Thanks to "The Crown", I learned about Katherine and Nerissa, the cousins who were locked up in a mental institution, and never spoken about. Margaret was horrified when she learned about their treatment, and it says a lot that they were willing to keep them hidden to avoid further scandal.
Thanks to the crown you now have a completely inaccurate idea about what happened to these women. The royals had nothing to do with that. It’s just a show.
Reputation is more about appearances though than reality . In the past no one would take them to task on the colonial issue making their reputation pristine .
What’s important for the monarchy is the reputation it has in the UK. Since colonialism is linked to UK history in general I don’t think that it’s something that threatens the survival of the monarchy.
Charles could have spent his life with the woman he loved. Instead he left her and married a virtual stranger, just so that he could wear a crown he didn't receive until he was 74.
What a completely ignorant uninformed thing to say. It is so irritating when people who know utterly nothing about the subject at hand spout their opinion online.
Come on, even in Season 5, The Crown was very soft to the monarch only touching the personal scandals, but totally ignore the little, tiny detail of the Queen wanting that the taxpayers pay the renovation of the Windsor Palace after burn down, after they refuse, she had to back down, and not only pay it with her own money but also give a tiny, tiny tax.
Something that's really stood out to me from watching the crown is the monarchy is also in so many ways a insane human rights violation for the members of the Royal family. Monarchys belong back in a time when human rights hadn't been considered yet, now we can't realistically hold both at once
There was no universal suffrage at the time so anyone taking over from the monarchy through a revolution such as Oliver Cromwell in England or Napoleon Bonaparte in France was just another monarch. Different family but the same set up. Oliver Cromwell was going to pass the baton onto his son on his death.
Katherine and Nerissa's shared story isn't the first time the royals have covered up the various disabilities, suffered by some of its members. There's a wonderful documentary, called "Prince John: The Windsors Tragic Secret", which details the struggles of one of Elizabeth's uncles with both epilepsy, and what historians now believe was an autism-spectrum disorder. He died in his mid-teens, due to complications from a severe seizure. Pictures of him are rarely shown, and mentions of him by name are even rarer. (11/19/2022)
At least Prince John was treated a lot better than Katherine and Nerissa as he was kept in a cottage on the Sandringham Estate with full time staff such as his nanny. I think he was allowed to roam the estate. He was regularly visited by his siblings.
Catherine and Marissa story really gives me an overwhelming feeling of disgust sadness and truly makes me feel uneasy and uncomfortable about what they did to them.
The mere fact that Meghan still gets more hate than Prince Andrew is proof of how much power they have over the tabloids. Also, the fact that Meghan receives MORE hate than Wallis Simpson is ridiculous considering her Nazi empathy. They literally had the chance to protect Harry and his family, and they decided to not learn from their past mistakes. I'm not comparing Meghan to Diana, they are very different people with very different circumstances. But the overall story remains the same- tabloids about how "dramatic" or "selfish" Diana was in the palace is being reflected non-stop with what's being written currently about Meghan. It seems like the men get away with actual crimes while the woman are damned for just wanting happiness (this excludes the late Queen, RIP- she did some awful stuff too)
The hypocrisy of them by ascertaining money from a company that sells royal titles in the same video where they critique the Royals is incredible. SMH 🙄
@Generation Next from the research I gathered, it just donates portion of their money to the company who does the planting, but it's the tiniest percentage of their money. Plus, the AD language is very misleading and you are not a lord or lady officially, its just a custom, PLUS you do not actually own that little piece of land. So basically it's just a very expensive souvenir without any real thing behind it.
It's not by far the worst revelation about the royal family, but what really irritated me was when I learned that one major reason why they dismissed Camilla and chose Diana as future wife for Charles was because even in the late 70ties, early 80ties they still considered it a necessity for the future queen consort to be a virgin at the wedding. 🤯 A virgin bride for a man in his 30ties! 🤮 Talk about medieval traditions!
