you of all people would be accepting of irregular uploads. Do you just not like this one? It’s okay to not like it, but at least give people the kind of content they expect from you. We love your stuff man, but this one just. Isn’t it.
I actually enjoy the fact that petscop uploads so infrequently. It creates suspense for me and makes me excited to see a new episode rather than just having it forcefed to me all at once. I like having the time to theorise and be proven wrong or proven right and then be given more time to theorise
Anyone else really bothered by how many time NM reads the same text boxes over and over? Also pretty arrogant to claim that you 'poked the bear' and were the reason Petscop updated, not like there were any narrative benefits to an Easter update or other youtubers doing these same videos. Self important much?
Yeah, that just smacked of arrogance to me and it really did not sit well at all. I know he claims credit for Jack Torrance, and I guess that gave him a massive ego, enough so that he earnestly believes he's responsible for this, too. Honestly...I've been not really enjoying Nick's content as much lately. I was really disenfranchised with his HoL butchering, where he spent most of it hawking his own side project, only to try and tie it all back in in the third one, but really, all he did was reiterate that Johnny is a shitty liar and that we shouldn't trust him. Not exactly breaking new ground. I kinda get where he's coming from here, but he misses vast portions of the lore and the history of Petscop. The reason the items were censored was to gain Paul's trust, not prevent us from "seeing the truth". I see what he means about waiting so long, but he never was this impatient with Alan Tutorial, or EverymanHybrid, who also took years to tell their stories and had _massive_ gaps between uploads. Same with TheSunVanished. Since when did he start caring about long hiatuses? It's just....sloppy. Very, very sloppy.
I knew that Care was kidnapped just based on that damned calendar. The pattern was every other week, then weekends, then everything for several months. The first part is consistent with a divorce, and most kids are abducted by one of their parents when settlement terms become disagreeable to them.
Ah damn man. What a bummer of a half-baked episode. I'm really disappointed. I've followed your channel for a while and I really, really was looking forward to this. I actually spent a chunk of time defending you (prior to this) in the Petscop sub. But now I feel kinda like an idiot for doing so.
Rayne Dayz Someone else said it too I mean as a content creator you make content for your viewers so it has to be your absolute best. Answer this. Was this video of the same quality as his usual videos? It’s not just about doing your best. There are people actually supporting you and giving that support constantly that helps maintain an excellent level of quality. If the people were disappointed then it’s telling you that you failed to keep that level of quality. If you keep “trying” your best then who would want to watch half assed content? And I’m sorry but as viewers we have every right to dislike something we don’t think was good enough. After all we’re the ones giving the support. Why wouldn’t we get good content in exchange? If it sound harsh I’m sorry but I really was looking forward to these videos on Petscop since it really is mind boggling. If what people are saying is true about the video then I won’t waste my time watching it? 😅 Two heads are better than one but I guess I can’t rely on this one.
Petscop just finished its question arc, now the answer arc begins, hopefully. Edit: Is it really fair to criticize petscop because the viewing experience isn't how you want it? Doing things more actively and making it more about solving the mystery instead of coming along for the ride would turn it into something different. better? maybe. but it still wouldn't be the same series.
I love Petscop, because yeah... like you said. It's not an ARG. It's a story about an ARG. The story isn't "what is this video game telling us" it's "this person's experience trying to figure out what that video game is trying to tell them". I'm way more invested in the OP's emotional journey than the meta-narrative of the game. The game isn't the plot, it's lore; we *cannot* figure it out on our own because we lack the lived context of our protagonist and he only tells us a fraction of what he's thinking. Figuring out lore is fun, but is icing not the cake. But I absolutely respect that that's not your cup of tea. Not every project will be for every one and that's okay.
I think, that what happened here is, that you really wanted Petscop to be your cup of tea, but it just simply isn't a type of series, that you might enjoy. I got that vibe from your first video on Petscop where you were shocked and dismissive about the rebirthing theory. Now that the pauses in uploads bother you this much, well yeah, I think it is a good idea for you to just sit this one out- don't force yourself just cause it's a popular series and people might want you to watch and review it. It's okay, really. The waiting time serves a narrative purpose and for many people it's worth the wait. I, for one, think that Petscop as a series might've actually been completed for a while now but the creator(s) simply wait for the appropriate time to post new episodes. I don't agree, that new updates ruin previous fan theories- for instance, some fans believed the Paul is Care theory very early on and now it pays off when the game gives us more confirmation on this.
hate to say this but this video video was basically you hating on petscop because its "not like other ARG's" or something like that. petscop isn't an ARG, its a narrative video series. its not intended for viewers to really "interact" with, its paul solving the mystery and we're just along for the ride, like someone else said.
12:55 Actually several games back then had the ability to record gameplay. Doom is the most notable, it records the players button inputs and can play them back as a demo. Most games that have a demo feature (like when you leave the game on the title screen and some recorded gameplay kicks on) uses a similar, if not the same, method. So if this is a copy meant for developers, its very possible and believable that they could have a demo feature.
I don't want to recognize it, but this is video is the last straw for me about this channel. I never was a fan of Petscope (I think it's way over rated) so, please don't take this as another fanboy white-knighting for his favorite webserie. Even if only for my sake, I want to vent some things. First, You need to check your ego. I don't think the webserie made a major release BECAUSE of you. Second, your videos were always a mountain of hard work. You took the time it needed and that's what earned you the respect of some (or at least mine). Since HTMAW you come accross as to have stopped caring. This video seem more like a 45 min rant than even an attempt to an analysis. It's been 4 years, it wouldn't surprise anyone if you're tired of doing the same type of content over and over. Your house of leave series is an indicator you want to create something else, then do it. Create a new channel, release what's eating you from the inside and let it live and thrive on it's own merit before it destroy what you took 4 years to build.
I usually am lazy and just watch review videos of series instead of the actual thing (partially because I have a short attention span) but you've shamed me into stopping that habit and I'm glad you did! Keep up the good work!
With Sockmuppet preparing more Petscop-related videos, I've taken to rewatch yours. And I'm still amused at how you were the only one calling out Petscop's direction -- with even me questioning your take -- and getting flak for it when it turned out you were dead right. You were discussing Unfiction as much as you were discussing Petscop.
i didn't expect the end of this video to basically be complaining about the story telling choices of the petscop creator/s. i think your criticisms are valid, but i also believe that whoever makes petscop couldn't care less if what they're making adheres to expectations of quality, schedule, story beats, or whatever else. honestly my read on the series is "this has been finished for a long time and now the creator is uploading videos based on a specific schedule," and i think that's the intention regardless of whether it's actually true. i don't think you're supposed to pay attention to petscop the way you would an actual ARG. petscop is an oddity to look at when it appears, and forget about when it goes away. if the creator intended it to be any other way, it wouldn't be the antithesis of everything you'd expect. or, maybe that's just the way i look at it. it's difficult to describe what i mean.
Kronos Dorma ego is essential for physicality, and the lesser emotions of the all, to have this human experience, and to move other humans’ emotions with your creations. For example, I’m replying because of my ego, being compelled to type this. Lol. Ignore me..

