    I saw a large bumblebee digging in the yard today. I love bumblebees so this was pretty cool. As far as I know it was just one but I'll keep an eye out to see if he invited any of his friends. A few years back we found a gigantic bumblebee in the house, they must like us. :)

      I'm watching this because we've just discovered a bumblebee nest under the concrete in our outhouse! They access it where the concrete meets a softer surface and a pre existing hole. Read they shouldn't damage anything and be out in a few months?

      @@nicolabreward8434 I am no expert on them but they do tend to move to a new nest each year, I think its just where ever the queen goes but I think sometimes they have new queens develop and some of the colony go and follow that one too.

    Just be careful as a bumblebee sting is really painful! I was mowing and they came after me and I got stung on my ankles. I since left a big patch of grass grow for them.

    Found some in a small wooden greenhouse structure we are putting up.lil I imagine they want first dibs on whatever I grow there. One even took a truck ride. When I found d it I brought him back to their nest. Amazing little creatures. They were very calm as I went about doing some carpentry work.

    I have a shrub in my garden and when in flower (the flowers are blue and lots of them form a cone shape) they are suddenly Completely covered in bumblebees, when the flowers are finished the bumblebees just disappear, I wondered where they went and now I know. I have lived here for 30 years and they come every year.

      Sounds like the shrub may be a buddleia I think its popular one for bees and butterflies.

      Same here! I was mowing my yard when one flew in my hair and the attack began! Worst pain ever! I was stung several times and it hurt for weeks! I didn't know what I disturbed to make them attack me, so when I mowed again I was being careful. Next thing I know I see them coming out of the ground where I just mowed. Thankfully, I was able to outrun them this time! I'm horrified to mow now and scared of everything that flies around me! I don't want to kill the bees but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to mow now! This happened almost 2 months ago and one of the stings still has venom in it and hasn't healed. Sucks!

    once upon a time... me and my buddy were in a field behind my house and I heard the buzzing sound... for some reason i thought it was more of a "hissing" sound and that there was leaking gas or something near us... i found where the sound was and started digging.... fucking swarm of bumblebees in the face. no idea how we managed it but we ran away without getting stung.

    • @DartsReviewChannel

      I think they only attack if they feel the hive is in danger but I am no expert but generally bumble bees and bees on the whole are not as vicious as wasps.

    We were making a short film out in the woods, one night, and after releasing some smoke (it was a creepy short film) we realised there was around 3 or 4 underground nests all around us. We got worried because of the smoke, thinking it might get into the nests and anger the bees, but they were really quiet. Is this normal? I ask because we're terrified we harmed the bees with the smoke (that sort of floated on the ground). If it was harming them, they would have got mad, right?

    • @DartsReviewChannel
      @DartsReviewChannel  8 років тому +1

      I am no Bee expert but I think if it was just floating over the ground it probably would not have harmed them, I think Bee Keepers use smoke to keep them under control and calm when checking the hives etc

    • @kerrysuz
      @kerrysuz 8 років тому +2

      Bees (at least honey bees) are known to be calmed by smoke. If you ever watch a beekeeper working a hive, you will see that they use a smoker before and after opening the hive. So it makes total sense that the bees that were near you were calmed that night.

      Thanks, guys.

    • @jamesfunk7614
      @jamesfunk7614 6 років тому

      Not necessarily. I don't know about the bees you encountered. But, smoke affects honey bees in two ways: 1) Smoke interferes with their chemical communication system. So, if a honey bee is alarmed, the smoke prevents her sisters from receiving the signal. 2) They are afraid the fire could spread to their hive. So, in case they have to abandon it ("bug out"), they fill their stomachs so they have food to help start a new home. This calms them, and also makes it harder for them to sting.

      I'm sorry for your loss.
      My Dad also died in 2015. Weeds took over his garden after he became sick. Although I would have liked to have restored the yard, we had to sell his house. I had to dig up where his gardens had been.
      His food crops would change, but he always had tomatoes. In a spot too shady for grass, he had a ground cover that produced flowers that bumble bees liked. He liked the "bumbly bees." I didn't know it at the time, but bumble bees can pollinate tomatoes.

    We have bees trying to build a colony in one of my mother flower pots, which is on the 8th floor of an apartment building, inside. When we noticed them the first time, one bee flew away with a big piece of dirt in its legs. We wonder what to do, as we can't keep the pot in this case,.

    • @DartsReviewChannel
      @DartsReviewChannel  4 роки тому

      Wow just shows how desperate they must be and tenacious too! Not really sure what your best option is, may not be a good idea to have them nesting inside so you may need to seek some expert advice. Would be better if they could be moved to a more suitable place for them though, good luck! :)