I think one of the reason for that was to avoid someone releasing stories about their sexual encounters with the future Queen. But yeah I mean the age gap between Diana and Charles is pretty disturbing in general.
For further information, I highly recommend the Diana episodes made by the podcast You're Wrong About. It's a five parter. Also the podcast Behind the Bastards had a two-parter on the Potato Hunger if you want to feel very, very disgusted. Watch the movie RRR as a palate cleanser.
Hahahaha, RRR is a convincingly entertaining fiction loosely based on actual events. With one of the most popular Telugu Tollywood actors playing the late Gond folk hero Komaram Bheem, it’s pretty cool.
Weirdly, we here in the States hold our politicians and celebrities in the same high esteem the RF was/is held in. Either the law is applied to everyone or it is applied to no one.
I find it funny how it seems like both William and Harry have tried to "right the wrongs" of their parents' relationship, each in their own way. William has found himself a wife who was fully aware and accepting of all the consequences that come with being part of that family; he has managed to have two women (maybe more) agree to his lifestyle. He has done it the way his father should have: letting everyone involved know what they're involved in... and Harry has chosen a wife who, like Diana, is way too free-minded and independant for this family, but instead of letting her down, he stood by her side and showed us how you actually treat a princess... like he wish his father would have done.
Anyone who thinks Diana wasn’t taken out is fooling themselves. They weren’t about to have the future King of England having a divorced wife still living, sharing custody of the princes, getting engaged to a Muslim and possibly birthing Dodi’s child…and above all else, the people LOVED her. She reflected a real person in the heart of the monarchy, which means she needed to be snuffed out. So when you have a person, who the majority of people identify with, stating the RF is a group of cold, heartless, greedy lizard people (and yes, Diana did call them Lizards and Reptiles more than once) and here’s Diana running a campaign for the end of use of land mines (Hello industrial war complex and weapon manufactures) she sadly never stood a chance. She was just too dangerous, she was there at a crucial time of the monarchy no longer being needed and was the voice to get them ousted by the people. RIP Diana, the true people’s princess and for all the faults in the monarchy, RIP Queen Elizabeth II. She never wavered and did her duty till the end, however her last act should’ve been to abolish the monarch system.
Charles being king IS a scandal tho… for years he implied he would abdicate in favor of William and it was promised that Camilla would never be allowed to hold the title of queen AND YET
Interesting video overall. The British royals have always had their own fair share of scandals and controversies over the years and possibly even decades.
Over the centuries, actually, even if you count only Hapsburgs and their direct lineal descendants who are still on the throne. Want to go back to earlier dynasties? Great, there are lots more scandals.
As a Canadian I've been more vocal since the Queen's death about Canada leaving the commonwealth, like Barbados did recently. . I hope the british people are given the chance to vote on a referendum to abolished the monarchy in the near future. Fun fact: the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador is 1 and 3/4 the size of the UK.
Very interesting video… I know that people either love or hate Meghan Markle, but either way I feel like them embracing her was an opportunity for them to show that they are more progressive and modern… also, in a weird way it may have been a way to show that they have a grown since Princess Diana (Diana was an outsider who was not treated well, and Meghan Markle could have been an outsider that was embraced). The world was watching when she entered their family, and it did not go well….
I just have the feeling that in both cases (Diana and Megan) the royal family was under the illusion that they would gain without having to give. You cannot call for a wind of change and then disgruntly cling to the things it's blowing away.
@@SlapstickGenius23 She sure was, but we all know by now that she wasn't Prince Charles first choice. She was danced about in front of him like a spoonful of puréed turnip in front of a baby because she was young and charming and the press didn't find any dirt on her. Meghan obviously was Harrys choice, but we all know that this is a match that wouldn't have been accepted not so long ago and it's probably still a choice that William as heir of the throne couldn't have made. But I guess the Royal Family wanted to show that they have evolved and learned from their mistakes and furthermore, that their institution is not as elitist and racist anymore as it used to be. Instead they proofed that it's still elitist and racist enough to drive a woman like Meghan to her breaking point. I guess now they have exactly what they wanted to avoid: a new Wallis Simpson situation (in terms of a family member breaking away and going into exile, not in terms of the abdication, of course).