(So that the main character can find them, true but if the story is already complete why such a slow reveal?)
I think if you're a ARG player you would be looking for games to play.
I do think this "ARG" has enough clues and story to get ARG players interested, and these players would think this is an ARG.
(ARG game elements means clues and leads.)
Edit: players
@@10coatofarms68 ARG elements is fan interactions, not clues. There are many great mystery shows that promote you to look for clues and try figure it out as you go along, but these are not ARGs. Petscop is not an ARG, and it was wrong for Night Mind to treat it as such.

Petscop seems to be a story about child neglect.

He also kinda glossed over the Reiner talking to Paul about him being care. Which is one of the biggest bombshells of the whole series

The puzzle does come out of the box completed sometimes, but i get your point.
Ikr? It’s so much fun!
Yeah like the whole series is mysterious but always gives you something pretty concrete to chew on. Even the pacing is sick.

I kinda think for the amount of effort that went into this project, for the story to end up being improvised would be a terrible place to be slacking, so I guess I'm fairly optimistic about it, but there's always the possibility that the series ends up getting all tangled in nonsense mysteries after all.

I enjoy the slow drip process of Petscop. I don't need a giant info dump to make it feel worthwhile. I like the excruciating details.
Plus I feel like that there are some things that actually can be picked up on sooner than now, even if it's not with 100% confidence.
also, it very much suits the idea of it being a let's play series first and foremost
Stop roleplaying in the comments. You should know that stuff since your a viewer and this is a mystery.

Couldn't have described petscop better myself. I always felt like a fly on the wall whenever I see the petscop story unfold - we were never supposed to be directly involved as in a traditional ARG.
Agreed, I like the slow buildup as some of our theories from early on start to become more and more likely.