Of course the Monarchy silences people & turns a blind eye towards extramarital affairs! Please know I don't post that in an argumentative or confrontational tone at all - it's just how they roll. The Royals (afaik, in all cultures) have long had mistresses/lovers, tried to repress anything that doesn't paint them in a flattering light, & utilized shifty or underhanded tactics in regards to money/taxes/public relations, etc... I'd assume as long as there has been any kinds of "dominion" (this includes modern politics, as well...), there has been a disparity between the public image re: the aristocracy/current party in power vs. their (decreasingly) private one... Any system in which rank, power, &/or notoriety is involved is (at bare minimum) at least **partially** corrupt ...if not fully; even in less "conventional" institutions & industries. This includes all arenas from Hollywood/Entertainment to Sports/the athletic industry to even our own varying modern day obsessions with media - social & otherwise. This extends to "Instafame"/"life staging"/Photioshop & the increase in image & body dysmorphia to even compulsory fixation on post-millennium issues such as "having enough likes/followers/attention to feel validated" to excessive concern over how their peers/friends/coworkers/family perceive their lives... Imo, there are infinite societal "Caste Systems" (be they enforced/culturally normalized, or be they more abstract/intangible in nature). The world is just living on public access 24/7 now (with often indelible "receipts" of any & all indiscretions) vs. the increased control over facade that humankind once possessed pre-Industrial Revolution... I'm in agreement with your upload/opinions proposed - just felt like dropping in my 2 cents on the matter, lol... K, I'll shut up now, haha... TY for allowing me to share!
Great vid! You did bury part of the lead however. The Royals line actually is more German, they changed name to Windsor since it sounded more English. This also ties into portion about N*zi history.
The stuff about the monarchy supporting Nazis is a stretch though. It was one one disgruntled member. Even Phillip, the guy whose whole family was German, had a distinguished war record fighting Nazis.
Even George III married a German and one of his sons, the Duke of Kent, did as well. He was the father of Queen Victoria and died while she was very young. His older brothers did not have surviving legitimate children so Victoria was next in line after William. George V also married a German, Princess Mary of Teck. The Duke of Edinburgh's mother was also German though he had Greek and Danish ancestry as well. It all started with a daughter of James II marrying into the German royal family. After the death of Queen Anne there were no other surviving descendants of James II in Britain so the second cousin of Queen Anne, George I from Hannover, moved to England to be the next monarch. He could hardly speak English so communicated only in German and French. His son, the future George II, was also born in Hannover. George II outlived his eldest son so the crown passed to his grandson, George III, on his death.
13:15 that’s Winnipeg Canada where I live!! It’s Queen Victoria’s statue and honestly I was heartbroken because I know so much about her personal life I feel I know her. But I understand if anyone watching this video about how terrible the monarchy is doesn’t agree with me.
I get what you're saying. It's not Queen Elizabeth's fault that colonization happened. It's just an unfortunate byproduct of nations with more strength and resources taking over other nations with resources because it benefits them. People destroying property that isn't theirs never solves anything. Besides, the politicians in the US are paid by taxpayers; yet they don't do sh*t.... they get voted in by imbeciles and make a career out of it while being part of scandal after scandal and making millions upon millions and in the meantime, tell the rest of us "peons" what not to do while they do exactly THAT. Ridiculous.
It’s odd that an American media outlet has this much of a stance on the UK Royals. When they say “the” royals, it should say the UK royals as we in the US do not have a monarchy. And I’m saying this as an American who lived in the Uk for a bit. The US cares way too much about the social or governmental part of the UK royals. We can all emphasize their role in history without over grandiosely stanning them.
We like to call anyone narcissistic today - it’s losing its meaning. Narcissistic people have little to no empathy. All these people talking are just peddling lies for like.

When the Take drops their next video early, find their pinned comment and see if you can ask them directly. I'm still searching, too. I'm actually perplexed.
I think Harry should have bared far more scrutiny in this video for all the framing around the royals' imperialistic past. Harry has been photographed and recorded doing racist and antisemitic things in the 2000s!! If you are going to give Charles grief over what he said in the 70s, Harry's actions needed MORE scrutiny as horrible actions completely inappropriate for modern times. Why is Harry being protected from scrutiny? Does it not fit the media framing since their departure from the royal family? He has been the most protected royal because of his bad behavior in modern times and he barely got a one liner.
His brother did the exact same things it's just William was protected by the royal press core and Harry was not. There are shady things about William that people in the media can't even speak of.
God, so glad we got rid of the Habsburgs, not much of an empire left for them but they'd also be so embarrassing, my mom used to work for the current head of the family and...thank GOD this guy doesn't represent Austria 🤦
Thank you for pointing out that the royals, including and I would insist ESPECIALLY Di, actively court the press and proceed to cry when the press do what the royals want them to do.
It's ridiculous to point out the relations who were put in homes in the 1940s. Is it wrong and horrible? Absolutely. But it was more than normal to do this in the 40s and beyond. Very rarely would people keep a child with any sort of obvious defect. It was like this for decades and if you go a few hundred years back the things they did were even worse. Yes you can look at history with what we know today but you need to have an understanding of what was normal, wrong or right it's what was common and socially normal.
The amount of hate that women gets is nauseating. Like I don’t care about her really but even I’ve had enough of the non stop vitriol. I actually had a British woman tell me that the British aren’t racists because many different races like there and they all showed up for the queens funeral, that the British faught against slavery and “many British men died” and (one of my favorites), that no one even knew Meghan markle was biracial until she accuse😮the press of being racists and she had identified as Caucasian her whole life until she met prince harry. Like what kind of crazy is in the water there?
What is crazy about that. Since you « don’t care about her really » is it not plausible that there are things about her ways of acting before during and after being a royal that upset people, not because she is bi-racial and you are innocently unaware? If you research a bit maybe you will understand
@@katialavalle5696 I don’t want to not do I care enough. I’m not going to sit here and have someone tell me that the British fight against slavery when your king literally just apologized for Britain’s involvement in slavery. Not to mention COLONIALISM. It’s just sad and it says more about you all then it does her. If you don’t like her fine. But why do you all get yourselves so fucking worked up over it. At the end of the day she wins cause you all are still reacting to her and giving her attention. Whether it’s negative or not.
And again you completelly overlooked all Meghan’s and Diana’s scandals as well! If you are going to cover royal gossip than cover it right! This video clearly has a bias!
Thats because theirs don't compare to the rotten institution that trapped them. Diana only had affairs because her pathetic husband emotionally abused her. She clung onto men who showed love and affection, something Charles never really cared to do. Please don't white wash the problems of the firm, it's rotten to the core.
This video makes a lot of good points. The one weak spot is claiming there was substantial royal supporting for the Nazis during World War II. There was one disgruntled member who supported them cause they promised he would return to power if they won the war.
Charles can’t even put toothpaste on his own damn toothbrush. And one of his slaves, I mean servants has to wash his knickers by hand. Hopefully he does a good job of wiping and not forcing the poor guy to scrub any skid marks
Again, The Take comments on historical and current events without doing proper research. There are so many obvious inaccuracies im this video and it is so painfully obvious that you are paid by Netflix to promote their content. Do better, please.
Wait so Queen Elizabeth was criticized for not apologizing for colonialism but when Prince Charles did apologize, the apology wasn’t good enough? Make up your damn mind.