As soon as he said Paul was the one censoring it I cringed. The family is the only one with communication directly to the audience
yeah he repeated the same bit like 4 times

NM I like you stuff but I felt with this video and the last Petscop one that you had your ARG hat on way too tight. Petscop is more about intertwining themes than clues with a cut and dry solution. I feel like you were looking at it so hard and so precisely that you ironically missed a great deal.
Wait, does he actually think that he is able to manipulate Petscop's updates? I feel like this channel has become very cocky and overestimates the amount of power they have over these ARGs. It sometimes feels like the channel attempts to insert itself into these series, believing it's involved.
Well, he was guessing based on the typical upload schedule of UA-camrs, and he was right.
@@expendableindigo9639 he was sort of talking about it though like his talking about it had something to do with it, which, seeing how petscop really doesn't interact with the audience, is quite dubious.
oof okay ive got some thoughts on this one nick
first of all, its gotta be said: its not a bad webseries just because you cant instantly unravel the narrative within a single night of research. acting like the classic marble hornets format is the end-all-be-all of ARG-like series is frankly narrowminded, and kind of verging on arrogance when one considers your “how to make a webseries” videos.
also on that note... dude, we love you, but everybody had been expecting the easter uploads for a while before you “poked the bear”. not every webseries will directly interact with you like jack torrence. thats okay. just. give yourself a quick reality check man
like i said, i usually love your videos, but it feels like you were so concerned with releasing a vid because of demand that you didnt put in the level of passion and respect that hooked a lot of us to your analysis videos. and then to end the thing annoyed at the pacing feels kind of irreverent to the source material, and just general bad form i guess.
anyway, despite all this, thank you for uploading and i hope to see you back at your best in the near future. keep doing what you love dude
Nick tried to take credit for Petscop uploading in the first two minutes of this video. I dare you to try to give me evidence as to the contrary. I don't understand how you can't feel the snide manner which he says that...

1) Nick didn’t say the series was bad, in fact he said multiple times that he thinks it’s a great series and an achievement.
I really don't think you poked a bear, I think petscop was gonna update regardless of if you had mentioned it in a tweet or not
Petscop is not a puzzle series with dramatic elements.
Love your vidoes dude, but I have to disagree with you on the pacing of the story.
But I guess that's down to personal preference.
I can see why he didn't want to rush into this. This video felt more like cliffnotes than a discussion or explanation.
this was really a terrible investigation. you just talk about the bare bones canon material that the easter update has given us that every other video essayer has pointed out by now and then you spend the last ten minutes of the video griping about how you're not being entertained enough. where are your own conclusions? where's the investigation?? you can't say that there's not enough information to approach it with confidence when you don't even try to piece what you're given together into a narrative, even if it could be wrong. that's the fun of petscop! there are so many ways it invites you to be active and make your own story from the info it gives you.
Man, your narrating and editing has taken a turn. That's sad, I really enjoy how you did things a year or 2 ago.
Yes!
Do you HAVE to re-read the entire notes every time?
With how convoluted and bread crumpy the story is I don't blame him
i enjoy it. it alows me to do other stuff whille i enjoy nicks content.
maybe you should find creators more to your likeing than complain about someone not making exactly what you want?
Found the person who's never had to compile anything in their lives.
They had been planning to update on Easter long before you "called them out", Nick. I love you, but please don't try to take credit for "poking the bear" into updating.
the way he said it as well. it made him sound so entitled and that he beloved it was just for him.
@@itsolie Yuuuup. It makes me sad because I've followed him from very early on and I never expected him to develop an ego like this. Jesus. Who does he think he is?
Yeah that was discusting
He didnt even research and said that we dont know how the phonetic language works when it has been decoded since when? Around october past year?
Nick: "I'm not going to fault Petscop for its upload schedule."
Also Nick: "It shouldn't be so long between episodes, why did it take two years to get this far?"
Love your content, but sometimes it seems like you're getting a wee bit too big for your britches as it were.
Not an ARG. It's just a slow~burn puzzle.
Is this really the same guy who made that wonderful DHMIS video?
Years have not been nice to him, apparently.
Guess I'll just have to wait for Nightmare Masterclass to do a video on Petscop with actual info.
To be fair, at least Night Mind didn't suggest that Petscop was promoting a socialist agenda.
@@GolfhausYT because he didnt suggest anything at all lol
god i used to love night mind's stuff on alan resnick because he did a good job finding patterns and connections and opening up catalysts for interpretation and discussion. nowadays he just skims over whatever horror project comes his way, makes very surface-level observations in an attempt to be "objective," and treats himself like the authority of Online Horror Media.
@@henry2ish I just got a very dismissive vibe from this video and I found it off-putting.
Man Nightmind has really fallen off since the Jack Torrance videos.
Nick: [Doesn't bring up several points of evidence including REBIRTHING and a bunch of shit you can find out if you spend five minutes on r/petscop]
Also Nick:"There's just not much to piece together"
IDK about him but when I analyse esoteric shit, I like to first make my own conclusions and then read stuff after I have a firm idea. IDK if he's like that but sometimes reading a ton of theories messes with your own essay structure.
And so, NM fell from grace started. that intelligent, charming analyst is slowly going away.
that started immediately after his slenderverse series ended
Laura Palmer Vevo Whit the comment Can I have a coup of coffee black as midnight please? yea, those tribe twelve and Everyman hybrids where good, (besides tribe 12 tried to do a Twin Peaks like plot in the second half of is run) but even the occasional videos he made helped me discover some interesting content. From my personal Point, the true fall from quality began whit the whole Jack Torrence series, but it’s true that the content was lacking since Slenderverse.
Rykia Harada thats fair enough
It feels like forever since I've watched a night mind video - but thats because I haven't read house of leaves :'o
High Voltage Thank you for not robbing yourself of that experience by watching the vids instead! You’ve got a strong will!
Saaammee I’m sooo excited for a new video that I can watch
I wouldn't recommend House of Leaves to any kind of trauma victim, otherwise what are you waiting for?
@@MagicalHatStudios I haven't really experienced 'trauma' - just a couple of events that shook me up. I'm waiting for the chance to actually get the book cos there's none in my area and I don't really want to pay $50 for a book
MagicalHatStudios I have a traumatic experiences so I just was going to sit that one out
For those dissatisfied with this analysis, Nightmare Masterclass has a series where he analyses each episode and goes more into the symbolism that wasn't even touched on here.