Well, have not sympathie with Harry and Meg- as also meantioned, Harry had some rasistic attitudes and Meg thinks she can come over to another land, and everyone has to lay out the red carpet for Meg while she is behaving "bad". Then she calls the rasissm card as it is so simple. o conformation, only benefits for no work- so typicak American. She thinks she is a star, and is crying cause ppl dont like her attitude. No one acutally cares for her. When it come to the disabled children: it is also a society problem as ppl do not accept disabled ppl. Eventhough we are in 22, you still hear "well, such children are a dont in today live" or "disabled ppl can be abort in a later periode of pregnancy- did you also miss that point?"- how can you expect that royals, who have to be perfect, can have disabled children? Society wont accept that, so everyone should think what kind of ppl they are before they judge other ppl, esp. ppl who are in public every day. When it comes to a good relationship to the press: whats wrong about it? Politicians are the same and thats more worse! Well if Tommy Lasher the royal fixer was still around he would have found a way to keep many of those scandals out of sight or from happening. He was mean but good at his job at least on the crown Looks it’s up to the British to keep or abolish the monarchy. That is my opinion. Notice how every time The Take needs to talk about Prince William, they mention the alleged affair that was already denied by both parties. Btw, any bad press megan gets should be attributed to her blood relatives who can't seem to stop themselves from selling her out.

Nothing original. Republics are almost as old as monarchies. And all those who call for the overthrow of the monarchy should be reminded that the form of government in itself does not guarantee either democracy, freedom or prosperity. Cuba is a republic, North Korea is a republic, Belarus is a republic, Venezuela is a republic. That's it, as a reminder.
I have ambiguous feelings about the monarchy, but on the plus side; they employ thousands, bring in God knows how much in tourism, and then there's just the 1000-year-long tradition and continuity of the monarchy, which has made Britain unique. Just my opinion.
they have "laws" that means they don't have to hire brown black or gay people. the money they receive from the public is MUCH more than they raise in tourism (and without them, people would still visit the palace, london tower, etc so they're irrelevant) and an old tradition is not a valid excuse for a family to more wealthy than they could ever spend and some people can't heat their homes or feed their kids. fuck the royal, abolish the monarchy.

The world: How scandalous the British Monarchy is😱
Spaniards: You call that a scandal?...
If we could get deeper into the greater Monarchies of the world...
Huh, that’s a really excellent point!

It seems like the men get away with actual crimes while the woman are damned for just wanting happiness (this excludes the late Queen, RIP- she did some awful stuff too)
They hate Wallis more for being a divorcée than they do for being a Nazi, it’s so weird. Says a lot about them.

The hypocrisy of them by ascertaining money from a company that sells royal titles in the same video where they critique the Royals is incredible. SMH 🙄
Does it actually help in planting trees or nah?
@@user-uj2ku5fk7c Well, either the affairs begin before the marriage or afterwards.

They should just turn Buckingham Palace into a museum. That's where these old relics of a bygone era belong.
Owned by the National Trust or English Heritage hopefully. Or it could be for the use of a President and their secretariat as well.
Let's be honest: all monarchys have always had dark sides.
Yep
Astute.

Oh yeah, it was a spectacularly missed opportunity. The lack of foresight, for these oh so rich people, is astonishing.
I just have the feeling that in both cases (Diana and Megan) the royal family was under the illusion that they would gain without having to give. You cannot call for a wind of change and then disgruntly cling to the things it's blowing away.
They barely tried - couldn’t even defend her in papers anc ended up crushing them.
Hey, Diana was nobility though.

I have ambiguous feelings about the monarchy, but on the plus side; they employ thousands, bring in God knows how much in tourism, and then there's just the 1000-year-long tradition and continuity of the monarchy, which has made Britain unique. Just my opinion.
I think their biggest contribution has been providing a lot of entertainment in the form of gossip and television 😁
(Sorry - I meant 'ambivalent' instead of 'ambiguous'.)
@@ludmilamaiolini6811 Yes, there's that. ;)
they have "laws" that means they don't have to hire brown black or gay people. the money they receive from the public is MUCH more than they raise in tourism (and without them, people would still visit the palace, london tower, etc so they're irrelevant) and an old tradition is not a valid excuse for a family to more wealthy than they could ever spend and some people can't heat their homes or feed their kids. fuck the royal, abolish the monarchy.
established titles is a scam!!
I like the essay.... Until the end, abolish monarch
I love your channel but sorry, I feel you have a bit of a blind spot with Meghan. There is a lot of evidence of lies or shady stuff from her side (or her +Harry) . Just a comment, because all what you say about the RF is true but , at the same time, I think these other guys are not good either and its ok to point that out.
Hey! We don't need a summary of everything that happens on 'The Crown'. You know 'The Crown' is *fiction* based in reality, right? Because it seems you just repeat whatever 'The Crown' says it happened.
Why let reality get in the way of a good narrative that fits their worldview? If they stop doing that, they’ll lose all their stock footage. Then they might even have to stop conflating real people with fictional characters.
@@Echo-mg5em They should put up an announcement in the beginning of the show, stating that the show is a fiction. Netflix refuses it, arguing that people obviously know it's fiction. Not according to most of the comments here and the video of this channel.
@@telinhajp The key events are all real. The horrible things seen are real. Fuck the crown
the creators of the crown had to say that because the royals were getting upset all their secrets were coming out. we don't know if it was fictional or not.
I'm sorry Megan Markle is so obnoxious. Absolutely grating
White Hall papers
I love this channel, but it's shameless how they wash Megan's image. All of us who follow the royal family know that she is a manipulative spider.
This channel is pure sugary. Ugh! 😩
What you think you know
@@observer5864 what you think you know
LMAO not you thinking you have a clue about what goes on with the royals. you read the daily mail a lot and think you're an insider. pathetic.
How are they manipulative? Just asking.
This channel's arguments are increasingly becoming obnoxiously woke and self contradictory at times. Sad. The channel was better when it stuck to movies and tv shows.
Go away Karen!! This channel has always been "woke". I'm surprised you only now have noticed this. It's a progressive, feminist channel and should remain that way.
*This channel couldn't be more hypocrite.* You keep criticizing the Royals, but accept money from the sponsors that sells royal titles. SMH! 😡
You do realize they aren't royal titles right? They literally mean nothing more than Mr or Mrs as far as the perks you get with the titles. It's just a cute gift to get someone that has an affinity for Scotland or likes quirky gifts. I don't see the hypocrisy of it all.
@@mtblaho I mean they criticize the monarchy whilst promoting being a royal.
@@telinhajp You can criticize a poor monarchy while promoting great royalty. Whatever happened to nuance?
@@GenerationNextNextNext 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So what...king Edward didn't leave with a golden parachute like Harry. He spent the rest of his life cashing in favors to survive. Hitler and Stallion? Why not he held no sway anymore
Lizzie in the box
🤣🤣😂😂
The videos on this account are getting worse everyone a new one is uploaded. The stupid take on the Notebook was awful (apparently the persons running those accounts had never been young, in love and made all the mistakes we make when we are young and in love) but this is the nail on the coffin for me.
Bye the take. See you never.
The Notebook was a great review to me. Your comment is unnecessarily rude for no reason.
Go away!!
Not an airport
This monarchy is a constant reminder of brutal suppression and deep trauma under colonial rule. They have deliberately tried to sweep their dark past under the rug and have never apologized. Its fitting that it implodes under its own filth.
“King Charles”
Those words don’t sound right.
Established Titles is a Scam. Coffeezilla proved it. Plz stop promoting it.
i wish i was older than just a little kid when the princess diana stuff happened. i was barely paying attention and knew nothing. but now it just feels so utterly heartbreaking knowing what happened and how she was treated for trying to use her platform to make the world a better place. whether it was a conspiracy or just the insane paparazzi that took her life, it really was a tragedy beyond measure. it’s so hopeful to see people finally getting angry enough to speak out and frustrated enough to call for an end to this family’s lavishness off the backs of the poor and working class.
I was a little kid, too, but my family deeply talked about it around our table. My family members cried. And I come from a largely African American family, never lived or never have been to the UK.