Also, remember Petscop it's not ar ARG, it doesn't "need" us to do anything, it's a story that someone wants to show to the world and it's gonna wait all the time it takes to do so.
this video was super disappointing with the constant repeating, the "critique" at the end, and the clear lack of research that went into this...
MetalDC agreed. Real sloppy effort.
To be fair, a lot of people would be upset if he didn't make a video on this series he clearly dislikes. He pretty much sealed his fate by ever mentioning Petscop in the first place.
The censors have a point. Once you see them, you're family. For them to not be censored might be something, like maybe there's a new channel owner.
>when game theory makes a better video on an arg then you do
BIG OOF
Lmao ikr
It's a joke, not a Dick. Don't take it so hard.
Eh, while I 100% disagree with Nick's criticisms, this video wasn't THAT bad.
Just a swing and a miss, we all have those sometimes.

You don't get to make the rules and then be disappointed when they are broken. Petscop is not made for you to make a solid theory on.
This is one of the most unique and powerful pieces of art on the internet. Why would you want it to be like everything else?
Someone's salty that other opinions exist. Do people have to like Petscop because MattPatt is sucking the tit so dry?
This whole video summarizes why I haven’t enjoyed your content for years.
Infomation in this video could be condensed into 10 minutes man. You read whole messages over and over, slowly.
Wieprzek doesn’t even feel like he watched this vid after editing it.
Anyone else really bothered by how many time NM reads the same text boxes over and over? Also pretty arrogant to claim that you 'poked the bear' and were the reason Petscop updated, not like there were any narrative benefits to an Easter update or other youtubers doing these same videos. Self important much?
I want to believe that he’s doing it to be tongue in cheek.
@@hoodspawn9073 yeah, nothing to do with a longer watch time being more profitable.
Vilesentry I want to be foolish. Please, let me dream.
Very, very sloppy.
i mean he was probably joking but okay
I knew that Care was kidnapped just based on that damned calendar. The pattern was every other week, then weekends, then everything for several months. The first part is consistent with a divorce, and most kids are abducted by one of their parents when settlement terms become disagreeable to them.
Ah damn man. What a bummer of a half-baked episode. I'm really disappointed. I've followed your channel for a while and I really, really was looking forward to this. I actually spent a chunk of time defending you (prior to this) in the Petscop sub. But now I feel kinda like an idiot for doing so.
BTempp dude chill. He does his best. Try to appreciate the effort he did put in instead of trying to bring him down.

I mean as a content creator you make content for your viewers so it has to be your absolute best.
Two heads are better than one but I guess I can’t rely on this one.
Also why so many expressions use food as metaphor? Am I just hungry?
